Effects of Addition of Lactobacillus plantarum and Enterococcus faecium Inoculants to High-Nitrogen Fertilized Timothy (Phleum pratense L.) on Fermentation, Nutritive Value, and Feed Intake of Silage

The objective of this study was to examine the effects of addition of inoculant to high-nitrogen (N) fertilized timothy on fermentation, nutritive value, and feed intake of silage. The silage of timothy cultivated with a N fertilizer rate at two levels (high level (H), standard level (S)) was prepared with (SI, HI) or without (SC, HC) an inoculants. The CP content of H increased by 38 g·kg-1 DM compared with that of S, and the WSC and ADF contents decreased compared with those of S. Regarding the fermentation of silage, the pH and NH3-N ratio was significantly lower in the silage with inoculant (SI and HI), showing improvement of the fermentation compared with those of the silage without the addition (SC and HC). The CP content was significantly higher in HC and HI than in SC and SI, and the NDF content was the lowest in HI among the four treatments. The CP digestibility of HC and HI was significantly higher than those of SC and SI. The EE digestibility of SI was significantly higher than that of SC, and that of HI was significantly higher than that of HC. The DCP contents were significantly higher in HC and HI than in SC and SI. The TDN content was the lowest in SC and highest in HI. The DCP intakes of HC and HI were significantly higher than those of SC and SI. When the N fertilizer rate was increased, the DCP content and DCP intake of the silage increased, and the addition of inoculant improved the fermentation and increased the TDN content.

An associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy(ALPPS)has been developed as a novel surgical technique for patients with insufficient future liver remnant volume even after portal vein embolization(PVE)±hepatic arterial or venous embolization or conventional two-stage hepatectomy(TSH)(1-5).ALPPS was thought to be a breakthrough but high-risk procedure;however,it recently became a safer technique after the developing phase(1-3).Conversion surgery is strongly recommended for patients with initially unresectable liver tumors that are deemed resectable by systemic chemotherapy or hepatic arterial chemotherapy/embolization(6,7).The primarily targeted diseases are colorectal liver metastases(CRLM)and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).ALPPS is indicated for patients undergoing not only primary surgery but also conversion surgery.

Inflammation and de-differentiation in pancreatic carcinogenesis

Pancreatic cancer is a malignancy with an extremely poor prognosis. Chronic pancreatitis is a well-known risk factor for pancreatic cancer. Inflammation is thought to influence carcinogenesis through DNA damage and activation of intracellular signaling pathways. Many transcription factors and signaling pathways co-operate to determine and maintain cell identity at each phase of pancreatic organogenesis and cell differentiation. Recent studies have shown that carcinogenesis is promoted through the suppression of transcription factors related to differentiation. Pancreatitis also demonstrates transcriptional changes, suggesting that multifactorial epigenetic changes lead to impaired differentiation. Taken together, these factors may constitute an important framework for pancreatic carcinogenesis. In this review, we discuss the role of inflammation and de-differentiation in the development of pancreatic cancer, as well as the future of novel therapeutic applications.

Hepatitis B virus pathogenesis: Fresh insights into hepatitis B virus RNA

Hepatitis B virus(HBV) is still a worldwide health concern. While divergent factors are involved in its pathogenesis, it is now clear that HBV RNAs, principally templates for viral proteins and viral DNAs, have diverse biological functions involved in HBV pathogenesis. These functions include viral replication, hepatic fibrosis and hepatocarcinogenesis. Depending on the sequence similarities, HBV RNAs may act as sponges for host mi RNAs and may deregulate mi RNA functions, possibly leading to pathological consequences. Some parts of the HBV RNA molecule may function as viralderived mi RNA, which regulates viral replication. HBV DNA can integrate into the host genomic DNA and produce novel viral-host fusion RNA, which may have pathological functions. To date, elimination of HBVderived covalently closed circular DNA has not been achieved. However, RNA transcription silencing may be an alternative practical approach to treat HBVinduced pathogenesis. A full understanding of HBV RNA transcription and the biological functions of HBV RNA may open a new avenue for the development of novel HBV therapeutics.

A dynamically reconfigurable system can change its configuration during operation, and studies of such systems are being carried out in many fields. In particular, medical technology and aerospace engineering must ensure system safety because any defect will have serious consequences. Model checking is a method for verifying system safety. In this paper, we propose the Dynamic Linear Hybrid Automaton (DLHA) specification language and show a method to analyze reachability for a system consisting of several DLHAs.

Relationship between biological factors and catastrophizing and clinical outcomes for female patients with knee osteoarthritis

AIM To investigate the correlations between clinical outcomes and biopsychological variables in female patients with knee osteoarthritis(OA).METHODS Seventy-seven patients with symptomatic knee OA were enrolled in this *** investigated the age,body mass index(BMI),pain catastrophizing scale(PCS)and radiographic severity of bilateral knees using a Kellgren-Lawrence(K-L)grading system of the ***,a multiple linear regression was conducted to determine which variables best correlated with main outcomes of knee OA,which were pain severity,moving capacity by measuring timed-up-and-go test and Japanese Knee Osteoarthritis Measure(JKOM).RESULTS We found that the significant contributor to pain severity was PCS(β=0.555)and BMI(β=0.239),to moving capacity was K-L grade(β=0.520)and to PCS(β=0.313),and to a JKOM score was PCS(β=0.485)and K-L grade(β=0.421),*** The results suggest that pain catastrophizing as well as biological factors were associated with clinical outcomes in female patients with knee OA,irrespective of radiographic severity.
