Childhood priapism is a rare entity and there is currently no consensus regarding its contemporary *** use of perioperative anticoagulation and open distal corporaglandular shunt procedure in the management of childhood priapism has not been reported in the *** present a stuttering case of a 13-year-old boy who presented with idiopathic ischaemic priapism lasting 13 h in duration,which recurred despite corporal aspiration and alpha-adrenergic agonist injections,percutaneous distal shunt surgery,and revision of percutaneous distal shunt *** was eventually successfully managed with perioperative subcutaneous enoxaparin,oral aspirin and clopidogrel in conjunction with an Al-Ghorab shunt,which led to sustained detumescence but with spontaneous morning *** paediatric patients with sustained childhood priaprism failing stepwise treatments,an Al-Ghorab shunt with perioperative anticoagulation is a viable option.

It has been witnessed that swarm systems are superior to individual agents in performing complicated tasks. In recent years, new results in some branches of control for swarm systems have developed and investigated with respect to various objectives and scenarios. This survey is to take a glimpse into some newly developed control techniques for swarm systems, especially those presented after 2013. The covered topics include some up-to-date progress in the areas of consensus, formation, flocking, containment, optimal coverage/mission planning, and sensor networks. Contributions and connections of the mentioned references are discussed *** on the new results in control of swarm systems, some possible new future research topics are suggested.

Leaf color patterns vary depending on leaf age,pathogen infection,and environmental and nutritional stresses;thus,they are widely used to diagnose plant health statuses in agricultural *** visible-near infrared-shortwave infrared(VIs-NIR-sWIR)sensor measures the leaf color pattern from a wide spectral range with high spectral ***,spectral information has only been employed to understand general plant health statuses(e.g.,vegetation index)or phytopigment contents,rather than pinpointing defects of specific metabolic or signaling pathways in ***,we report feature engineering and machine learning methods that utilize VIs-NIR-sWIR leaf reflectance for robust plant health diagnostics,pinpointing physiological alterations associated with the stress hormone,abscisic acid(ABA).Leaf reflectance spectra of wild-type,ABA2-overexpression,and deficient plants were collected under watered and drought ***-and ABA-associated normalized reflectance indices(NRIs)were screened from all possible pairs of wavelength *** associated NRIs showed only a partial overlap with those related to ABA deficiency,but more NRIs were associated with drought due to additional spectral changes within the NIR wavelength *** support vector machine classifiers built with 20 NRIs predicted treatment or genotype groups with an accuracy greater than those with conventional vegetation *** selected NRIs were independent from leaf water content and chlorophyll content,2 well-characterized physiological changes under *** screening of NRIs,streamlined with the development of simple classifiers,serves as the most efficient means of detecting reflectance bands that are highly relevant to characteristics of interest.

A switched system is a dynamic system that operates by switching between different subsystems or *** systems exhibit both continuous and discrete characteristics—a dual nature that makes designing effective control policies a challenging *** purpose of this paper is to review some of the latest computational techniques for generating optimal control laws for switched systems with nonlinear dynamics and continuous inequality *** discuss computational strategies for optimizing both the times at which a switched system switches from one mode to another(the so-called switching times)and the sequence in which a switched system operates its various possible modes(the so-called switching sequence).These strategies involve novel combinations of the control parameterization method,the timescaling transformation,and bilevel programming and binary relaxation *** conclude the paper by discussing a number of switched system optimal control models arising in practical applications.

Proton transfer and chiral conversion via hydrogen bonds (HBs) are important processes in applications such as chiral recognition, enzymatic catalysis, and drug preparation. Herein, we investigate the chiral conversion and interlayer recognition, via concerted intralayer proton transfer (CIPT) processes, of small prismatic water clusters, in the form of bilayer n−membered water rings (BnWRs, n = 4, 5, 6). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that despite the small energy variations between the initial and final states of the clusters of less than 0.3 kcal·mol−1, the vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectrum provides clear chiral recognition peaks in the range of 3,000 to 3,500 cm−1. The vibrational modes in this region correspond to stretching of intralayer HBs, which produces strong signals in the infrared (IR) and Raman spectra. The electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectrum also reveals obvious chiroptical characteristics. The molecular orbitals involved in the interlayer interaction are dominated by O 2p atomic orbitals; the energy of these orbitals increased by up to 0.1 eV as a result of the CIPT processes, indicating corresponding recognition between monolayer water clusters. In addition, isotopic substitution by deuterium in the BnWRs results in characteristic peaks in the VCD spectra that can be used as fingerprints in the identification of the chiral structures. Our findings provide new insights into the mechanism of chiral recognition in small prismatic water clusters at the atomic level as well as incentives for future experimental studies. Resilience as a concept is multi-faceted with complex *** a disaster context,there is lack of consistency in conceptualizing social *** results in ambiguity of its definition,properties,and pathways for assessment.A number of key research gaps exist for critically reviewing social resilience conceptualization,projecting resilience properties in a disaster-development continuum,and delineating a resilience trajectory in a multiple disaster *** review addressed these research gaps by critically reviewing social resilience definitions,properties,and *** review found four variations in social resilience definitions,which recognize the importance of abilities of social systems and processes in disaster phases at different levels.A review of resilience properties and pathways in the disaster resilience literature suggested new resilience properties—“risk-sensitivity”and“regenerative”in the timeline of two consecutive *** review highlights a causal pathway for social resilience to better understand the resilience status in a multi-shock scenario by depicting inherent and adaptive resilience for consecutive disaster scenarios and a historical case study for a resilience trajectory in a multiple disaster *** review findings will assist disaster management policymakers and practitioners to formulate appropriate resilience enhancement strategies within a holistic framework in a multi-disaster timeline.

Actinide elements encaged in a superatomic cluster can exhibit unique properties due to their hyperactive valence electrons. Herein, the electronic and spectroscopic properties of Th@Au14 are predicted and compared with that of the isoelectronic entities [Ac@Au14]- and [Pa@Au14]＋ using density functional theory. The calculation results indicate that these clusters all adopt a closed- shell superatomic 18-electron configuration of the 1s21p61D10 Jellium state. The absorption spectrum of Th@Au14 can be interpreted by the Jelliumatic orbital model. In addition, calculated spectra of pyridine-Th@Au14 complexes in the blue laser band exhibit strong peaks attributable to charge transfer （CT） from the metal to the pyridine molecule. These charge-transfer bands lead to a resonant surface-enhanced Raman scattering （sERs） enhancement of -104. This work suggests a basis for designing and synthesizing sERs substrate materials based on actinide-embedded gold superatom models.

This present paper dealt with bending deformation and failure behavior of sandwich and multilayer beams composed of aluminum foam core and metallic face sheets by finite element method(FEM) and four-point bending *** revealed that collapse of the multilayer beams is dominated by two basic modes:indentation(ID) and core shear(Cs).ID is dominated by the maximum compressive strain and Cs by the maximum shear *** failure of the sandwich beams depends on if the face sheets show ID mode in the multilayer beams or *** a multilayer beam is dominated by ID mode,the sandwich beams with similar face sheets and same core thickness would also show ID *** a multilayer beam fails fully by Cs mode,no ID characteristic would appear in similar face sheet single-core *** failed by ID mode have a potential to consume more bending deformation energy than those dominated by Cs *** dense foam can bear higher loading,which in turn,increases the ability of absorbing deformation energy for a *** applications of deformation energy absorption aspect,beams containing foam core and metallic face sheets should be designed to have a tendency of ID mode failure.
