Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global public health problem. Early detection and initiation of treatment shortens infectious period and is key to TB control. A considerable proportion of TB patients presenting with advanced symptoms suggests delay in seeking care. As TB control programs rely on passive case finding, TB care-seeking behavior is critical as un-diagnosed cases act as reservoirs for transmission. This study assessed patient health seeking behavior and choice of place of care among TB patients in Nigeria. Methods: This was a pro-gramme implementation, facility-based cross-sectional study in 14 states, 92 facilities across three levels of care. Interviewer-administered semi-structured questionnaires were used. Information on personal characteristics and health seeking behavior was collected from June 2020 to December 2021. The analysis was based on the various healthcare providers where the respondents first sought care. Data analysis was done using IBM SPSS and summarized using frequency and percentages. Chi square test was used for associations of characteristics of patients and choice of place of care at p Results: In all 14 states, distribution of overall first place of seeking care for TB symptoms was: 7208 (75.8%) health facilities (range 57% to 88%), while 2294 (24.2%) visited other places including community pharmacist, patent medicine vendor, traditional/home, un-specified/none. For Health facilities, the majority were at public facilities 6563 (69.1%) and private 641 (6.7%). Moreover, 6 states had >20% of respondents who first sought care at PMVs, while 3 states (Delta, Imo, and Rivers) had 10% of respondents who first sought care at Community Pharmacist. Conclusions: Nearly a quarter of people with TB first sought care outside health facilities, suggesting the need to align availability of services with their needs.

Physical and mechanical characteristics of composite briquette from coal and pretreated wood fines

Melina wood torrefied at 260℃ for 60 min was agglomerated with lean grade coal fines into composite briquettes using pitch as *** biomass(3%-20%)and coal fines(80%-97%)were blended together to produce the composite briquettes under a hydraulic press(28 MPa).The briquettes were cured at 300℃.Density,water resistance,drop to fracture,impact resistance,and cold crushing strength were evaluated for the composite *** proximate,ultimate,and calorific value analyses were carried out according to different ASTM *** studies were carried out using scanning electron microscope and electron probe microanalyzer equipped with energy dispersive *** Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer(FTIR)was used to obtain the functional groups in the raw materials and *** density of the composite briquettes ranged from 0.92 to 1.31 g/cm^(3) after *** with95%).The highest cold crushing strength of 4 MPa was obtained for briquettes produced from 97%coal fines and 3%torrefied *** highest drop to fracture(54 times/2 m)and impact resistance index(1350)were obtained for the sample produced from 97%coal and 3%torrefied *** fixed and elemental carbons of the briquettes showed a mild improvement compared to the raw *** peaks from FTIR spectra for the briquettes shows the presence of aromatic C=C bonds and phenolic OH *** composite briquettes with up to 20%torrefied biomass can all be useful as fuel for various applications.

Densification of agricultural residues into briquettes as the alternative renewable feedstock can improve their physico-mechanical and storage properties as solid *** paper presents the physico-mechanical properties of the composite briquettes made from corncob and rice *** samples of corncob and rice husk were collected,sorted and pulverised into fines of 0.25,1.00 and 1.75 mm particle *** fines were blended at mixing ratios of 80꞉20,70꞉30,60꞉40,and 50꞉50,bonded with 5%starch on weight percentage basis and compressed at compaction pressures of 25,50,and 65 kPa to produce the briquette *** briquette made from 80:20 ratio of corncob to rice husk,0.25 mm particle size and 65 kPa pressure exhibited the highest compressive strength of 111 kN/m2 and the least of 39 kN/m^(2) from briquette with 50꞉50 ratio of corncob to rice husk,1.75 mm particle size and 25 kPa *** briquette made from 50꞉50 ratio of corncob to rice husk,0.25 mm particle size and 65 kPa pressure had the highest water resistance capacity,and the least from briquette of 80꞉20 ratio of corncob to rice husk,1.75 mm particle size and 25 kPa *** resulting physico-mechanical qualities of the produced corncob and rice husk briquettes suggested that they could be used as the solid fuels for domestic and industrial applications.

Evaluation of Corrosion Behaviour of Grey Cast Iron and Low Alloy Steel in Cocoa Liquor and Well Water

Corrosion behaviour of cast iron and low alloy steel in cocoa liquor and well water was investigated. The average weight losses of the specimens were measured using digital weighing balance. The results showed that the weight losses of both cast iron and low alloy steel in both media increases with time. Corrosion rate of cast iron in cocoa liquor increases rapidly with time for up to 336 hours (1000 μm/yr), but in well water the rapid rate of corrosion only lasted up to 187 hours (1160 μm/yr) thereafter it continuously dropping until 264 hours (667 μm/yr) after which it remains constant. Low alloy steel corroded faster in cocoa liquor up to 264 hours (200 μm/yr), whereas the initial rapid corrosion rate only lasted up to 168 hours (180 μm/yr) in well water environment. The results revealed that low alloy steel exhibited better corrosion resistance in both media, with cocoa liquor been more aggressive. Thus, low alloy steel will be a better material for piping and pumping system in cocoa processing industries.

Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Medium Carbon Steel Quenched in Water and Oil

Samples of medium carbon steel were examined after heating between 900℃ - 980℃ and soaked for 45 minutes in a muffle furnace before quenching in palm oil and water separately. The mechanical behavior of the samples was investigated using universal tensile testing machine for tensile test and Vickers pyramid method for hardness testing. The microstructure of the quenched samples was studied using optical microscope. The tensile strength and hardness values of the quenched samples were relatively higher than those of the ascast samples, suggesting improved mechanical properties. However, samples quenched in palm oil displayed better properties compared with that of water-quenched samples. This behavior was traced to the fact that the carbon particles in palm oil quenched samples were more uniform and evenly distributed, indicating the formation of more pearlite structure, than those quenched in water and the as-received samples.
