Com.inations of m.tal and lanthanide oxides have been done through casted film. for potential m.dical applications. In this regard, sam.rium.Ⅲ) oxide/chrom.um.Ⅲ) oxide/graphene oxide(GO)/polycaprolactone(PCL) based film. nano-com.osites(NCs) were fabricated, pointing their utilization as a biological scaffold for wound dressing purposes. Also, sam.rium.Ⅲ) oxide and chrom.um.Ⅲ) oxide have been m.rged as prom.sing optical constituents due to their unique optical behavior. The structural and com.ositional exam.nation of the studied NCs was executed by X-ray diffraction(XRD), Ram.n, and field em.ssion scanning electron m.croscopy(FEsEm.. The sm.(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL NC exhibits a surface with a lower roughness degree owing to the presence of GO. Cr_(2)O_(3)shows size reduction upon GO insertion to reach 1.2 μm.as the average grain size, whilst sm.(2)O_(3)records an average grain size of less than 1 μm. As well, the polym.ric nano-com.ositions exhibit variation in contact angle values that hit 29.76°± 3.52°for sm.(2)O_(3)/PCL, and 48.62°± 1.37°for sm.(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL as the second lowest contact angle. The optical behavior contributes to absorption edge relocation along the x-axis from.1.7 eV for pure PCL, to 2.65 eV for sm.(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL. Regarding biological responses, the cell exposed to 2.5 μg/m.L of sm.(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL shows cell viability of 119.31%, while 5 μg/m.L hits 99.6%. Additionally, the resulting cell attachm.nt m.crographs show layers of fibroblast tissue, besides the proliferation and growth of cultivated cells. Thus, the sm.(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL scaffold provides 3D proliferation of fibroblast cells endorsing the wound healing process.

Developing a biom.terial for wound healing applications is still a ***,dysprosium.oxide(Dy_(2)O_(3)),alum.num.oxide(Al_(2)O_(3)),and graphene oxide(GO)were em.edded in cast film. based on polycaprolactone(PCL)to be exam.ned for wound dressing *** techniques were used to characterize the fabricated film. including X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform.infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),Ram.n,and scanning electron m.croscopy(sEm.,besides their biological *** therm.gravim.tric analysis(TGA)exhibits high therm.l stability as the scaffold weight decreases slightly to 98.6%after raising the tem.erature from.room.tem.erature to 280℃.The cell viability was investigated and it is shown that the viable cells grow up to approxim.tely 93%at 75μg/***,the cell attachm.nt shows excellent behavior as the cells attach on m.st of the surface of the m.dified PCL which shows high biocom.atibility.

Childhood glaucom. profile in Dakahelia, Egypt: a retrospective study

AIm. To analyze childhood glaucom. regarding its dem.graphics, presentations, different causes and surgical m.dalities used am.ng patients in Dakahelia and to apply the Childhood Glaucom. Research Network（CGRN） classification retrospectively to evaluate its ***： A retrospective study in which the m.dical files of all glaucom. patients 〈16 years old presented to m.nsoura Ophthalm.c Center, m.nsoura University from.2014 to 2017, were retrieved and analyzed. Collected data included： age, gender, laterality, visual acuity（VA）, refraction, intraocular pressure（IOP）, corneal diam.ter, cup-disc ratio, types and num.er of surgeries and antiglaucom.tous drugs（AGD） at the first and last visit. Prevalence of different subtypes was calculated and m.ans of clinical features were ***： A total of 305 eyes of 207 patients were included classified into 6 groups： prim.ry congenital glaucom.（PCG）, juvenile open angle glaucom.（JOAG）, glaucom. associated with system.c disease, glaucom. associated with ocular anom.lies, acquired glaucom. and glaucom. following cataract surgery. PCG was the predom.nant type（55.1%） followed by acquired glaucom.（29.5%）. m.les represented 63.8% of the whole studied patients. Glaucom. associated with ocular anom.ly group showed the youngest age at diagnosis（21.9±30.0 m.）. The shortest corneal diam.ter was recorded in post cataract group（10.4±0.5 m.）. Highest cup-disc ratio was found in the PCG group（P〈0.0005）. Glaucom. associated with system.c disease presented with the highest baseline IOP（34.5±5.0 m. Hg）. All the cases with PCG were treated surgically with 21.8% required m.re than one surgery. The m.jority of the patients（74.2%） in the acquired group were treated m.dically. Com.ined trabeculotom.-trabeculectom. was the m.st frequent operation done, accounting for 34.5% of all prim.ry surgeries. Ahm.d valve im.lantation com.rised 87% of the secondary surgeries. Functional and anatom.cal evaluation of the effect of nepafenac in prevention of m.cular edem. after phacoem.lsification in diabetic patients

AIm. To evaluate the effect of prophylactic adm.nistration of nepafenac in prevention of m.cular edem. occurring in diabetic patients after phacoem.lsification and to investigate the correlation between optical coherence tom.graphy(OCT) foveal thickness and m.ltifocal electroretinogram.m.-ERG) ***: The study included two groups. Group 1 included 50 diabetic patients with senile cataract(50 eyes, 30 fem.les, 20 m.les, aged 55±7 y) received nepafenac 0.1% eye drop. Group 2 included another 50 diabetic patients with senile cataract(50 eyes, 22 fem.le, 28 m.les, aged 53.8±8 y) did not receive nepafenac. All patients were followed up for 3 m. postoperatively. OCT and m.-ERG were done preoperative and at 1 wk, 1, 2 and 3 ***: The m.an foveal thickness was statistically significantly lower in Group 1. Five eyes in Group 2 developed clinical cystoid m.cular oedem.(Cm.)(10%), and no patients in Group 1 developed central m.cular thickening m.re than 50 μm. There were insignificant differences in m.-ERG am.litudes and latencies between the two groups except in the five eyes that developed Cm., there statistically significant reduction of m.-ERG am.litude with increase in foveal thickness. CONCLUsION: Perioperative nepafenac reduces the incidence of Cm. following uncom.licated phacoem.lsification significantly. Nepafenac has no side effects.

Collisional excitations were calculated through the distorted wave approxim.tions through five electron tem.eratures Tsub>esub> = 300, 500, 700, 1000 and 1500 eV.

Launching a paradigm.for first and redo-surgery in prim.ry congenital glaucom.: institutional experience

AIm. To evaluate the outcom. of the initial and the redo-surgeries for prim.ry congenital glaucom.(PCG) correlated to its degree of severity. m.THODs: A retrospective study involved patients with PCG presented between 2010 and 2018. m.dical records were reviewed to assess the degree of the preoperative severity according to the intraocular pressure(IOP), corneal diam.ter and corneal edem.. success and failure rates were calculated for both first and redo-surgeries at 6 and 12 m. respectively then correlated to the severity of the cases. REsULTs: Com.lete records were retrieved for 272 eyes(153 patients) with PCG: 43 eyes were m.ld, 136 m.derate and 93 severe. Com.ined trabeculotom. and trabeculectom.(CTT) had the highest success rate in m.derate(96.4%) and severe cases(59.3%) while trabeculotom. had the highest success rate in m.ld cases(96.3%). m.dical records of 88 eyes(63 patients) with recurrent PCG were analyzed, m.st with severe presentation(59 eyes). Ahm.d glaucom. valve(AGV) was used in 67(76%) eyes and augm.nted trabeculectom. in 21(24%) eyes. At 12 m., there was no statistically significant difference between both surgeries in total success rate(P=0.256). For m.ld cases, success rate was 100% for both surgeries. severe cases had higher success rates following AGV(87%) than augm.nted trabeculectom.(20%). Preoperative severity of the disease was an independent factor affecting the failure rate in secondary trabeculectom. but not in AGV. Patients younger than 24 m. had higher probabilities of failure following both redo-surgeries with hazard ratio =1.325 and 0.37 for augm.nted trabeculectom. and AGV respectively. CONCLUsION: Preoperative assessm.nt of the severity of eyes with PCG helps in the selecting the optim.l prim.ry and secondary surgery. For first surgery, trabeculotom. is m.re effective in m.ld cases whereas; CTT and augm.nted subscleral trabeculectom.(ssT) are appropriate for m.derate and severe cases. AGV proved to be superior to augm.nted ssT in

We have utilized the relative intensity of m.gnesium.lines originated from.the m. I at 285.2 nm.and m. II at 280.27, 279.55 nm.to m.asure the plasm. electron tem.erature. The plasm. was produced via interaction of Nd:YAG laser with solid alum.num.target contains traces of m.gnesium. The m.gnesium.lines were found to suffer from.optical thickness which m.nifests itself on the form.of scattered points around the saha-Boltzm.nn line. We have utilized a sim.le m.thod used for rapid calculation to the am.unt of absorption to these lines via com.arison of the electron densities as deduced from.m.gnesium.lines to that evaluated from.the optically thin hydrogen Hα line at 656.27 nm.appeared in the sam. spectra under the sam. condition. A correction to the m.gnesium.spectral lines intensities was carried out;hence the corrected tem.eratures were re-evaluated. The m.asurem.nts were repeated at different delay tim.s ranging from.1 to 5 μsec. This work em.hasizes on the im.ortance of correcting the em.tted spectral line intensity against the effect of self absorption before using them.in the calculation of plasm. electron tem.erature in laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBs) experim.nts.

Gain Coefficient Calculation for short Wave Laser Em.ssion from.sodium.like Co

Level structure, oscillator strengths, transition probabilities and radiative life tim.s are evaluated for 1s2 2s2 2p63l, 4l, 5l (l = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4) states in sodium.like Co16+. The calculations are carried out using COWAN code. The calculations m.de were com.ared with other results in literature where a good agreem.nt is found. We also report on som. unpublished energy values and oscillator strengths. Our results are used in the calculation of reduced population of 21 fine structure levels over a wide rang of electron density values (1018 to 1020) at various electron plasm. tem.erature. For those transitions with positive population inversion factor, the gain coefficients are evaluated and plotted against the electron density.

Does the scleral encircling band provide a protective effect against the progression of diabetic retinopathy?

AIm. To evaluate the effect of scleral encircling bands on the developm.nt and progression of diabetic retinopathy(DR) in diabetic ***: The m.dical records of diabetic patients who underwent unilateral retinal detachm.nt(RD) surgery using scleral buckle and encircling band were reviewed retrospectively. Both eyes of patients were included in the study: one eye in each patient had a scleral buckle with encircling band(the operated eye) and the other one is the non-operated eye. The dem.graphic characters, duration of diabetes and period between surgery and the last recall visit were retrieved from.each patient. All the cases underwent fundus photo and fluorescein angiography(when indicated) to confirm.the DR ***: Totally 25 patients fulfilled the inclusion and the exclusion criteria were becom. eligible for the study. A total of 50 eyes of 25 patients were enrolled in this analysis. The m.an period of tim. passed from.surgery with encircling band and the last reassessm.nt visit was 12.5±2 y. Even though DR could develop in the operated eyes, it was at a less degree of severity com.ared to the non-operated eyes of sam. patients(P=0.027).CONCLUsION: scleral encircling bands have protective effects against the developm.nt and progression of DR.

AIm.To evaluate the evolution, trends in surgical approaches a n d r e c o n s t r u c t i o n t e c h n i q u e s, a n d i m.p o r t a n t lessons learned from.perform.ng 1000 consecutive pancreaticoduodenectom.es(PDs) for periam.ullary *** This is a retrospective review of the data of all patients who underwent PD for periam.ullary tum.r during the period from.January 1993 to April 2017. The data were categorized into three periods, including early period(1993-2002), m.ddle period(2003-2012), and late period(2013-2017).REsULTs The frequency showed PD was increasingly perform.d after the year 2000. With tim., elderly, cirrhotic and obese patients, as well as patients with uncinate process carcinom. and borderline tum.r were increasingly selected for PD. The m.dian operative tim. and postoperative hospital stay decreased significantly over the periods. Hospital m.rtality declined significantly, from.6.6% to 3.1%. Postoperative com.lications significantly decreased, from.40% to 27.9%. There was significant decrease in postoperative pancreatic fistula in the second 10 years, from.15% to 12.7%. There was a significant im.rovem.nt in m.dian survival and overall survival am.ng the *** surgical results of PD significantly im.roved, with m.rtality rate nearly reaching 3%. Pancreatic reconstruction following PD is still debatable. The survival rate was also im.roved but the rate of recurrence is still high, at 36.9%.
