Micro RNAs and clinical implications in hepatocellular carcinoma

To assess the role of some circulating miRNAs (miR-23a, miR-203, miR338, miR-34, and miR-16) as tumor markers for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODSOne hundred and seventy-one subjects were enrolled, 57 patients with HCC, 57 patients with liver cirrhosis (LC) and 57 healthy subjects as control group. Severity of liver disease was assessed by Child Pugh score. Tumor staging was done using Okuda staging system. Quantification of Micro RNA (miR-23a, miR-203, miR338, miR-34, and miR-16) was performed. RESULTSAll studied miRNA showed significant difference between HCC and cirrhotic patients in comparison to healthy control. miR-23a showed statistically significant difference between HCC and cirrhotic patients being higher in HCC group than cirrhotic. miR-23a is significantly higher in HCC patients with focal lesion size equal or more than 5 cm, patients with multiple focal lesions and Okuda stage III. At cutoff value ≥ 210, miR-23a showed accuracy 79.3% to diagnose HCC patients with sensitivity 89.47% and specificity about 64.91%. At cut off level ≥ 200 ng/mL, serum alpha fetoprotein had 73.68% sensitivity, 52.63% specificity, 43.75% PPV, 80% NPV for diagnosis of HCC. CONCLUSIONMicroRNA 23a can be used as a screening test for early detection of HCC. Also, it is related to larger size of tumour, late Okuda staging and multiple hepatic focal lesions, so it might be a prognostic biomarker.

Hepatitis C virus(HCV) is a global challenge; 130-175 million are chronically infected. Over 350000 die each year from HCV. Chronic HCV is the primary cause of cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), and end-stage liver disease. Management of chronic HCV is aimed at preventing cirrhosis, reducing the risk of HCC, and treating extra hepatic complications. New treatments for chronic HCV has been devoted based on direct-acting antivirals, as pegylated interferon(peginterferon) is responsible for many side effects and limits treatment access. Sofosbuvir is the first compound to enter the market with Peginterferon-free combination regimens.

Robust Designs Through Risk Sensitivity:An Overview

This is an overview paper on the relationship between risk-averse designs based on exponential loss functions with or without an additional unknown(adversarial)term and some classes of stochastic *** particular,the paper discusses the equivalences between risk-averse controller and filter designs and saddle-point solutions of some corresponding risk-neutral stochastic differential games with different information structures for the *** of the by-products of these analyses is that risk-averse controllers and filters(or estimators)for control and signal-measurement models are robust,through stochastic dissipation inequalities,to unmodeled perturbations in controlled system dynamics as well as signal and the measurement *** paper also discusses equivalences between risk-sensitive stochastic zero-sum differential games and some corresponding risk-neutral three-player stochastic zero-sum differential games,as well as robustness issues in stochastic nonzero-sum differential games with finite and infinite populations of players,with the latter belonging to the domain of mean-field games.

Increasing spatial coverage in rough terrain and vegetated areas using InSAR optimized pixel selection:application to Tohoku,Japan

One of the major limitations of using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar(InSAR)in time series analysis is the low-phase coherence associated with rough terrain and vegetated areas,which results in limited spatial coverage in such *** scatterers technique was introduced to overcome this limitation using time-series ***,identifying major scatterers within a pixel requires the single-looked pixels oversampling which can be a demanding process especially with large interferometric stacks and vast study ***,using multilooked temporal coherent pixels was proposed to increase processing efficiency and coverage by utilizing distributed targets,but this technique may exclude pixels with reliable phase returns because of their temporal varying neighboring *** this paper,we propose a technique to identify multilooked temporal stable pixels with reliable phase returns independent of their neighboring *** conduct a simulation analysis to relate the spatial coherence of a pixel with its expected temporal correlation in the time series analysis *** found that a liberal temporal correlation threshold of 0.53 in multilooked pixels stack is equivalent to a spatial coherence threshold of 0.2 when using number of looks of 9,which is considered acceptable in temporal coherent pixels,in terms of phase standard *** these findings to study the 2011 Tohoku earthquake in the northeastern part of Japan resulted in increasing the number of usable pixels and spatial coverage index by nearly 50.4%and 36.8%,respectively,compared to the temporal coherent ***,we propose an approach to integrate GPS observations with InSAR time series analysis,which resulted in deformation maps of the megathrust 2011 Tohoku earthquake with mean RMSE of 11.4 mm and a correlation of 98%in comparison to GPS observations.

A survey of RDF data management systems

RDF is increasingly being used to encode data for the semantic web and data exchange. There have been a large number of works that address RDF data manage- ment following different approaches. In this paper we pro- vide an overview of these works. This review considers cen- tralized solutions （what are referred to as warehousing ap- proaches）, distributed solutions, and the techniques that have been developed for querying linked data. In each category, further classifications are provided that would assist readers in understanding the identifying characteristics of different approaches.

Communication Scheduling and Remote Estimation With Adversarial Intervention

We study a communication scheduling and remote estimation problem within a worst-case scenario that involves a strategic adversary. Specially, a remote sensing system consisting of a sensor, an encoder and a decoder is configured to observe,transmit, and recover a discrete time stochastic process. At each time step, the sensor makes an observation on the state variable of the stochastic process. The sensor is constrained by the number of transmissions over the time horizon, and thus it needs to decide whether to transmit its observation or not after making each measurement. If the sensor decides to transmit,it sends the observation to the encoder, who then encodes and transmits the observation to the decoder. Otherwise, the sensor and the encoder maintain silence. The decoder is required to generate a real-time estimate on the state variable. The sensor,the encoder, and the decoder collaborate to minimize the sum of the communication cost for the sensor, the encoding cost for the encoder, and the estimation error for the decoder. There is also a jammer interfering with the communication between the encoder and the decoder, by injecting an additive channel noise to the communication channel. The jammer is charged for the jamming power and is rewarded for the estimation error generated by the decoder, and it aims to minimize its net cost. We consider a feedback Stackelberg game with the sensor, the encoder, and the decoder as the composite leader, and the jammer as the follower. Under some technical assumptions, we obtain a feedback Stackelberg solution, which is threshold based for the scheduler,and piecewise affine for the encoder and the decoder. We also generate numerical results to demonstrate the performance of the remote sensing system under the feedback Stackelberg solution.

Experimental and numerical investigation of zirconium jet performance with different liner shapes design

This paper studies the shaped charge jet performance in terms of different liner shapes including conical,bell,hemispherical and bi-conical *** critical angles and the relevant flow velocities for the zir-conium liner material were calculated analytically and numerically using Autodyn *** relationship between the critical collapse angle and the flow velocity was determined for the conditions of jet formation and *** tests according to the standard testing procedures of APL-RP34(Section-I1)were performed to validate the numerical predictions of the jet performance of the studied *** was found that the four shaped charge liners all produced coherent jets with different *** penetration depth of the shaped charges with the bell and the bi-conical liner shapesincreased by 10.3%and 22%,respectively,while the crater diameter of shaped charge with hemispherical liner increased by 85%representing the formation of an explosively-formed-projectile(EF),when they are compared with the corresponding jet characteristics of a conical liner shaped ***оci 1cu.

Cupping therapy （Hijama in Arabic） is a popular traditional treatment especially in Asia, the Middle East and Central Europe. Traditionally, cupping therapy has been one of the most used practices in Saudi Arabia. Standardization of the practice of cupping therapy is a very important step to eliminate or reduce any adverse events related to cupping. This article gives a brief illustration and highlights the important points of the first accredited Saudi Arabian standards for the safe use of cupping equipment and its applications.

Community Detection Applications in Mobile Networks:Towards Data-Driven Design for Next Generation Cellular Networks

The existing radio access network(RAN)is facing many challenges to meet the very strict speed and latency requirements by different mobile applications in addition to the increasing pressure to reduce operating *** and development in RAN have been accelerated to tackle these challenges and to define how next generation mobile networks should look *** role of machine learning(ML)and artificial intelligence(AI)driven innovations within the RAN domain is strengthening and attracting lots of attention to tackle many of the challenging *** this paper we surveyed RAN network base stations(BSs)clustering and its applications in the *** paper also demonstrates how to leverage community detection algorithms to understand underlying community structures within *** areas(TAs)novel framework was developed by adapting existing community detection algorithm to solve the problem of statically partitioning a set of BSs into TA according to mobility ***,live network dataset in dense urban part of Cairo is used to assess how the developed framework is used to partition this part of the network more efficiently compared to other clustering *** obtained showed that the new methodology saved up to 34.6%of inter TA signaling overhead and surpassing other conventional clustering algorithms.

Radial Basis Function Interpolation and Galerkin Projection for Direct Trajectory Optimization and Costate Estimation

This work presents a novel approach combining radial basis function(RBF)interpolation with Galerkin projection to efficiently solve general optimal control *** goal is to develop a highly flexible solution to optimal control problems,especially nonsmooth problems involving discontinuities,while accounting for trajectory accuracy and computational efficiency *** proposed solution,called the RBF-Galerkin method,offers a highly flexible framework for direct transcription by using any interpolant functions from the broad class of global RBFs and any arbitrary discretization points that do not necessarily need to be on a mesh of *** RBF-Galerkin costate mapping theorem is developed that describes an exact equivalency between the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker(KKT)conditions of the nonlinear programming problem resulted from the RBF-Galerkin method and the discretized form of the first-order necessary conditions of the optimal control problem,if a set of discrete conditions *** efficacy of the proposed method along with the accuracy of the RBF-Galerkin costate mapping theorem is confirmed against an analytical solution for a bang-bang optimal control *** addition,the proposed approach is compared against both local and global polynomial methods for a robot motion planning problem to verify its accuracy and computational efficiency.
