Focal dermal hypoplasia(FDH) is a rare disorder of the mesodermal and ectodermal tissues. Here we present an eight-year-old female known to have FDH who presents with poor weight gain and dysphagia. She was diagnosed with multiple esophageal papillomas and eosinophilic esophagitis. She was successfully treated with argon plasma coagulation and ingested fluticasone propionate, which has not been described previously in a child.

White organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs)are promising candidates for future solid-state lighting applications and backplane illumination in large-area *** very specific feature of OLEDs,which is currently gaining momentum,is that they can enable tunable white light *** feature is conventionally realized either through the vertical stacking of independent OLEDs emitting different colors or in lateral arrangement of *** vertical design is optically difficult to optimize and often results in efficiency compromises between the *** contrast,the lateral concept introduces severe area losses to dark regions between the subunits,which requires a significantly larger overall device area to achieve equal *** we demonstrate a color-tunable,two-color OLED device realized by side-by-side alignment of yellow and blue p-i-n OLEDs structured down to 20μm by a simple and up-scalable orthogonal photolithography *** layout eliminates the problems of conventional lateral approaches by utilizing all area for light *** corresponding emission of the photo-patterned two-unit OLED can be tuned over a wide range from yellow to white to blue *** independent control of the different units allows the desired overall spectrum to be set at any given brightness *** as a white light source,the microstructured OLED reaches a luminous efficacy of 13 lm W^(−1) at 1000 cd m^(−2) without an additional light outcoupling enhancement and reaches a color rendering index of 68 when operated near the color point ***,we demonstrate an improved device lifetime by means of size variation of the subunits.

A functioning immune system is crucial for protection against disease and illness,yet increasing evidence suggests that species living in urban areas could be suffering from immune suppression,due to the presence of artificial light at night(ALAN).This study examined the effects of ecologically relevant levels of ALAN on three key measures of immune function(haemocyte concentration,lytic activity,and phenoloxidase activity)using a model invertebrate species,the Australian black field cricket,Teleogryllus *** reared crickets under an ecologically relevant daily light‐cycle consisting of 12 hr bright daylight(2600 lx)followed by either 12 h darkness(0 lx)or dim environmentally relevant ALAN(1,10,100 lx),and then assessed immune function at multiple time points throughout adult life using haemolymph *** found that the presence of ALAN had a clear negative effect on haemocytes,while the effects on lytic activity and phenoloxidase activity were more complex or largely unaffected by ***,the effects of lifelong exposure to ALAN of 1 lx were comparable to those of 10 and 100 *** data suggest that the effects of ALAN could be large and widespread,and such reductions in the core immune response of individuals will likely have greater consequences for fitness and survival under more malign conditions,such as those of the natural environment.

AIm： To examine the differences in the responses of normal and cirrhotic livers to partial hepatectomy in relation to the factors influencing liver regeneration.mETHODS： Cirrhosis was induced in rats by administration of thioacetarnide. Untreated rats were used as controls. The control rats as well as the cirrhotic rats were subjected to 70% partial hepatectorny. At different time points after hepatectorny, the livers were collected and the levels of cytokines, growth factors and cell cycle proteins were analyzed.RESULTS： After hepatectomy, the cirrhotic remnant expressed significantly lower levels of cyclin D1, its kinase partner, cdk4, and cyclin E as compared to the controls up to 72 h post hepatectomy. Significantly lower levels of cyclin A and cdk2 were also observed while the cdk inhibitor, p27 was significantly higher. In addition, the cirrhotic group had lower IL-6 levels than the control group at all time points up to 72 h following resection.CONCLUSION： The data from our study shows that impaired liver regeneration in cirrhotic remnants is associated with low expression of cyclins and cdks. This might be the consequence of the low IL-6 levels in cirrhotic liver remnant which would in turn influence the actions of transcription factors that regulate genes involved in cell proliferation and metabolic homeostasis during the regeneration process.

AIm: To determine the expression of micro RNA-210(mi R-210) in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and to examine its role using HCC ***: The expression of mi R-210 was determined in 21 pairs of HCC samples and the corresponding surrounding non-tumor tissues. The effects of mi R-210 on proliferation and cell cycle progression were examined using Hep G2 and Hu H7 cells. Overexpression and inhibition of mi R-210 was achieved by transfection of the cells with mi R-210 mimic or inhibitor. Luciferase reporter constructs were used to identify the mi R-210 interacting site on Yes1. Yes1 expression was examined after mi R-210 transfection,as well as in the HCC ***: mi R-210 was significantly up-regulated by 3.4 fold(P mor samples. The over-expression of mi R-210 significantly reduced cell proliferation compared to the mock-treated cells(68.9% ± 7.4% and 53.6% ± 5.0%,P mi R-210 mimic by flow cytometry showed that the cells took a longer time to reach the G2/m phase. The interaction between mi R-210 and the 3'UTR of the Yes1 transcript was confirmed using a luciferase reporter assay. Over-expression of mi R-210 reduced the expression of Yes1 protein in both Hu H7 and Hep G2 cells. Tumors with a greater than fourfold increase in the expression of mi R-210 showed consistently lower expressions of Yes1 in the *** nocodazole-treated cells with a significant G2/m cell population,Yes1 protein was significantly reduced and pre-inhibition of mi R-210 in Hu H7 cells was able to prevent the reduction of Yes1 protein expression. Knock-down of Yes1 by si RNA also led to reduced cell proliferation(70.8% ± 7.5%,P mi R-210 inhibits cell proliferation. Yes1 is a target of mi R-210 and affects cell proliferation in HCC.

Reliable estimation of stature from skeletal remains will continue to play an important role in assessing a variety of forensic anthropological and archaeological *** the present study,we studied and collated data on the morphometry of the tibia as well as analyzing its segment that shows significant correlation with its maximum length and consequently formulating linear regression equations for estimating maximum tibia length(mTL)which is specific for the Nigeria population.A total number of 68 intact adult human tibia bones were used(35 right and 33 left).Thirteen anthropometric parameters were measured including the *** mean differences between right and left bones of all the measured parameter were not statistically significant except for the mean shaft *** correlation coefficient between mTL and the bicondylar tibial width(BTW),anterior‑posterior intercondylar diameter(APID),anterior‑posterior diameter of medial condyle(APDmC),midshaft transverse diameter(mSTD),and distal articular surface length(DASL)were seen to be significant(Pmation of mTL from these parameters for the right tibia were also significant(Pmate the maximum length of the right tibia from the BTW,APID,APDmC,mSTD,and DASL with relative *** study may be useful for forensic investigations for the identification of the remains of unknown bodies in a Nigerian population.
