The Pan-Eurasian Experiment Modelling Platform(PEEX-MP)is one of the key blocks of the PEEX Research *** PEEX MP has more than 30 models and is directed towards seamless envir-onmental *** main focus area is the Arctic-boreal regions and *** models used in PEEX-MP cover several main components of the Earth’s system,such as the atmosphere,hydrosphere,pedosphere and biosphere,and resolve the physicalchemicalbiological processes at different spatial and temporal scales and *** paper introduces and discusses PEEX MP multi-scale modelling concept for the Earth system,online integrated,forward/inverse,and socioeconomical modelling,and other approaches with a particular focus on applications in the PEEX geographical *** employed high-performance com-puting facilities,capabilities,and PEEX dataflow for modelling results are *** virtual research platforms(PEEXView,Virtual Research Environment,Web-based Atlas)for handling PEEX modelling and observational results are *** over-all approach allows us to understand better physical-chemicalbiological processes,Earth’s system interactions and feedbacks and to provide valuable information for assessment studies on evaluating risks,impact,consequences,*** population,envir-onment and climate in the PEEX *** work was also one of the last projects of *** Zilitinkevich,who passed away on 15 February *** the finalization took time,the paper was actually submitted in 2023 and we could not argue that the final paper text was agreed with him.

Long-grain rice cultivars Cocodrie, Wells, and XP 723 grown in three locations （Hazen, MO; Essex and Newport, AR, USA）, and medium-grain rice cultivars Bengal and XP 713 grown in two locations （jonesboro and Lodge Corner, AR, USA）, were harvested and assayed for susceptibility to Rhyzopertha dominica （F.）（Coleoptera： Bostrichidae）, the lesser grain borer, and Sitophilus oryzae （L.）（Coleoptera： Curculionidae）, the rice weevil, on rice held at 27℃, 57% and 75% relative humidity （RH）. Separate samples from the same harvest lots were also analyzed for the physical characteristics of brown rice yield, percentage whole kernels and kernel thickness. Progeny production and feeding damage of R. dominica were significantly different among long-grain cultivars within two of the three locations （P 〈 0.05）, but not for location or RH （P ≥ 0.05）, while progeny production of S. oryzae was different among cultivars, location, and RH （P 〈 0.05）. On medium-grain rice, both cultivar and location were significant for progeny production of R. dominica, but not RH, while cultivar and RH were significant for progeny production of S. oryzae, but not location. On both rice types, feeding damage of R. dominica followed the same trends and was always strongly positively correlated with progeny production （P 〈 0.05）, but for S. oryzae there were several instances in which progeny production was not correlated with feeding damage （P ≥ 0.05）. Physical characteristics of both rice types were statistically significant （P 〈 0.01） but actual numerical differences were extremely small, and were generally not correlated with progeny production of either species. Results indicate that the location in which a particular rice cultivar is grown, along with its characteristics, could affect susceptibility of the rice to R. dominica and S. oryzae.

Recovery of threatened plant species and their habitats in the biodiversity hotspot of the Southwest Australian Floristic Region

The Southwest Australian Floristic Region(SWAFR) is a global biodiversity hotspot with high plant diversity and endemism and a broad range of threatening processes. An outcome of this is a high proportion of rare and threatened plant species. Ongoing discovery and taxonomic description of new species, many of which are rare, increases the challenges for recovery of threatened species and prioritisation of conservation actions. Current conservation of this diverse flora is based on integrated and scientific evidence-based management. Here we present an overview of current approaches to the conservation of threatened flora in the SWAFR with a focus on active management through recovery and restoration that is integrated with targeted research. Key threats include disease, fragmentation, invasive weeds, altered fire regimes, grazing, altered hydro-ecology and climate change. We highlight the integrated approach to management of threats and recovery of species with four case studies of threatened flora recovery projects that illustrate the breadth of interventions ranging from In situ management to conservation reintroductions and restoration of threatened species habitats. Our review and case studies emphasise that despite the scale of the challenge, a scientific understanding of threats and their impacts enables effective conservation actions to arrest decline and enhance recovery of threatened species and habitats.

Over the last decade, remote sensing technologies have provided useful tools for a diverse range of sectors. G-STEP （GMES--space technology exchange partnership） is the University of Leicester＇s flagship project for innovation, training and education in GMES （global monitoring for environment and security） and GIS （geographical information systems） based technologies. G-STEP （part funded by the ERDF） is the first GMES accelerator initiative in the UK and is breaking new ground in the application of GMES and GIS. The core G-STEP team initiates and develops Knowledge Exchange Practices between the University and Life Long Learning partners in the East Midlands Region, through training packages and collaborative research projects. The programme integrates innovative research, to direct downstream applied training, supported by analytical processing of attendee assessment data. Collated information derived from these sources presents a unique opportunity to incorporate a statistically viable feedback cycle, making G-STEP the interface between pure and applied research, thus initiating downstream dissemination to groups and small business. In this paper, we outline the GMES and GIS training packages, and the route to market to increase uptake of underused data streams via university and regional entrepreneurs （start-ups） and established small business with a core interest in utilisation and dissemination of novel technologies in sustainable lifelong learning.

Post-Endoscopy Self-Limited Unspecified Fever: Rare or Common Adverse Event after Endoscopy?—An Observational, Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Although post-endoscopy fever (PEF) without colon perforation or haemorrhage is believed to be rare, incidence, risk factors and causes in the adult population have not been fully investigated. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the incidence of PEF and identify the risk factors associated with the development of PEF and its outcomes. Material and Methods: Over a three-month period, 1054 non-hospitalised patients who had an endoscopic procedure at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi received a post-procedure phone call within the first 24 hours. After identifying patients with fever and obtaining verbal consent, patients were enrolled in the study using a standardised telephone interview. Results: Thirty-four patients with PEF were identified. The highest temperature measured was 39.8 degrees Celsius. Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy, as a single procedure, was the most commonly performed (41.2%). Logistic regression revealed that no significant group differences across procedure types existed in terms of adjusted odds of fever. However, results also indicated that age has a significant negative relationship with fever—higher age is associated with lower odds of fever (b = -0.033, p = 0.024). Conclusion: PEF is an unpleasant side effect and it is associated with patient discomfort, dissatisfaction and fear during post-endoscopy recovery. Although our findings do not fully explain the possible mechanisms underlying post-endoscopy fever, this study data should increase awareness about PEF as a common side effect related to endoscopy.

Supplying the electronic equipment by exploiting ambient energy sources is a hot spot. In order to achieve the match between power supply and demands under the variance of environments at real time, a reconfigurable technique is taken. In this paper, a dynamic power consumption model by using a lookup table as a unit is proposed. Then, we establish a system-level task scheduling model according to the task type. Based on single instruction multiple data （SIMD） architecture which contains a processing system and a control system with a Nios II processor, a practical dynamic reconfigurable system is built. The approach is evaluated on a hardware platform. The test results show that the system can automatically adjust the power consumption in case of external energy input changing. The utilization of the system dynamic power of their portion is from 80.05% to 91.75% during the first task assignment. During the entire processing cycle, the total energy efficiency is 97.67%.
