AIM: To determine the utility of interferon (IFN) -αproduction capacity in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection for the measurement of immunosurveillance potential and for the early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by investigating the Sendai virus (HVJ) stimulated IFN-α production capacity of patients with HCV ***: HVJ stimulated IFN-α production was determined in a large number of patients with HCV infection and the development of HCC was monitored for 3 years in patients with liver cirrhosis (LC).RESULTS: IFN-α production capacity decreases gradually with the progression of liver disease from chronic hepatitis (CH) to HCC. A significant correlation between the duration of HCV infection and impaired IFN-α production capacity was observed. IFN-α production in patients who developed HCC within 3 years was significantly lower than that of patients who remained in LC without developing ***: Measurement of IFN-α production in LC patients may be useful for the early detection of HCC.

Bulk samples of lanthanum polyphosphate were synthesized through a hydrothermal hot-pressing(HHP)*** this process,pressing temperature,pressure and volume of water were varied in order to improve the density and strength of the resulting *** strength of the bulk samples was estimated through drilling and ultrasonic *** order to improve the strength of the materials,the use of microwave irradiation was *** polyphosphate formed porous bulk samples with a filling factor of approximately 70%,which was calculated from real and theoretical *** respect to machinable strength,a drilled hole greater than 7.0 mm in diameter was obtained on some bulk samples,and the diameter of the samples was 14 *** HHP process is a useful method for obtaining bulk samples of lanthanum *** lanthanum polyphosphate containing water crumbled easily to a powder form upon ***,these bulk samples retained their shape upon ultrasonication,despite containing water,after exposure to microwave irradiation,and also experienced minimal weight ***,to study the effect of microwave heating,bulk lanthanum orthophosphate,yttrium orthophosphate and polyphosphate were also examined.

Condensed matters with high ionic conductivities are crucial in various solid devices such as solid-state batteries. The conduction ischaracterized by the cooperative ionic motion associated with the high carrier density. However, the high cost of computingcorrelated ionic conductivities has forced almost all ab initio molecular dynamics (MD) to rely on the Nernst–Einstein dilute-solutionapproximation, which ignores the cross-correlation effect. Here we develop a chemical color-diffusion nonequilibrium MD (CCD-NEMD) method, which enables to calculate the correlated conductivities with fewer sampling steps than the conventional MD. ThisCCD-NEMD is demonstrated to well evaluate the conductivities in the representative solid electrolyte bulk Li10GeP2S12 andLi_(7)La_(3)Zr_(2)O_(12). We also applied CCD-NEMD to the grain boundary of Li_(7)La_(3)Zr_(2)O_(12) and demonstrated its applicability for calculatinginterfacial local conductivities, which is essential for investigating grain boundaries and composite electrolytes. CCD-NEMD canprovide further accurate understanding of ionics with ionic correlations and promote developing solid devices.

The biodegradation of selected pharmaceutical micropollutants,including two pharmaceuticals with argued biodegradation,was studied by a lab-scale membrane *** reaction kinetics and affecting factors were also investigated in this *** acid(CA)with contradictive biodegradation reported was degraded almost completely at different hydraulic retention times(HRTs)after adaptation to *** biodegradation of CA was disturbed at low pH operation,while the activity of microorganisms recovered again after pH adjustment to neutral ***(IBP)degraded under neutral and acidic *** of IBP and CA were zero-order and first-order reactions under high and low initial concentrations,*** and diclofenac were not degraded regardless of HRTs and pH.

Recent studies on staggered labyrinth seals have focused on the effects of different parameters,such as the pressure ratio and rotational speed on the leakage flow ***,few investigations pay sufficient attention to flow details and the sealing mechanism,which would be of practical importance in designing seals having higher *** paper establishes a theoretical model to study the seal mechanism,thus revealing that leakage is determined by the pressure ratio and geometric *** simulation is implemented to illustrate details of the flow field within the seal *** dissipation is used to quantitatively investigate the contribution that each location makes to the seal performance,revealing that orifices and stagnation points are the most important positions in the seal structure,generating the most *** orifice is carefully studied by using the theoretical *** for different pressure ratios are conducted and the results match well with those of the theoretical model and numerical simulation,verifying the theoretical model and analysis of the seal *** new designs,based on a good understanding of the seal mechanism,are presented,with one reducing leakage by 24.5%.

Dry machining has become a key issue to significantly reduce the wastes of used lubricants and cleaning agents and to improve the environmental consciousness for medical and food applications of special tooling. Since the tools and metallic works are in direct contact in dry, severe adhesive wear and oxidation are thought to occur even at the presence of hard protective coatings. Self-lubrication mechanism with use of lubricous oxide films is found to be effective for dry machining. Through the chlorine ion implantation to tools, titanium base oxides are in-situ formed on the tool surface. This oxide deforms elasto-plastically so that both friction coefficient and wear volume are reduced even in the high-speed cutting.

The nano-structured NiO powder obtained by sol-gel method was doped with 10 wt% gold in order to modify its morphology as well as its electrochemical catalytic *** NO_x sensing characteristics of mixed-potential-type YSZ-based planar sensors attached with each of the nano-NiO and the Au-doped nano-NiO materials as a sensing electrode SE) were examined at temperatures of 700℃～800℃.The Au-doped NiO-SE was found to give a large enhancement in the NO_2 sensitivity as well as the NO_2 selectivity at 800℃under wet condition,in comparison with the pure *** reason for the improvement in the NO_2 sensitivity was examined based on the data of polarization curves,impedance spectra and catalytic activity for the gas-phase NO_2 decomposition.

Lysine succinylation(Ksucc),defined as a transfer of a succinyl group to a lysine residue of a protein,is a newly identified protein post-translational modification^*** chemical modification is reversible,dynamic,and evolutionarily conserved^4 where it has been comprehensively studied in both bacterial and mammalian cells^*** proteins involved in the regulation of various cellular and biological processes have been shown to be heavily succinylated^*** clinical data provides evidence that dysregulation of Ksucc is correlated with the development of several diseases,including cardiovascular diseases and cancer^***,an in-depth understanding of Ksucc and its regulation is important not only for understanding its physiological function but also for developing drug therapies and targeted agents for these *** this review,we highlight some of the recent advances in understanding the role of Ksucc and desuccinylation under physiological and pathological conditions.
