Background:The convergence of smartphone technology and artificial intelligence(AI)has revolutionized the landscape of ophthalmic care,offering unprecedented opportunities for diagnosis,monitoring,and management of ocular ***,there is a lack of systematic studies on discussing the integration of smart-phone and AI in this *** text:This review includes 52 studies,and explores the integration of smartphones and AI in ophthalmology,delineating its collective impact on screening methodologies,disease detection,telemedicine initiatives,and patient *** collective findings from the curated studies indicate promising performance of the smartphone-based AI screening for various ocular diseases which encompass major retinal diseases,glaucoma,cataract,visual impairment in children and ocular surface ***,the utilization of smartphone-based imaging modalities,coupled with AI algorithms,is able to provide timely,efficient and cost-effective screening for ocular *** modality can also facilitate patient self-monitoring,remote patient monitoring and enhancing accessibility to eye care services,particularly in underserved *** involving data pri-vacy,algorithm validation,regulatory frameworks and issues of trust are still need to be ***,evaluation on real-world implementation is imperative as well,and real-world prospective studies are currently ***:Smartphone ocular imaging merged with AI enables earlier,precise diagnoses,personalized treat-ments,and enhanced service accessibility in eye *** is crucial to navigate ethical and data security challenges while responsibly leveraging these innovations,promising a potential revolution in care access and global eye health equity.

AIM:To report a one-year clinical outcomes of low-dose laser cycloplasty(LcP)among malignant glaucoma ***:In this prospective,multicenter,noncomparative clinical study,participants with malignant glaucoma were recruited and underwent LcP at eight ophthalmic centers in *** were followed up at 1wk,1,3,6,and *** pressure(IOP),number of glaucoma medications,anterior chamber depth(AcD),and complications were *** success was defined as the reformation of the anterior chamber based on slit-lamp *** was defined by the presence of a shallow orﬂat anterior chamber after initial recovery from ***:A total of 34 eyes received *** IOP and medications decreased from 36.1±11.5 mm Hg with 3.3±1.5 glaucoma medications pre-treatment to 20.9±9.8 mm Hg(Pcations(P=0.046)at 1d,and 17.4±6.7 mm Hg(Pcations(PcD increased from 1.1±0.8 mm at baseline to 1.7±1.0 mm and to 2.0±0.5 mm at 1d and 12mo,respectively.A total of 32(94.1%)eyes achieved initial anatomical *** follow-up,2(5.9%)eyes failed and 8(23.5%)eyes relapsed,yielding a 12-month anatomical success rate of 64.3%.complications including anterior synechia(8.82%),choroidal/ciliary detachment(5.88%)and hypopyon(2.94%)were observed within ***:LcP is simple,safe,and effective in reforming the anterior chamber in malignant glaucoma.

Response of an old landslide to reservoir filling: A case history

Unfavorable hydrodynamic evolution is considered as the major cause leading to reservoir slope instability and is often modeled by numerical method. However, this simulation is seldom checked by systematic field instrumentation. Taking the opportunity of filling the Three Gorges Reservoir, a system was established in Xietan landslide to monitor reservoir water level, subground water level, seepage pressure, rainfall and deformation, etc. The monitored data during reservoir filling shows that: (1) The water level rise in the bank lags behind the reservoir filling and the lag time depends on the bank permeability; (2) rainfall-induced subground water rise and its lag time is closely correlated to hourly rainfall, indicating that it is not feasible or sufficient to use daily rainfall for analysis; (3) the effect of inverse seepage during reservoir filling on stability is ephemeral and reservoir filling is the major cause leading to bank instability.

A drilling process monitor （DPM） for ground characterization of weathered granite is presented. The monitor is portable and can be mounted on a hydraulic rotary drilling rig to record various drilling parameters in real time during normal subsurface investigation. The identification method for dominative and subsidiary interfaces has been established. The study reveals that the monitored drilling parameters are dependent on geotechnical materials and can be further applied to characterize ground interfaces. The t-test between manual logging and DPM logging has been carried out. The results show that the DPM has high accuracy in interfaces detection and well agreement with the manual logging. The findings show that the device and data analysis method are of potential application in subsurface drilling exploration in weathered granites. It also seems to have prospective uses in the determination of orebody boundary as well as in the detection of geohazards.

The successful application in drilling for HK simple weathered granite foundation has revealed its further use in instru- mented drilling system as a ground investigation tool in the detection of other lithology formations, geohazards, underground water, and boundary of orebody. To expand the further use and test the accuracy in identification of formation, an R-20 rotary-hydraulic drill rig was instrumented with a digital drilling process monitoring system （DPM） for drilling in an intricate decomposed granite site. In this test ground, the boreholes revealed that the weathered granite alternately changes between moderate and strong. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the penetrating parameters, indicates the effective thrust force, rotary speed, flushing pressure, penetrating rate, and displacement of the bit fluctuate at ground interfaces. It shows that the parameters get a good response with the change of rock strength at the interfaces, which can reveal the change of the intricate granite formation. Besides, a variable-slope method has been established, for identification of dominative and subsidiary interfaces in the granite site. The result from a t-test shows that the confi- dence of the instrumented drilling system in identification of the geotechnical interfaces is up to 99%.

Background:Neovascular age-related macular degeneration(AMD)and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy(PcV)are sight-threatening maculopathies with both environmental and genetic risk *** have previously shown relative risks posed by genes of the complement pathways to neovascular AMD and ***:In this study,we investigated the haplotype-tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)in the complement component 5(c5)gene in 708 unrelated chinese individuals:200 neovascular AMD patients,233 PcV patients and 275 *** tagging SNPs in c5 were *** single SNP association analysis,haplotype-based association analysis and gene-gene interaction analysis between c5 and other AMD-associated genes were ***:The results revealed none of the six tagging SNPs of the c5 gene had a significant association with neovascular AMD or PcV(P>0.05).We also found insignificant haplotype-based association,and no significant SNPSNP interaction between c5 and other genes(including c2-cFB-RDBP-SKIV2L,SERPING1,cETP,ABcG1,PGF,ANGPT2,cFH and HTRA1)for neovascular AMD and ***:This study showed no statistical significance in the genetic association of c5 with neovascular AMD or PcV in a Hong Kong chinese *** studies in large samples from different populations are warranted to elucidate the role of c5 in the genetic susceptibility of AMD and PcV.

Background:To test clinically relevant factors associated with quantitative artifact-free deep capillary plexus(DcP)metrics in patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).Methods:563 eligible eyes(221 with no diabetic retinopathy[DR],135 with mild DR,130 with moderate DR,and 77 with severe DR)from 334 subjects underwent optical coherence tomography-angiography(OcT-A)with a swept-source OcT(Triton DRI-OcT,Topcon,Inc.,Tokyo,Japan).Strict criteria were applied to exclude from analysis those DcP images with artifacts and of poor quality,including projection artifacts,motion artifacts,blurriness,signal loss,B-scan segmentation error,or low-quality score.A customized MATLAB program was then used to quantify DcP morphology from the artifact-free DcP images by calculating three metrics:foveal avascular zone(FAZ),vessel density(VD),and fractal dimension(FD).Results:166(29.5%)eyes were excluded after quality control,leaving in the analysis 397 eyes(170 with no DR,101 with mild DR,90 with moderate DR,36 with severe DR)from 250 *** the multiple regression models,larger FAZ area was associated with more severe DR(β=0.687;p=0.037),shorter axial length(AL)(β=−0.171;p=0.003),thinner subfoveal choroid thickness(β=−0.122;p=0.031),and lower body mass index(BMI)(β=−0.090;p=0.047).Lower VD was associated with more severe DR(β=−0.842;p=0.001),shorter AL(β=0.107;p=0.039),and poorer visual acuity(VA)(β=−0.133;p=0.021).Lower FD was associated with more severe DR(β=−0.891;pconclusions:Quantitative artifact-free DcP metrics are associated with VA,DR severity,AL,subfoveal choroidal thickness,age,and BMI in diabetic *** effects of ocular and systemic factors should be considered for meaningful interpretations of DcP changes in DM patients.

AIM:To review international guidelines and to share our infection control experience during the coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19)pandemic at a tertiary eye centre in Hong ***:Infection control guidelines and recommendations from international ophthalmological bodies are reviewed and *** measures at our hospital were drawn up as per international and local health authorities’guidelines and implemented with the collaboration of doctors,nurses and administrative ***:The aims of our infection control measures are to 1)minimize cross-infection within the hospital;2)protect and support hospital staff;3)ensure environmental *** minimize the risk of cross-infection,outpatient attendance and elective surgery have been reduced by 40%,and general anesthesia procedures were reduced by 90%.Patients entering the hospital are screened for fever,travel history,contact and cluster history,and cOVID-19 related *** protect and support hospital staff,we ensure provision of adequate personal protective equipment(PPE)and provide clear guidelines on the level of PPE needed,depending on the clinical *** protective measures include provision of work uniforms,easy access to alcohol-based hand rub,opening new lunch areas,implementation of self-monitoring and self-reporting systems,and communication via online education and ***,environmental control is achieved by ensuring regular disinfection of the hospital premise,enhancing ventilation,and usage of disposable ophthalmic ***:Our multi-pronged approach to infection control is,so far,successful in minimizing infection risks,while allowing the maintenance of essential ophthalmic services.

Nowadays,Multi Robotic System(MRS)consisting of different robot shapes,sizes and capabilities has received significant attention from researchers and are being deployed in a variety of real-world *** sensors and actuators improved by communication technologies to powerful computing systems utilizing advanced Artificial Intelligence(AI)algorithms have rapidly driven the development of MRS,so the Internet of Things(IoT)in MRS has become a new topic,namely the Internet of Robotic Things(IoRT).This paper summarizes a comprehensive survey of state-of-the-art technologies for mobile robots,including general architecture,benefits,challenges,practical applications,and future research *** addition,remarkable research of i)multirobot navigation,ii)network architecture,routing protocols and communications,and iii)coordination among robots as well as data analysis via external computing(cloud,fog,edge,edge-cloud)are merged with the IoRT architecture according to their ***,security is a long-term challenge for IoRT because of various attack vectors,security flaws,and *** threats,attacks,and existing solutions based on IoRT architectures are also under ***,the identification of environmental situations that are crucial for all types of IoRT applications,such as the detection of objects,human,and obstacles,is also critically ***,future research directions are given by analyzing the challenges of IoRT in mobile robots.
