Halomethoxybenzenes(HMBs)are a group of compounds with natural and anthropogenic *** we extend a 2002e2015 survey of bromoanisoles(BAs)in the air and precipitation at Rå€o on the Swedish west coast and Pallas in Subarctic *** BAs data are reported for 2018 and 2019 and chlorinated HMBs are included for these and some previous years:drosophilin A methyl ether(DAME:1,2,4,5-tetrachloro-3,6-dimethoxybenzene),tetrachloroveratrole(TeCV:1,2,3,4-tetrachloro-5,6-dimethoxybenzene),and pentachloroanisole(PeCA).The order of abundance of HMBs at Råo was SBAs>DAME>TeCV>PeCA,whereas at Pallas the order of abundance was DAME>SBAs>TeCA>*** lower abundance of BAs at Pallas reflects its inland location,away from direct marine ***-Clapeyron(CC)plots of log partial pressure(Pair)/Pa versus 1/T suggested distant transport at both sites for PeCA and local exchange for DAME and *** were dominated by distant transport at Pallas and by both local and distant sources at Rå€*** between air and precipitation concentrations were examined by scavenging ratios,SR=(ng m^(-3))precip/(ng m^(-3))*** were higher at Pallas than Rå€o due to greater Henry's law partitioning of gaseous compounds into precipitation at colder *** is produced by terrestrial *** screened 19 fungal species from Swedish forests and found seven of them contained 0.01e3.8 mg DAME per kg fresh *** suggest that the volatilization of DAME from fungi and forest litter containing fungal mycelia may contribute to atmospheric levels at both sites.

Aims The Gap Partitioning Hypothesis(GPH)posits that gaps create heterogeneity in resources crucial for tree regeneration in closed-canopy forests,allowing trees with contrasting strategies to coexist along resource *** studies have examined gap partitioning of temperate,ground-layer vascular *** used a ground-layer plant community of a temperate deciduous forest in northern Wisconsin,USA,as a model system to test whether the GPH extends to the relatively species-rich ground *** We used a well-replicated experimental approach that included a gap opening gradient(five gap sizes,6,10,20,30 and 46 m diameter,and undisturbed reference areas),a within-gap location gradient(gap edge to center),and a temporal gradient(0,2,6 and 13 years after gap creation).The data were observations of ground-layer plant abundance,published plant traits,and a modeled index of understory light *** ordinated the plant abundance data and evaluated the relationships of composition,traits and light environment by gap size,location along the forest-gap transect and time,with several approaches such as correlations,descriptive statistics,non-parametric tests of group differences and indicator species importance *** Findings Ground-layer plant composition and traits differed across gap sizes,within-gap locations and over *** of all sizes differed in composition from undisturbed areas,and all pair-wise combinations of gap size also differed in composition,except the 6 m from the 10-m *** gaps(46 m)also displayed within-gap compositional gradients from gap edge to center *** differences in gap size were evident 2 years after gap creation and,contrary to our hypotheses,remained different over the 13-year period,even in gaps with crown *** contrast to the neutral theory,species functional traits and microenvironmental conditions were related to variation in ground-layer *** with smaller seeds,low

CoSb3-based mark mid-temperature skutterudites have been a benchthermoelectric material under intensive experimental and theoretical studies for decades. Doping and filling, to the first order, alter the crystal lattice constant of CoSb3 in the context of ＂chemical pressure.＂ In this work, we employed ab initio density functional theory in conjunction with semiclassical Boltzmann transport theory to investigate the mechanical properties and especially how hydrostatic loadings, i.e., ＂physical pressure,＂ impact the electronic band structure, Seebeck coefficient, and power factor of pristine CoSb3. It is found that hydrostatic pressure enlarges the band gap, suppresses the density of states （DOS） near the valence band edge, and fosters the band convergence between the valley bands and the conduction band minimum （CBM）. By contrast, hydrostatic tensile reduces the band gap, increases the DOS near the valence band edge, and diminishes the valley bands near the CBM. Therefore, applying hydrostatic pressure provides an alternative avenue for achieving band convergence to improve thermoelectric properties of N-type CoSb3, which is further supported by our carrier concentration studies. These results provide valuable insight into the further improvement of thermoelectric performance of CoSb3-based skutterudites via a synergy of physical and chemical pressures.

This brief note introduces the conceptual framework of special and general relativity isoclocks and isoframes. Isoclocks and isoframes, as defined herein, can be used to create geometrical maps of space and time (“space-time”) with and without matter embedded. They are useful for having a mental picture of space-time relationships without having to picture 4-dimensional manifolds, which very few students and scientists are able to do. With the aid of the optical lensing definition of curvature as inverse radius, a new gravitational force equation is derived, which also incorporates Einstein’s mass/energy relation in the mx term. Thus, one may see how it is that gravitational force correlates with its time-embedded curvature-squared (Cx2) space in a more accurate formulation than could be envisioned by Newton. This becomes more apparent in high gamma fields, such as found near a black hole horizon. It is hoped that probability theories, such as quantum field theories in curved space-time, might be adaptable to the general relativity isoframe concept introduced herein.

Cohesin is a multiprotein complex that not only is essential for cell division but also has key roles in genome organization that underpin its gene regulatory *** mutations of genes encoding cohesin subunits occur in myeloid malignancies at 10%–12%(Kon et al.,2013),and the frequency of cohesin mutation in Down syndrome-associated megakaryoblastic leukaemia is even higher(~50%)(Yoshida et al.,2013).Cohesin insufficiency reinforces stem cell programmes and impairs differentiation in haematopoietic stem cells(Mazumdar et al.,2015;Mullenders et al.,2015;Viny et al.,2015).The STAG2 subunit of cohesin is the most frequently mutated in myeloid malignancies(Kon et al.,2013).In contrast to other cohesin subunits,complete loss of STAG2 is tolerated due to partial compensation by ***2 and STAG1 have redundant roles in cell division(Benedetti et al.,2017;van der Lelij et al.,2017).However,cohesin-STAG1 and cohesin-STAG2 have non-redundant roles in facilitating 3D genome organization to delineate tissue-specific gene expression(Kojic et al.,2018).

Aim： To examine the inter-relationships among age, lifestyle factors, anthropometric parameters, percent body fat and steroid hormone parameters in 531 healthy Singaporean Chinese men aged between 29 and 72 years old. Methods： Various lifestyle parameters were quantified through a survey, and testosterone （T）, estradiol （E2）, dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate （DHEAS） and sex hormone binding globulin （SHBG） were measured using established methods. Anthropometric parameters were collected and computed, and percent body fat （Siri） was measured using the DEXA scanner. Results： SHBG, DHEAS, bioavailable-T （Bio-T）, E2, Siri, Ht, W/H, W/Ht and work stress were independently correlated with age. Using multivariate analyses and adjusting for age and other related factors, exercise, smoking and alcohol consumption have positive impacts on androgen levels and body composition. However, black and green tea consumption was associated with negative effects on body composition and with higher levels of E2 and Free Estradiol Index （FEI）. Men with shorter sleep duration had significantly lower T levels as compared to those with 6 h or more of nightly sleep. Higher T levels were associated with lower levels of adiposity and other indices of adiposity, whereas higher E2 levels were related to higher levels of adiposity. Men with higher DHEAS were significantly taller and heavier than those with low DHEAS levels. Conclusion： The study showed the close interactions among the gonadal/adrenal and metabolic compartments, with age being a key determinant in their interactions. Lifestyle factors such as exercise, smoking, sleeping and alcohol and tea consumption might play significantly roles in determining the status of health in men.

BACKGROUND The xeroderma pigmentosum group G(XPG)gene at chromosome 13q33 consists of 15 exons,which may be related to the occurrence and development of gastric cancer(GC).AIM To examine the association of several common single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)of the XPG gene with GC risk and *** Five SNPs of XPG(rs2094258,rs751402,rs873601,rs2296147,and rs1047768)were genotyped by PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism in 956 histologically confirmed GC cases and 1012 controls in North *** patients were followed for survival status and,if deceased,cause of *** regression and Cox regression were used for analysing associations of XPG SNPs with risk of GC and prognosis,*** rs2094258,heterozygous model(CT vs CC),homozygous model(TT vs CC),recessive model(TT vs CT+CC),and dominant model(TT+CT vs CC)were *** None of the examined loci were statistically associated with GC risk,although rs2296147 was marginally associated with GC risk(P=0.050).GC patients with the rs2094258 CT+CC genotype showed worse survival than those with the TT genotype(log-rank test,P=0.028),and patients with the CC genotype had a tendency of unfavourable prognosis compared with those with the TT+CT genotype(log-rank test,P=0.039).The increase in C alleles of rs2094258[hazard ratio(HR)=1.19,95%confidence interval(CI):1.02-1.45,P=0.037]were associated with the long-term survival of GC *** risk factors for survival included tumor differentiation(HR=4.51,95%CI:1.99-8.23,P<0.001),lymphovascular invasion(HR=1.97,95%CI:1.44-3.01,P<0.001),and use of chemotherapy(HR=0.81,95%CI:0.63-0.98,P=0.041).CONCLUSION The XPG rs2094258 polymorphism may be associated with overall survival in GC patients.

江苏盐城沿海滩涂地区是世界上最大的丹顶鹤(Grus japonensis)越冬地.如今全球的丹顶鹤仅约2700只,而每年在此越冬的丹顶鹤接近世界野生个体总数的一半.因此,盐城滩涂的环境状况对于保护该物种的意义不言而喻.该地区能够容纳承养多少丹顶鹤?这是一个关键性的问题.此前尚无人就盐城滩涂对丹顶鹤的承载力作过详细分析.处于保护下的野生动物应按照'生态承载力'来分析其容纳量.由于滩涂上水源较充足,食物和隐蔽物就是丹顶鹤对生境的主要两方面需求,也即限制因子.根据2004～2005年越冬期统计的鹤数及其分布,运用Neu方法分析丹顶鹤对盐城8种不同栖息地的选择性,结果显示它们最偏爱的生境是稻田和草滩,可以栖息在芦苇(Phragmites commums)地、淡水养殖塘或大米草滩,而回避的生境是泥滩、盐田、盐地碱蓬(Suaeda salsa)滩.之后,作者用'热量法'计算了射阳基地圈养丹顶鹤的饲料成分,基本符合营养定额标准;而人工投放的玉米饲料难以保障野生鹤的生存.又按'重量法',以丹顶鹤对各生境的利用程度为权重,估算得盐城保护区可利用的食物总量远远大于鹤群一个越冬期所需量,表明食物并非生境的决定性因子.此外,作者分析了丹顶鹤对各种主要食物的选择性,发现植物在食物总量中占比例极小,但其喜爱的食物却是植物性的稻谷和人工的玉米饲料.总而言之,其种群喜爱居留在淤长型海岸带及食物量大、距道路(人类活动)远、盐度小的栖息地.核心生境丹顶鹤的分布密度约0.8～2.5只/km2,则1000km2最适宜生境的容纳量为800～2500只;实际上,近10a来80%～90%的鹤群分布收缩在核心区与缓冲区(面积共641km2),则整个保护区容纳量为570～2004只.结合这两方面考虑,作者预测盐城保护区的丹顶鹤承载力为2000～2500只,目前其数量未达饱和,种群还将增长.
