Thellungiella salsuginea （formerly T. halophila）, a species closely related to Arabidopsis （Arabidopsis thali-ana）, is tolerant not only to high salt levels, but also to chilling, freezing, and ozone. Here, we report that T. salsuginea also shows greater heat tolerance than Arabidopsis. We identified T. salsuginea HsfAld （TsHsfAld） as a gene that can confer marked heat tolerance on Arabidopsis. TsHsfAld was identified via Full-length cDNA Over-eXpressing gene （FOX） hunt-ing from among a collection of heat-stress-related T. salsuginea cDNAs. Transgenic Arabidopsis overexpressing TsHsfAld showed constitutive up-regulation of many genes in the Arabidopsis AtHsfA1 regulon under normal growth tempera-ture. in Arabidopsis mesophyll protoplasts, TsHsfAld was localized in both the nucleus and the cytoplasm. TsHsfAld also interacted with AtHSP90, which negatively regulates AtHsfAls by forming HsfA1-HSP90 complexes in the cytoplasm. It is likely that the partial nuclear localization of TsHsfAld induced the expression of the AtHsfAld regulon in the transgenic plants at normal temperature. We also discovered that transgenic Arabidopsis plants overexpressing AtHsfAldwere more heat-tolerant than wild-type plants and up-regulated the expression of the HsfAld regulon, as was observed in TsHsfAld-overexpressing plants. We propose that the products of both TsHsfAld and AtHsfAld function as positive regulators of Arabidopsis heat-stress response and would be useful for the improvement of heat-stress tolerance in other plants.

Assessments of phytoplankton diversity in Sabah waters,North Borneo,have primarily relied on morphology-based identification,which has inherent biases and can be time-consuming.Next-Generation Sequencing(NGS)technology has been shown to be capable of overcoming several limitations of morphology-based methods.Samples were collected from the Sepanggar Bay over the course of the year 2018 in different monsoon seasons.Morphology-based identification and NGS sequencing of the V8–V9 region of the 18S LSU rDNA were used to investigate the diversity of the phytoplankton community.Microscopy and NGS showed complementary results with more diatom taxa detected by microscopy whereas NGS detected smaller and rarer taxa.The harmful algal genera in the study site comprised of Skeletonema,Margalefidinium,Pyrodinium,Takayama,and Alexandrium as detected by NGS.This study showed that that an integrative approach of both morphological and molecular techniques could provide more comprehensive information about the phytoplankton community as the approach captured quantitative variability as well as the diversity of phytoplankton species.

The effect of qibla direction on the hierarchy of movement in mosque:A case study of mosques in Yazd,Iran

In the architecture of Iranian-lslamic mosques,besides the geographic directions affecting the climate,the direction of qibla also affects their architecture.In the present study,based on the descriptive-analytical method and using the material flow pattern and the activity relationship chart,the pattern of the path of human movement from the entrance to the altar,as well as the degree of proximity of each space relative to other spaces in this movement path were investigated.After describing and analyzing the qibla axis through the structural study on 12 samples of the traditional mosques of Yazd owing to the attention given by the people of this region to religious discussion and their efforts to focus on the axis qibla direction-the hierarchy of human movement was investigated with reference to the mosque being placed in the axis of the qibla direction considering the geometry,arrangement of forms,and interior functions.Studies in this area indicate that the architects and builders of mosques have considered the preservation of the divine orientation or the qibla,the path of human movement from his early arrival to his placement in the direction of the qibla axis,and the preservation of geometry as the valuable principles.

Mesenteric vein thrombosis following impregnation via in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer

Pregnancy is an acquired hypercoagulable state. Most patients with thrombosis that develops during pregnancy present with deep vein leg thrombosis and/or pulmonary embolism, whereas the development of mesenteric vein thrombosis(MVT) in pregnant patients is rare. We report a case of MVT in a 34-year-old woman who had achieved pregnancy via in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer(IVFET). At 7 wk of gestation, the patient was referred to us due to abdominal pain accompanied by vomiting and hematochezia, and she was diagnosed with superior MVT. Following resection of the gangrenous portion of the small intestine, anticoagulation therapy with unfractionated heparin and thrombolysis therapy via a catheter placed in the superior mesenteric artery were performed, and the patient underwent an artificial abortion. Oral estrogen had been administered for hormone replacement as part of the IVF-ET procedure, and additional precipitating factors related to thrombosis were not found. Pregnancy itself, in addition to the administered estrogen, may have caused MVT in this case. We believe that MVT should be included in the differential diagnosis of a pregnant patient who presents with an acute abdomen.

A Partial Order in the Knot Table Ⅱ

A partial order on the set of the prime knots can be defined by the existence of a surjective homomorphism between knot groups. In the previous paper, we determined the partial order in the knot table. In this paper, we prove that 31 and 41 are minimal elements. Further, we study which surjection a pair of a periodic knot and its quotient knot induces, and which surjection a degree one map can induce.

Methane, Nitrous Oxide and Ammonia generation in full-scale swine wastewater purification facilities

The activated sludge process to remove nitrogen and biochemical oxygen demand （BOD） is reportedly cost-effective for swine wastewater treatment, and it use has thus increased in pig farming. Nitrous oxide （N20） is generated on farms as an intermediate product in nitrification and denitrification, and methane （CH4） is also generated from organic degradation under anaerobic conditions by microorganisms in manure or wastewater. This study was carried out at five activated sludge treatment facilities across Japan between August 2014 and January 2015. Measurements were conducted over several weeks at wastewater purification facilities for swine farms： two in Chiba prefecture （East Japan）, two in Okayama prefecture （West Japan）, and one in Saga （Southern Japan）. Taking several environmental fluctuations into account, we collected measurement data continuously day and night, during both high-temperature and low-temperature periods. The results indicated that CH4 and N20 emission factors were 0.91% （kgCHa·kg volatile solids^-1） and 2.87% （g N2O-N·kg total N^-1）, respectively. Ammonia emissions were negligible in all of the measurements from the wastewater facilities. The N20 emission factor calculated under this experiment was low compared to our previous finding （5.0%; g N2O-N·kg N^-1） in a laboratory experiment. In contrast, the CH4 emission factor calculated herein was rather high compared to the laboratory measurements. There was great variation in daily GHG emission factors measured in the actual wastewater treatment facilities. In particular, the N2O emission rate was affected by several environmental conditions at each facility location, as well as by the management of the wastewater treatment.

A clinicopathological study of 39 cases of atypical polypoid adenomyoma of the uterus

Objective:To clarify the clinical and pathological characteristics of atypical polypoid adenomyoma(APA)in order to improve the criteria used to diagnose and treat this disease.Study design:In 39 cases of APA,retrospective analysis was performed of theclinical data,pathological characteristics,and the follow-up findings in patients admitted to the Peking University People's Hospital from 2007 to 2019.Results:The median age was 39.6 years(range 24–60 years).Thirty seven patients were premenopausal(i.e.94.9%)and eighteen patients were nullipara(i.e.46.2%).Abnormal uterine bleeding was the most common presenting symptom.Hysteroscopic transcervical resection(i.e.TCR)identified lesions in 35 cases whereas:(a)hysterectomy identified them in 3 cases;(b)dilatation and curettage(D&C)identified them in 1 case.Immunohistochemical analysis was performed on 24 samples.In the glandular component,hormone receptors were positively expressed.In all cases,Ki67 expression was detectable in approximately 50%of the cases.In those samples,its presence was definitive in eighteen of the nineteen cases(94.7%,18/19),p53 positive expression was present in most cases(68.8%,11/16),and PTEN positive expression was detected in 40%(4/10).Stroma immunophenotype expression was exhibited as follows:(a)CD10-(12/12),Desminþ(6/7);(b)Vimentinþ(4/4);(c)α-SMAþ(3/3)and;d p16 positve staining in of 80%(4/5).The concurrent amount of atypical endometrial hyperplasia with atypical polypoid adenomyoma was 23.1%(9/39),while its concurrent level of endometrial carcinoma with atypical polypoid adenomyoma was 7.7%(3/39).Fertility preserving treatments were performed in 20 patients with strong childbearing desires.Their pregnancy success was 15%(3/20)and the live birth frequency was 10%(2/10).Follow-up findings were available in 36 cases(92.3%)with a medial follow-up of 48.1 months(range 4–122 months).Its pathological recurrence and frequency of progression into endometrial carcinoma were both 5%(1/20).One case died of another type of malignancy,while the other pat

Morphology Effects of Leading-edge Serrations on Aerodynamic Force Production： An Integrated Study Using PIV and Force Measurements

While the leading-edge serration in owls＇ wing is known to be responsible for low noise gliding and flapping flights, the findings on its aero-acoustic role have been diverse or even controversial. Here we present an experimental study of the morphological effects of leading-edge serrations on aerodynamic force production by utilizing owl-inspired, single-feather, clean and serrated wing models with different serration lengths and spacing, and by combining Particle Image Velocimetry （PIV） and force measurements. Force measurements show that an increase in the length and density of the leading-edge serrations leads to a reduction in the lift coefficient and lift-to-drag ratio at Angles of Attack （AoAs）〈 15° whereas the clean and serrated wings achieve comparable aerodynamic performance at higher AoAs 〉 15°, which owl wings often reach in flight. Furthermore PIV visualization of the flow fluctuations demonstrates that the leading-edge serration-based mechanism is consistent in all serrated wing models in terms of passive control of the laminar-turbulent transition while at AoAs 〉 15° similar suction flow is present at leading edge resulting in a comparable aerodynamic performance to that of the clean wing. Our results indicate the robustness and usefulness of leading-edge serration-inspired devices for aero-acoustic control in biomimetic rotor designs.

Trisomy 3 may predict a poor response of gastric MALT lymphoma to Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy

AIM: To investigate the relation of the response to Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy to the depth of tumor invasion and chromosome abnormalities in patients with mucosaassociated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and to determine the clinical value of aneuploidy.METHODS: We studied 13 patients with localized gastric MALT lymphoma of stage E1. Before eradication therapy,the depth of tumor invasion was assessed by endoscopic ultrasonography in 8 patients and by endoscopic examination and gastrointestinal series in the remaining patients. To detect chromosomal abnormalities, paraffin-embedded tissue sections of diagnostic biopsy specimens underwent tissuefluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), using chromosomespecific α-satellite DNA probes for chromosomes 3,7,12,and 18 and YAC clones for t(11;18)(q21;q21).RESULTS: Seven of the 13 patients had complete regression(CR) in response to H pylori eradication therapy. No patient with CR had submucosal tumor invasion. Trisomy 18 was seen in 1 patient with CR, and both trisomies 12 and 18 were present in another patient with CR. All patients with no response or progressive disease had deep submucosal tumor invasion and showed t(11;18)(q21;q21) or trisomy 3. Trisomy 7 was not detected in this series of patients.CONCLUSION: The depth of tumor invasion is an accurate predictor of the response of stage E1 MALT lymphoma to H pylori eradication therapy and is closely associated with the presence of chromosomal abnormalities. Trisomy 3 may predict the aggressive development of MALT lymphoma.

Effects of long-term androgen replacement therapy on the physical and mental statuses of aging males with late-onset hypogonadism： a multicenter, randomized controlled trial in Japan （EARTH Study）

Androgen replacement therapy （ART） efficacy on late-onset hypogonadism （LOH） has been widely investigated in Western countries; however, it remains controversial whether ART can improve health and prolong active lifestyles. We prospectively assessed long-term ART effects on the physical and mental statuses of aging men with LOH in Japan. The primary endpoint was health-related quality of life assessed by questionnaires. Secondary endpoints included glycemic control, lipid parameters, blood pressure, waist circumference, body composition, muscular strength, International Prostate Symptom Scores （IPSS）, International Index of Erectile Function-5 （IIEF-5） scores, and serum prostate-specific antigen levels. Of the 1637 eligible volunteers, 334 patients 〉 40 years with LOH were randomly assigned to either the ART （n = 169） or control groups （n = 165）. Fifty-two weeks after the initial treatment, ART significantly affected the role physical subdomain of the short form-36 health survey （SF-36） scale （P= 0.0318）. ART was also associated with significant decreases in waist circumstance （P = 0.002） and serum triglyceride （TG）（P = 0.013） and with significant increases in whole-body and leg muscle mass volumes （P= 0.071 and 0.0108, respectively）, serum hemoglobin （P 〈 0.001）, IPSS voiding subscore （P = 0.0418）, and the second question on I IEF-5 （P = 0.0049）. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of severe adverse events. In conclusion, in patients with LOH, long-term ART exerted beneficial effects on Role Physical subdomain of the SF-36 scale, serum TG, waist circumstance, muscle mass volume, voiding subscore of IPSS, and the second question of IIEF-5. We hope our study will contribute to the future development of this area.
