In the field of earthquake engineering,the advent of the performance-based design philosophy,together with the highly uncertain nature of earthquake ground excitations to structures,has brought probabilistic performance-based design to the forefront of seismic *** order to design structures that explicitly satisfy probabilistic performance criteria,a probabilistic performance-based optimum seismic design(PPBOsD)framework is proposed in this paper by extending the state-of-the-art performance-based earthquake engineering(PBEE)*** is traditionally used for risk evaluation of existing or newly designed structural systems,thus referred to herein as forward PBEE *** contrast,its use for design purposes is limited because design is essentially a more challenging inverse *** address this challenge,a decision-making layer is wrapped around the forward PBEE analysis procedure for computer-aided optimum structural design/retrofit accounting for various sources of *** this paper,the framework is illustrated and validated using a proof-of-concept problem,namely tuning a simplified nonlinear inelastic single-degreeof-freedom(sDOF)model of a bridge to achieve a target probabilistic loss hazard *** this purpose,first the forward PBEE analysis is presented in conjunction with the multilayer Monte Carlo simulation method to estimate the total loss hazard curve efficiently,followed by a sensitivity study to investigate the effects of system(design)parameters on the probabilistic seismic performance of the *** proposed PPBOsD framework is validated by successfully tuning the system parameters of the structure rated for a target probabilistic seismic loss hazard *** PPBOsD framework provides a tool that is essential to develop,calibrate and validate simplified probabilistic performance-based design procedures.

Microbial biomass carbon (MBC), a small fraction of soil organic matter, has a rapid turnover rate and is a reservoir of labile nutrients. The water-extractable carbon pools provide a fairly good estimate of labile C present in soil and can be easily quantified. Changes in soil MBC and water-extractable organic carbon pools were studied in a 14-year long-term experiment in plots of rice-wheat rotation irrigated with canal water (CW), sodic water (sW, 10-12.5 mmol c L-1 residual sodium carbonate), and sW amended with gypsum with or without application of organic amendments including farmyard manure (FYM), green manure (GM), and wheat straw (Ws). Irrigation with sW increased soil exchangeable sodium percentage by more than 13 times compared to irrigation with CW. sodic water irrigation significantly decreased hot water-extractable organic carbon (HWOC) from 330 to 286 mg kg-1 soil and cold water-extractable organic carbon (CWOC) from 53 to 22 mg kg-1 soil in the top 0-7.5 cm soil layer. In the lower soil layer (7.5-15 cm), reduction in HWOC was not significant. Application of gypsum alone resulted in a decrease in HWOC in the sW plots, whereas an increase was recorded in the sW plots with application of both gypsum and organic amendments in both the soil layers. Nevertheless, application of gypsum and organic amendments increased the mean CWOC as compared with application of gypsum alone. CWOC was significantly correlated with MBC but did not truly reflect the changes in MBC in the treatments with gypsum and organic amendments applied. For the treatments without organic amendments, HWOC was negatively correlated with MBC (r = 0.57*) in the 0-7.5 cm soil layer, whereas for the treatments with organic amendments, both were positively correlated. Irrigation with sW significantly reduced the rice yield by 3 t ha-1 and the yield of rice and wheat by 5 t ha-1 as compared to irrigation with canal water. Application of amendments significantly increased rice and wheat yields.

This case study evaluates the seasonal variability of the Pearson's linear correlation coefficient of land surface temperature(LsT)with some spectral indices like NDVI,NDWI,NDBI,and NDBaI by using a series of Landsat images for 1991-92,1995-96,1999-00,2004-05,2009-10,2014-15,and *** results from the average correlation of the entire period of all-season show that the LsT builds a positive correlation with NDBI(0.71)and NDBaI(0.52)while it builds a negative correlation with NDVI(-0.44).The LsT-NDWI correlation is *** best correlation is noticed in the post-monsoon period,while the least correlation is observed in the winter *** study can support the environmental planning to build a sustainable city under a similar environment.

The Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri Kuwayama) is known to exhibit abdominal color polymorphisms. In the current study, susceptibility to four insecticides was compared among orange/yellow, blue/green and gray/brown color morphs of field collected D. citri. The LD50 values and 95% fiducial limits were quantified for each insecticide and color morph combination and ranged between 0.10 ng/μL (0.06-0.10) and 6.16 ng//μL (3.30-12.50). second, we measured the detoxification enzyme activity levels of orange/yellow, blue/green and gray/brown color morphs for cytochrome P450, glutathione "s-transferase, and general esterase. The mean P450 activity (equivalent units) was significantly lower in gray/brown (0.152 ± 0.006) and blue/green morphs (0.149 ± 0.005) than in the orange/yellow morphs (0.179 ± 0.008). GsT activity (/imol/min/mg protein) was significantly lower in the orange/yellow morph (299.70 ± 1.24) than gray/brown (350.86 ± 1.19) and blue/green (412.25 ±1.37) morphs. The mean EsT activity (/xmol/min/mg protein) was significantly higher in blue/green (416.72±5.12) and gray/brown morphs (362.19 ± 4.69) than in the orange/yellow morphs (282.56 ± 2.93). Additionally, we analyzed the relative expression of assortment genes involved in cuticular melanization and basal immunity. The transcripts of Dopa Decarboxylase and Tyrosine Hydroxylase were expressed higher in blue/green and gray/brown than orange/yellow morphs. The transcription results paralleled the susceptibility of *** to organophosphate, neonicotinoid and pyrethroid insecticides. GsT and EsT activity may also be correlated with low levels of insecticide susceptibility. Cuticular melanization could be a factor for the development of resistance to insecticides among different color morphs.
