The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(sARs-CovV-2)infection is associated with a hyperinflammatory state and lymphocytopenia,a hallmark that appears as both signature and prognosis of disease severity *** cytokine storm and a sustained inflammatory state are commonly associated with immune cell depletion,it is still unclear whether direct sARs-Cov-2 infection of immune cells could also play a role in this scenario by harboring viral *** found that monocytes,as well as both B and T lymphocytes,were susceptible to sARs-Cov-2 infection in vitro,accumulating double-stranded RNA consistent with viral RNA replication and ultimately leading to expressive T cell *** addition,flow cytometry and immunofluorescence analysis revealed that sARs-Cov-2 was frequently detected in monocytes and B lymphocytes from coronavirus disease 2019(CoVID-19)*** rates of sARs-Cov-2-infected monocytes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from CoVID-19 patients increased over time from symptom onset,with sARs-CoV-2-positive monocytes,B cells,and CD4+T lymphocytes also detected in postmortem lung *** results indicated that sARs-CoV-2 infection of blood-circulating leukocytes in covID-19 patients might have important implications for disease pathogenesis and progression,immune dysfunction,and virus spread within the host.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the progress of the areolate mildew of cotton under different soil cover and spacing conditions. The experiment was carried out using randomized blocks and a 2 × 3 factorial design, with two spacings (0.45 m and 0.90 m) and three soil covers (no cover, Pennisetum glaucum and Crotalaria spectabilis) with four replications. The plants were inoculated with R. areola, sixty DAs. A total of 14 evaluations of disease severity were performed. At the lower, middle and upper thirds of plants, a diagram scale with nine levels of severity was used and the resulting data were converted into the AUDPC. Gompertz, logistic, and monomolecular mathematical models were tested in the disease severity curves for each third. Agronomics characteristics were evaluated as well. significant differences of AUDPC were found for the cotton plants thirds, and the middle third was the highest AUDPC. significant difference for the lower and upper thirds, whose AUDPC were highest on 0.90 m spacing, was observed too. The disease progress curves of the thirds did not fit the tested models. significant results to the both covers situations, where the treatments grown on crotalária cover and without cover had highest AUDPC, were evidenced. The treatments with C. spectabilis cover were taller than other treatments. significant data were observed for the cover crops used and in the treatments grown at 0.90 m spacing, to residual cover and crop yield, respectively.

Casearia sylvestris Improved Cutaneous Burn Repair in Diabetic Rats

Objectives： The burn repair associated with diabetes complications showed considerable changes in the healing process and the development of alternative therapies to favor the repair is important. This study investigated the efficacy of the Casearia sylvestris in the burn repair in diabetic and non-diabetic rats. Methods： The animals were divided into four groups （n = 20）：（C） non-diabetics treated with carbopol gel; （G） non-diabetic treated with C. sylvestris extract in carbopol gel; （DM-C） diabetics treated with carbopol gel; （DM-G） diabetics treated with C. sylvestris extract in carbopol gel. Burn was induced using a metal plate （2 cm diameter/120 °C/20 sec）. samples were collected on the 3rd, 7th, 14th and 21st days after the injury for histomorphometric analysis （inflammatory infiltrate, fibroblasts, blood vessels and collagen）, MPO （Myeloperoxidase） and NAG （N-Acetilglicosaminidase） dosage, hydroxyproline, glycosaminoglycans, TGF-β1, VEGF, collagen I and III. Key findings： C. sylvestris decreased the inflammatory process during the experimental period in diabetic and non-diabetic animals which has been demonstrated by MPO, NAG quantification, and TGF-β1 expression. C. sylvestris also increased blood vessels and decreased VEGF expression during the studied period in non-diabetic animals. Fibroplasia and collagenase were increased in all experimental periods in the DM-G group by means of de hydroxyproline quantification, collagen I, collagen III and glycosaminoglycans. Conclusions： C. sylvestris application can modulate favorably the time of inflammation and collagenous process in the repair of burn injuries in diabetic rats.

During the industrial fermentation process in the production of fuel ethanol, yeasts are subject to several stressing conditions. The survival and the permanence of strains introduced in the process correlate with the capability of these yeasts in resisting to physical and chemical stresses, as well as their recovering ability to compete with contaminating micro-organisms commonly present in this industrial process. We aim at the selection of saccharomyces cere visiae strains having this capability and ability. In this sense, cultivations of strains with industrial interest were irradiated with gammas ray at a wide dose interval. Growing curves for the strains were analyzed by means of their relative growth, a new concept here introduced, which allows a better understanding of the growing and recovering processes following radiative stress. It was found that gamma radiation could be used as an alternative method to quantify growing capabilities of s. cerevisiae strains under stressing conditions. It was also shown that this radiological method could be utilized as an additional procedure to select best robust industrial strains. This radiological method simplifies traditional analysis of strain viability, by avoiding the great number of necessary and consecutive fermentation assays.

Association of Vitamin D Levels with the Metabolic Profile and sexual Maturation stage of Adolescents

The deficiency of Vitamin D (VD) is widely prevalent worldwide in adults, but many studies show that this deficiency also affects adolescents and may be considered a global public health problem. The VD levels are particularly significant in adolescents since it influences several aspects of growth, development, and puberty. During this phase of life, both girls and boys develop reproductive aspects, and secondary sexual characteristics and the adequate nutritional status appear to be the prerequisite for normal pubertal development. Due to the importance of VD in adolescents, the objective of this study was to investigate the association of the levels of this vitamin with glycemic, lipid, and anthropometric profile and sexual maturation stages of adolescents. Anthropometric (weight and height) and biochemical (fasting glycemia, total cholesterol, HDL-c, LDL-c, and triglycerides) data and VD levels were collected in 67 adolescents. 66% of the adolescents showed VD sufficiency, 28% insufficiency, and 6% showed the deficiency. There was a significant difference in VD levels between the stages of sexual maturation for boys and girls. Overweight patients had lower serum VD levels. The correlation analysis indicated a positive correlation between VD and fasting glycemia and HDL-c, but with no significant difference. A negative correlation was observed between VD and cholesterol, LDL-c and triglycerides, but also with no significant difference. Once VD is crucial for bone health, and as it seems it is necessary to the homeostasis of glycemia, lipids, and body weight, we suggest that more studies should be conducted to confirm the precise role of this vitamin in the promotion and maintenance of health in this population.

Electromagnetic stimulation Combined with Aloe vera Increases Collagen Reorganization in Burn Repair

Objectives： Burns are shown as a clinical problem for their severity and multiple complications due to the time required to heal. Therapies that improve their healing are of great importance, especially for being minimally invasive, of low cost and best performance, all related to the speed and quality of healing. This study investigated the effects of the magnetic electro stimulator Haihuá CD9 isolated or in association with Aloe vera in rats skin burns. Methods： Experimental groups （n = 30/group） were：（C） Carbopol gel; （F） A. vera/Carbopol gel; （H） Haihuá＋Carbopol gel; （H＋F） Haihuá＋A. vera/Carbopol gel. samples were collected on the 7th, 14th, and 21st experimental days for structural and morphometric analysis, hydroxyproline and glycosaminoglycans quantification, zymography for MMP-2 and MMP-9 and Western Blotting for TGF-β1, VEGF, Collagen I and III. Key findings： The expression of TGF-β1 in H＋F was increased on the 7th day and of MMP-9 on the 7th and 14th days. The expression of VEGF increased in the first experimental periods and decreased in the last for the treated groups. There was an increase in the fibroblasts and birefringent collagen fibers in groups treated with Haihuá isolated or in association with A. vera in all periods. The quantification of collagen I increased, while collagen III decreased in H＋F. The higher amount of GAGs and MMP-2 active isoform was detected in H and H＋F during all periods. Conclusions： Considering the results of the present study, electromagnetic stimulation in association with the A. vera extract promoted an increase in the number of fibroblasts, GAGs content, MMP-2 activity, the deposition and organization of collagen fibers, favoring the repair of injuries to second degree burns, and may also present therapeutic potential in this injury type.

Water Hyacinth Control by Glyphosate Herbicide and Its Impact on Water Quality

The aim of this study was to evaluate the herbicide glyphosate under aquatic environment conditions, in a controlled and closed experimental field, in the management of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) in reservoirs. Twenty reservoirs (polyethylene water tanks) with storage capacity of 1000 liters were used, without water flow and without evapotranspired water replacement (worst case), being 04 for each treatment. The adult plants were placed in the water tanks to provide 90% surface occupation of the reservoir. Five treatments with four repetitions were considered, being: 1) Reservoir colonized by water hyacinth without control;2) Reservoir colonized by water hyacinth, controlled by glyphosate;3) Reservoir colonized by water hyacinth, controlled by freezing;4) Reservoir without water hyacinth and glyphosate application and 5) Reservoir without water hyacinth and no glyphosate application. The glyphosate herbicide was used at the highest recommended dose, 7.0 L·ha-1 or 3360 g of acid equivalent per ha, applied using carbon dioxide precision equipment (backpack sprayer), providing a flow rate of 200 L·ha-1. The water samples were collected at the time of application, 6, 12, 18 and 24 hours after application and also at 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 days after application, in the morning, always at the same time, also between 8 and 9 h. The method used for determination of residues was by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry with a mass selective detector. Low concentrations of glyphosate and aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) were found in both reservoirs that received application of the product. The half-life of glyphosate in water to the reservoirs with water hyacinth was 11 days and in the reservoirs without water hyacinth was 21 days. The results show a low potential of environmental impact of glyphosate use in the control of water hyacinth in reservoirs.
