AIM:To evaluate the long-term outcome of standard5-FU based adjuvant or neoadjuvant radiochemotherapyand to identify the predictive factors,especially anemiabefore and after radiotherapy as well as hemoglobinincrease or decrease during ***:Two hundred and eighty-six patientswith Union International Contre Cancer(UICC)stageⅡ and Ⅲ rectal adenocarcinomas,who underwentresection by conventional surgical techniques(lowanterior or abdominoperineal resection),receivedeither postoperative(n=233)or preoperative(n=53)radiochemotherapy from January 1989 until July *** survival(OAS),cancer-specific survival(CSS),disease-free survival(DFS),local-relapse-free(LRS)and distant-relapse-free survival(DRS)were evaluatedusing Kaplan-Meier,Log-rank test and Cox's proportionalhazards as statistical *** analysis wasused to identify prognostic *** follow-uptime was 8 ***:Anemia before radiochemotherapy was anindependent prognostic factor for improved DFS(riskratio 0.76,P=0.04)as well as stage,grading,R status(free radial margins),type of surgery,carcinoembryonicantigen(CEA)levels,and *** univariate analysisrevealed that anemia was associated with impaired LRS (better local control)but with improved *** contrast,hemoglobin decrease during radiotherapy was anindependent risk factor for DFS(risk ratio 1.97,P=0.04).During radiotherapy,only 30.8% of RO-resected patientssuffered from hemoglobin decrease compared to 55.6%if R1/2 resection was performed(P=0.04).The 5-yearOAS,CSS,DFS,LRS and DRS were 47.0%,60.0%,41.4%,67.2%,and 84.3%,*** between preoperative and postoperativeradiochemotherapy were not ***:Anemia before radiochemotherapyand hemoglobin decrease during radiotherapy have nopredictive value for the outcome of rectal ***,grading,R status(free radial margins),type of surgery,CEA levels,and gender have predictive value for theoutcome of rectal cancer.

本文叙述非饱和数字集成电路的一种简易而迅速收敛的优选程序。通过改变轻易可控的结构和工艺参数,即可产生给定功耗下的最小门延迟;这就是说,电路元件(晶体管和肖特基二极管)的参数要与功耗相适应。模拟结果显示,利用此优选程序,双极亚毫微秒电路的功耗能够惊人地减少到很低的值而无明显的速度损失。在可达到的最快开关速度方面,对于高速电路技术的各种基本门进行了比较。

A Preliminary Study in the Effect of <i>Astragali radix</i>, a Qi-Invigorating Herb, on Mitochondria: Insights at Cellular Level and Mouse Tissues Level

Objectives: To explore the effects of Qi-invigorating herbs on mitochondrial function using cultured cells and animal organs. Methods: Using water extracts of Astragali radix, we investigated the effect of “Qi-invigoration” on M-1 renal cells and mouse organs in-vitro including total adenylate production (TAP), reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). We also examined the effect on antioxidant capacity by conducting an analysis of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH). Results: 1) Astragali radix increased mitochondrial TAP generation and decreased ROS levels in both mouse kidney tissues and M-1 renal cells. 2) Astragali radix also significantly increased MMP and GSH levels in M-1 cells, but in the kidney tissue, there was no significant change in MMP levels and a decrease in GSH levels. 3) Astragali radix stimulated TAP levels in the heart, spleen, lung, kidney and skeletal muscle tissue, which was accompanied by the reduction of ROS. 4) For the meridian organs that Astragali radix

AIM: To analyse bone remodeling in regard to the age of scaphoid non-unions(SNU) with ***: Thirty-six patients with symptomatic SNU underwent surgery with resection of the pseudarthrosis. The resected material was evaluated histologically after staining with hematoxylin-eosin(HE), tartrate resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP), CD 68, osteocalcin(OC) and osteopontin(OP). Histological examination was performed in a blinded ***: The number of multinuclear osteoclasts in the TRAP-staining correlated with the age of the SNU and was significantly higher in younger SNU(P = 0.034; r = 0.75). A higher number of OP-immunoreactive osteoblasts significantly correlated with a higher number of OC-immunoreactive osteoblasts(P = 0.001; r = 0.55). Furthermore, a greater number of OP-immunoreactive osteoblasts correlated significantly with a higher number of OP-immunoreactive multinuclear osteoclasts(P = 0.008; r = 0.43). SNU older than 6 mo showed a signifi-cant decrease of the number of fibroblasts(P = 0.04). Smoking and the age of the patients had no influence on bone remodeling in ***: Multinuclear osteoclasts showed a significant decrease in relation to the age of SNU. However, most of the immunhistochemical findings of bone remodeling do not correlate with the age of the SNU. This indicates a permanent imbalance of bone formation and resorption as indicated by a concurrent increase in both osteoblast and osteoclast numbers. A clear histological differentiation into phases of bone remodeling in SNU is not possible.

目的:了解高水平游泳运动员在国际赛事中的损伤与疾病发生特点。方法:对第14届世界游泳锦标赛中前往医疗站就诊的运动员的损伤和疾病情况进行登记。医疗站医生收集运动员的医疗报告,每天上报给组委会医疗保障部,比赛结束后统一分析处理。按照国际奥委会损伤疾病监控系统(IOC injury and illness surveillance system)对运动员的损伤和疾病情况进行归类、统计分析,与以往数据比较。结果:整个赛期2165名注册运动员中,172名运动员就诊,运动损伤53例(24‰),女性运动员损伤发生率(n=21,18‰)低于男性(n=32,32‰)。游泳项目的损伤病例数最多(n=20),公开水域项目的损伤发生率最高(50‰)。运动损伤好发部位为头部躯干(35.8%)、下肢(35.8%)。最常见的损伤类型为皮肤擦伤,占全部就诊运动损伤病例的34%。整个赛期共发生疾病99例(46‰),呼吸道感染高发(n=40,40.4%),因牙齿问题到定点医院就诊的运动员人数最多(n=10,8例牙齿疾病,2例外伤导致牙齿断裂)。结果显示:与历届游泳锦标赛相比,本次比赛中运动员损伤发生率大为下降,呼吸系统感染是运动员的最常见疾病。预防牙病和牙齿健康应该得到重视。

The Effect of TCM Herbs on Mitochondrial Functions: The Linkage between Qi and Mitochondria

The linkage between Qi and mitochondria was investigated by exploring the effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Qi-invigorating herbs on mitochondrial function at the biochemical and molecular levels. Three Chinese herbs (Astragali radix, Herba cistanche, Panax ginseng) were used to treat cultured mouse kidney cells and the generation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) was measured. The Qi-invigorating herb, Astragali radix, was selected for further study using additional biological and molecular parameters, including ATP, reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), mtDNA copies, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), cell growth, cell viability and transcriptomes. We also chose two concentrations of Astragali radix to study the hormetic effect. The results indicated that: 1) Qi-invigorating herbs have significant effects on the function of mitochondria, with ATP production and the antioxidant capacity being significantly enhanced, and ROS levels being reduced, allowing for a more optimal oxidation environment. The effect of the herbs followed a hormetic curve with a stimulating effect at lower doses but an inhibiting effect at high doses;2) The growth of the cells was not affected
