Searching for GeV gamma-ray emission from the bulge of M31

the three major large-scale, diffuse γ-ray structures of the Milky Way are the Galactic disk,a bulge-like GeV excess towards the Galactic center, and the Fermi bubble. Whether such structures can also be present in other normal galaxies remains an open question. M31, as the nearest massive normal galaxy, holds promise for spatially-resolving the γ-ray emission. Based on more than 8 years of Fermi-LAt observations, we use(1) disk,(2) bulge, and(3) disk-plus-bulge templates to model the spatial distribution of the γ-ray emission from M31. Among these, the disk-plus-bulge template delivers the best-fit, in which the bulge component has a tS value 25.7 and a photon-index of 2.57 ± 0.17, providing strong evidence for a centrally-concentrated γ-ray emission from M31, that is analogous to the Galactic center excess. the total0.2–300 GeV γ-ray luminosity from this bulge component is(1.16 ± 0.14) × 1038 erg s-1, which would require ～ 1.5 × 105 millisecond pulsars, if they were the dominant source. We also search for a Fermi bubble-like structure in M31 using the full dataset(pass8), but no significant evidence has been *** addition, a likelihood analysis using only photons with the most accurate reconstructed direction(i.e.,PSF3-only data) reveals a 4.8 σ point-like source located at ～10 kpc to the northwest of the M31 disk, with a luminosity of(0.97 ± 0.27) × 1038 erg s-1 and a pho@ton-$i·nd3 ex of 2.31 ± 0.18. Lacking a counterpart on the southeast side of the disk, the relation between this point-like source and a bubble-like structure remains elusive.

Prevalence of metabolic syndrome in adults in Khanh Hoa,Viet Nam

Background the metabolic syndrome (MS) is characterized by a specific clustering of risk factors, including dyslipidemia, central adiposity, systemic hypertension, insulin resistance, and dysglycemia. It is associated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). Accurate data on prevalence and characteristics of MS will facilitate the development of preventive strategies for CVD. Objective to estimate accurately the prevalence of MS among Vietnamese adults with the usual criteria or with the criteria modified for Asian populations. Design and methods We studied a representative, cross-sectional, population-based sample of 856 subjects (mean age 52.82 ± 16.36) classified in three age groups from 15-34 years, 35-54 years and ＞ 54 years of age, living in Khanh Hoa Province, Viet Nam. MS was diagnosed according to the criteria defined by the third Report of the National Cholesterol Education Program Expect Panel on Detection, Evaluation and treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults (Adult treatment Panel Ⅲ) (NCEP-AtP Ⅲ) and by the modified criteria for some Asian populations in which the waist circumference (WC) is considered abnormal if it is ＞ 90 cm for males and ＞ 80 cm for *** Using the NCEP-AtP Ⅲ criteria, the prevalence of MS in the studied population was 10.0％ (CI 95 ％:8.1-12.3). It was 2.4 ％ in the 15-34 age group (men 4.5％ and women 1.2％),5.2％ (men 6.3％,women 4.5％ ) in 35-54 age group and 15.8％ (men 9.7％, women 21.7％) in over 54 age group, respectively. And it was more common in women than in men (11.7％ vs 8.0％, P ＜0.001). Using 2001 population census data of the whole province over 15 years (695 218 habitants) we estimated that about 35 193 people suffered from the *** WC was the least common feature of MS (2.1％ for men and in 6.1％ for women).Overall,45.2 ％ of the studied population had one feature of MS, 23.1％ had two features, 8.2％ had three features, 1.6％ had four features, and 0.2％ had all five features. AIM： to establish the therapeutic potential of proteasome inhibition, we examined the therapeutic effects of MG132 （Z-Leu-Leu-Leu-aldehyde） in an experimental model of acute pancreatitis. MEtHODS： Pancreatitis was induced in rats by two hourly intraperitoneal （ip） injections of cholecystokinin octapeptide （CCK; 2×100μg/kg） and the proteasome inhibitor MG132 （10 mg/kg ip） was administered 30 min after the second CCK injection. Animals were sacrificed 4 h after the first injection of CCK. RESULtS： Administering the proteasome inhibitor MG132 （at a dose of 10 mg/kg, ip） 90 min after the onset of pancreatic inflammation induced the expression of cell-protective 72 kDa heat shock protein （HSP72） and decreased DNA-binding of nuclear factor-κB （NF-κB）. Furthermore MG132 treatment resulted in milder inflammatory response and cellular damage, as revealed by improved laboratory and histological parameters of pancreatitis and associated oxidative stress. CONCLUSION： Our findings suggest that proteasome inhibition might be beneficial not only for the prevention, but also for the therapy of acute pancreatitis.

DICER-like Proteins and their Role in Plant-herbivore Interactions in Nicotiana attenuata

DICER-like （DCL） proteins produce small RNAs that silence genes involved in development and defenses against viruses and pathogens. Which DCLs participate in plant-herbivore interactions remains unstudied. We identified and stably silenced four distinct DCL genes by RNAi in Nicotiana attenuata （torrey ex. Watson）, a model for the study of plant-herbivore interactions. Silencing DCL1 expression was lethal. Manduca sexta larvae performed significantly better on ir-dcl3 and ir-dcl4 plants, but not on ir-dcl2 plants compared to wild type plants. Phytohormones, defense metabolites and microarray analyses revealed that when DCL3 and DCL4 were silenced separately, herbivore resistance traits were regulated in distinctly different ways. Crossing of the lines revealed complex interactions in the patterns of regulation. Single ir-dcl4 and double ir-dcl2 ir-dcl3 plants were impaired in JA accumulation, while JA- Ile was increased in ir-dcl3 plants. Ir-dcl3 and ir-dcl4 plants were impaired in nicotine accumulation; silencing DCL2 in combination with either DCL3 or DCL4 restored nicotine levels to those of Wt. trypsin proteinase inhibitor activity and transcripts were only silenced in ir-dcl3 plants. We conclude that DCL2/3/4 interact in a complex manner to regulate anti-herbivore defenses and that these interactions significantly complicate the already challenging task of understanding smRNA function in the regulation of biotic interactions.

Mutations around interferon sensitivity-determining region:A pilot resistance report of hepatitis C virus 1b in a Hong Kong population

AIM： to explore mutations around the interferon sensitivity-determining region （ISDR） which are associated with the resistance of hepatitis C virus lb （HCV-lb） to interferon-α treatment. MEtHODS： thirty-seven HCV-lb samples were obtained from Hong Kong patients who had completed the combined interferon-α/ribavirin treatment for more than one year with available response data. Nineteen of them were sustained virological responders, while 18 were non-responders. the amino acid sequences of the extended ISDR （eISDR） covering 64 amino acids upstream and 67 amino acids downstream from the previously reported ISDR were analyzed. RESULtS： One amino acid variation （I2268V, P = 0.023） was significantly correlated with treatment outcome in this pilot study with a limited number of patients, while two amino acid variations （R2260H, P = 0.05 and $2278t, P = 0.05） were weakly associated with treat- ment outcome. the extent of amino acid variations within the ISDR or eISDR was not correlated with treat- ment outcome as previously reported. CONCLUSION： three amino acid mutations near but outside of ISDR may associate with interferon treatment resistance of HCV-lb patients in Hong Kong.

In this study,graphene-carbon nanotube（CNt） hybrid films were directly synthesized on polycrystalline copper（Cu） substrates by thermal chemical vapor deposition（CVD） *** films were synthesized on Cu substrate at 1000 ℃ in mixture of gases:argon（Ar）,hydrogen（H2）,and methane（CH4）.then,carbon nanotubes（CNts） were grown uniformly on the surface of graphene/Cu films at 750 ℃ in mixture of Ar,*** acetylene（C2H2） *** salt FeCl3solution deposited onto the surface of graphene/Cu substrate by spin coating method was used as precursor for the growth of the *** density and quality of the CNts on the surface of graphene/Cu films can be controlled by varying the concentration of FeCl3salt catalyst.

Recent advances towards single biomolecule level understanding of protein adsorption phenomena unique to nanoscale polymer surfaces with chemical variations

Protein adsorption onto polymer surfaces is a very complex and ubiquitous phenomenon whose integrated process impacts essential applications in our daily lives such as food packaging materials,health devices,diagnostic tools,and medical ***,novel polymer materials with greater chemical intricacy and reduced dimensionality are used for various applications involving adsorbed proteins on their ***,the nature of protein-surface interactions to consider is becoming much more complicated than before.A large body of literature exists for protein ***,most of these investigations have focused on collectively measured,ensemble-averaged protein behaviors that occur on macroscale and chemically unvarying polymer surfaces instead of direct measurements at the single protein or sub-protein *** addition,interrogations of protein-polymer adsorption boundaries in these studies were typically carried out by indirect methods,whose insights may not be suitably applied for explaining individual protein adsorption processes occurring onto nanostructured,chemically varying polymer ***,an important gap in our knowledge still exists that needs to be systematically addressed via direct measurement means at the single protein and sub-protein *** efforts will require multifaceted experimental and theoretical approaches that can probe multilength scales of protein adsorption,while encompassing both single proteins and their collective ensemble behaviors at the length scale spanning from the nanoscopic all the way to the macroscopic *** this review,key research achievements in nanoscale protein adsorption to date will be ***,protein adsorption studies involving polymer surfaces with their defining feature dimensions and associated chemical partitions comparable to the size of individual proteins will be discussed in *** this regard,recent works bridging the crucial knowledge gap in protein adso

Effect of sintering temperature on the dielectric,ferroelectric and energy storage properties of SnO_(2)-doped Bi_(0.5)(Na_(0.8)K_(0.2))_(0.5)tiO_(3)lead-free ceramics

Sintered lead-free Bi_(0.5)(Na_(0.8)K_(0.2)t_(0.5)(ti0:96Sn0:04tO_(3)ceramics(BNKtS)have been fabricated via a solid-state *** effect of sintering temperature on the structural,morphological,dielectric,ferroelectric and energy storage properties of BNKtS ceramics was investigated,and it was found that the electrical properties of the synthesized ceramics increased with the increase in the sintering temperature,and the highest values were achieved at 1100℃.the ceramics sintered at the optimized temperature of 1100℃exhibited the best physical,dielectric,ferroelectric and energy storage properties,namely,high density(the relative density,ρ=5:88 ***^(-3),approximate to 96.7%of the theoretical value),high densification factor(DF=0:93),high dielectric constant(ε_(r)=1215),low dielectric loss(tanδ=0:051),highest dielectric constant(ε_(max)=4335),high remanent polarization(Pr=9:5μ***^(-2),high coercive field(E_(c)=14:3 kV/cm),high energy storage density(0.12 J/cm^(3),and high energy storage efficiency(41.7%at 46.3 kV/cm).

A Novel Method in Wood Identification Based on Anatomical Image Using Hybrid Model

Nowadays,wood identification is made by experts using hand lenses,wood atlases,and field manuals which take a lot of cost and time for the training *** quantity and species must be strictly set up,and accurate identification of the wood species must be made during exploitation to monitor trade and enforce regulations to stop illegal *** the development of science,wood identification should be supported with technology to enhance the perception of fairness of *** automatic wood identification system and a dataset of 50 commercial wood species from Asia are established,namely,wood anatomical images collected and used to train for the proposed *** the convolutional neural network(CNN),the last layers are usually soft-max functions with dense *** layers contain the most parameters that affect the speed *** reduce the number of parameters in the last layers of the CNN model and enhance the accuracy,the structure of the model should be optimized and ***,a hybrid of convolutional neural network and random forest model(CNN-RF model)is introduced to wood *** accuracy’s hybrid model is more than 98%,and the processing speed is 3 times higher than the CNN *** highest accuracy is 1.00 in some species,and the lowest is *** results show the excellent adaptability of the hybrid model in wood identification based on anatomical *** also facilitates further investigations of wood cells and has implications for wood science.
