This study aims to investigate the toxicity and possible effects and mechanism of action of the essential oil obtained from the Piper tuberculatum Jacq.‘s fruit(EOPT)on the central nervous system(CNS)of *** the Hippocratic test,it was observed ambulation reduction,sedation,piloerection and mortality of 25%at the dose of 1000 mg/kg and 50%at the dose of 5000 mg/*** results found demonstrate that the EOPT is endowed with a possible depressant effect,and is characterized by a likely sedative(open field test),anxiolytic-like(elevated plus maze test),anticonvulsant(pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure test)and hypnotic action(pentobarbital-induced sleeping time).These effects may possibly occur due to the interaction between the monoterpenes,present in its essential oil,and the GABAergic pathway confirmed by reversion of the effects by ***,these results demonstrate the therapeutic potential and the validation of the ethnopharmacological use of this species in the treatment of disorders affecting the central nervous system.

Increased inspiratory esophagogastric junction pressure in systemic sclerosis:An add-on to antireflux barrier

AIM:To investigate crural diaphragm(CD)function in systemic sclerosis(SSc)using high-resolution manometryand standardized inspiratory ***:Eight SSc volunteers(average age,40.1years;one male)and 13 controls(average age,32.2years;six males)participated in the study.A highresolution manometry/impedance system measured the esophagus and esophagogastric junction(EGJ)pressure profile during swallows and two respiratory maneuvers:sinus arrhythmia maneuver(SAM;the average of six EGJ peak pressures during 5-s deep inhalations)and threshold maneuver(TM;the EGJ peak pressures during forced inhalation under 12 and 24 cm H2O loads).Inspiratory diaphragm lowering(IDL)was taken as the displacement of the EGJ high-pressure zone during the ***:SSc patients had lower mean lower esophageal sphincter pressure than controls during normal breathing(19.7±2.8 mm Hg vs 32.2±2.7 mm Hg,P=0.007).Sinus arrhythmia maneuver pressure was higher in SSc patients than in controls(142.6±9.4 mm Hg vs 104.6±13.8 mm Hg,P=0.019).Sinus arrhythmia maneuver pressure normalized to IDL was also higher in SSc patients than in controls(83.8±13.4 mm Hg vs37.5±6.9 mm Hg,P=0.005).Threshold maneuver pressures normalized to IDL were also greater in SSc patients than in controls(TM 12 cm H2O:85.1±16.4mm Hg vs 43.9±6.3 mm Hg,P=0.039;TM 24 cm H2O:85.2±16.4 mm Hg vs 46.2±6.6 mm Hg,P=0.065).Inspiratory diaphragm lowering in SSc patients was less than in controls(2.1±0.3 cm vs 3±0.2 cm,P=0.011).CONCLUSION:SSc patients had increased inspiratory EGJ *** is an add-on to EGJ pressure and indicates that the antireflux barrier can be trained.

AIM： To investigate the effects of mangiferin on gas- trointestinal transit （GIT） in normal and constipated mice, together with the possible ***： Intragastrically-administered charcoal mealwas used to measure GIT in overnight starved Swiss mice. In the first experiments, mangiferin （3 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg, and 100 mg/kg, po） or tegaserod （1 mg/kg, ip） were administered 30 min before the char- coal meal to study their effects on normal transit. In the second series, mangiferin （30 mg/kg） was tested on delayed GIT induced by several different pharma- cological agonists （morphine, clonidine, capsaicin） or antagonists （ondansetron, verapamil, and atropine） whereas in the third series, mangiferin （30 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg） or tegaserod （1 mg/kg） were tested on 6 h fecal pellets outputted by freely fed mice. The ratio of wet to dry weight was calculated and used as a marker of fecal water content. RESULTS： Mangiferin administered orally significantly （P 〈 0.05） accelerated GIT at 30 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg （89% and 93%, respectively）, similarly to 5-hydroxytrypta- mine4 （5-H%） agonist tegaserod （81%） when compared to vehicle-treated control （63%）. Co-administered man- giferin （30 mg/kg） totally reversed the inhibitory effect of opioid agonist morphine, 5-HT3-receptor antagonist ondansetron and transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 receptor agonist capsaicin on GIT, but only to a partial extent with the GIT-delay induced by ~2-adrenoceptor agonist clonidine, and calcium antagonist verapamil. However, co-administered atropine completely blocked the stimulant effect of mangiferin on GIT, suggesting the involvement of muscarinic acetylcholine receptor activation. Although mangiferin significantly enhanced the 6 h fecal output at higher doses （245.5±10.43 mg vs 161.9±10.82 mg and 227.1±20.11 mg vs 161.9±10.82 mg of vehicle-treated control, at 30 and 100 mg/ kg, P 〈 0.05, respectively）, the effect of tegaserod was more potent （297.4±7.42 mg vs 161.9±1

α,β-amyrin, a natural triterpenoid ameliorates L-arginine-induced acute pancreatitis in rats

AIM: To study the benef icial effects of triterpene α,β-amyrin and the underlying mechanisms in an experimental pancreatitis model. METHODS: Acute pancreatitis was induced in five groups of rats (n = 8) by L-arginine (2 × 2.5 g/kg, intraperitoneal, 1 h apart) and 1 h later, they received a single oral dose of α,β-amyrin (10, 30 and 100 mg/kg),methylprednisolone (30 mg/kg) and vehicle (3% Tween 80). A saline (0.9% NaCl) treated group served as a normal control. Efficacy was assessed at 24 h by determination of serum levels of amylase, lipase and proinflammatory cytokines [tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6], pancreatic myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, lipid peroxidation [thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS)], nitrate/nitrite levels, and the wet weight/body weight ratio. Tissue histology and the immunoreactivity for TNF-α and inducible nitric oxide synthetase (iNOS) were performed. RESULTS: α,β-amyrin and methylprednisolone treatments significantly (P < 0.05) attenuated the L-arginine-induced increases in pancreatic wet weight/body weight ratio, and decreased the serum levels of amylase and lipase, and TNF-α and IL-6, as compared to the vehicle control. Also, pancreatic levels of MPO activity, TBARS, and nitrate/nitrite were signifi cantly lower. Histological f indings and TNF-α and iNOS immunostaining further confirmed the amelioration of pancreatic injury by α,β-amyrin. CONCLUSION: α,β-amyrin has the potential to combat acute pancreatitis by acting as an anti-in? ammatory and antioxidant agent.

Objective:To investigate the effect of ions on brain acetylcholinesterase(AChE;EC 3.***.1.7)activities from economic important fish[pirarucu,Arapaima gigas;tambaqui,Colossoma macropomum;cobia,Rachycentron canadum(***)and Nile tilapia,Oreochromis niloticus(***)]comparing with a commercial enzyme from electric eel[Electrophorus electricus(***)].Methods:Thein vitro exposure was performed at concentrations ranging from 0.001 to 10 mmol/L(except for ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid;up to 150 mmol/L).Inhibition kinetics *** *** were also observed through four methods(Michaelis-Menten,Lineweaver-Burk,Dixon and Cornish-Bowden plots)in order to investigate the type of inhibition produced by some ***:Hg^(2+),As^(3+),Cu^(2+),Zn^(2+),Cd^(2+)caused inhibition in all the species under ***^(2+),Mg^(2+)and Mn^(2+)induced slight activation *** enzyme while Pb^(2+),Ba^(2+),Fe^(2+),Li+inhibited the AChE from some of the analyzed *** lowest IC50 and Ki values were estimated *** AChE in presence of Hg^(2+),Pb^(2+),Zn^(2+).Under our experimental conditions,the results *** ***,As^(3+),Cu^(2+),Cd^(2+),Pb^(2+)and Zn^(2+)showed a non-competitive/mixed-type inhibition,while Hg^(2+)inhibited the enzyme in a mixed/competitive-like ***:*** AChE activity was affected by ten of fifteen ions under study showing that this enzyme could undergo interference by these ions when used as pesticide biosensor in environmental *** hindrance would be less relevant for the crude extracts.

This study investigated the action of proteolytic enzymes in the production of goat viscera hydrolysates,and their flavoring *** study focus the production of flavor precursor molecules and the formation of volatile compounds resulting from four hydrolysis treatments:HA-Alcalase®,HF-Flavourzyme®,HN-Neutrase®,and HFN-Flavourzyme® and Neutrase®.The highest degree of hydrolysis (26.74%),number (23 volatiles) and concentration of volatile compounds (274.0 μg/L) were obtained with the action of *** main classes of volatile compounds identified in hydrolysates included acids,aldehydes,pyrazines,terpenes and Streacker *** acids,sugars and fatty acids were identified with higher concentrations in HF and HFN hydrolysates due to the low participation of these precursors in the formation of volatile ***,the use of Alcalase in the proteolysis of goat viscera stood out compared to other enzymes,providing impacting aroma compounds,such as pyrazines,for meat flavor.

Attention Model for Chronic Conditions:Blind Women and Their Sons

It aimed to analyze the assistance to the blind woman during prenatal care, childbirth, and child-care in light of the Model of Attention to Chronic Conditions. This is a descriptive, qualitative study. A collection was done through semi-structured interview and analysis of the speeches, conducted by content technique proposed by Bardin, emerging from the screening process. Ten mothers aged between 21 and 42 years old participated in the study. Three categories were identified: prescriptive and focused attention on the disease;for collaborative and focused attention on the person;uniprofessional attention to the multidisciplinary attention;establishment of relationship between the family health strategy and the specialized outpatient care. The women experienced chronic conditions according to the Model in addition to blindness. Study results show that for blind women, attention in the health service has weaknesses in service, both in the prenatal period and childbirth, and in childcare. It deems necessary transformation in assisting the blind woman.

Status of Health Promotion Established after the Family Health Strategy

Objective: To summarize the scientific knowledge concerning the promotion of health after establishing the Family Health Strategy. Method: This is an integrative review conducted in databases: LILACS, MEDLINE/PubMed, SciELO and Cochrane, using following key words: Family Health Strategy;Health Promotion and Health Personnel. Results: After the criteria established 23 articles were selected, identifying strengths, weaknesses and challenges of health promotion after establishing the Family Health Strategy. Conclusion: Despite the effectiveness of health promotion practices in many health units of the family still persist the curative care model.

目的:比较适利达与类似药物Drenatan在原发性开角型青光眼患者中关于降低眼内压的单药治疗疗效。方法:该回顾性研究包括62例患者(119眼)。初诊时,正在使用适利达的患者转为使用类似药物拉坦前列素(Drenatan)。12wk后的复诊阶段进行全面的眼科检查,包括裂隙灯、Goldmann压平眼压计、立体眼底、前房角镜、超声角膜测厚仪以及自动视野检查。结果:使用Drenatan之前和之后平均眼内压分别为12.30±2.02mmH g和12.38±2.05mmH g(P=0.559)。R=0.987显示两者显著相关。结论:适利达和Drenatan在降低眼内压方面具有相似功效。该发现对于降低公共卫生成本,维护其药物疗效和安全性政策具有重要意义。

Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant,antibacterial and bacterial cell agglutination activities of the hexane(Hex) and 70%ethanol(70%EtOH) extracts of two species of red seaweeds Pterocladiella capillacea(***) and Osmundaria ***:In vitro antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical scavenging assay,ferric-reducing antioxidant power assay,ferrous ion chelating assay,β-carotene bleaching assay and total phenolic content *** activity was tested using the method of disc diffusion on Mueller-Hinton *** ability of algal extracts to agglutinate bacterial cells was also ***:The 70%EtOH extract of the two algae showed the highest values of total phenolic content compared to the Hex *** results of DPPH for both extracts(Hex,70%EtOH) of Osmundaria obtusiloba(43.46%and 99.47%) were higher than those of ***(33.04%and 40.81%) at a concentration of 1 000 μg/*** for the ferrous ion chelating,there was an opposite behavior,extracts of *** had a higher *** extracts showed a low ferric-reducing antioxidant power,with optical density ranging from0.054 to *** activities of all extracts evaluated for β-carotene bleaching were above 40%.There was no antibacterial activity against bacterial strains ***,the extracts of both species were able to agglutinate bacterial Gram positive cells of Staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative cells of Escherichia coli,multidrug-resistant Salmonella and Vibrio *** This is the first report of the interaction between these algal extracts,rich in natural compounds with antioxidant potential,and Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial cells.
