Impedance Spectroscopy for Annealing-Induced Change of Molybdenum Oxide in Organic Photovoltaic Cell

Organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) have been investigated for a long time, and practical realizations have been also in progress due to their high photovoltaic performance over 12%. In this study, we fabricated normal OPVs and investigated the reason of an improved optical-to-electrical conversion efficiency by annealing the MoOx layer. The photoconversion efficiency was improved up to 5.65% from 2.05% after annealing at 160°C for 5 min, and the external quantum efficiency also increased for all the measurement wavelength ranging from 300 to 900 nm. Especially, the short circuit current density increased among photovoltaic parameters. The carrier transport resistance of photoactive layer was found to be reduced by evaluating the impedance measurement. These results indicate that defects at the MoOx/organic interface were successfully reduced by the thermal annealing process of MoOx layer. The efficient carrier transport was realized for the annealed-device, resulting in the high device performance. In addition, the relaxation and electron recombination times were also reduced by the annealing process, which lead to the improved photovoltaic performance.

Film-Forming Properties of Fullerene Derivatives in Electrospray Deposition Method

Thin films of three types of fullerene derivatives were prepared through the electrospray deposition (ESD) method. The optimized conditions for the fabrication of the thin films were investigated for different types of fullerene derivatives: [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester, [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester, and indene-C60-monoadduct. The spray diameter during the ESD process was observed as a function of the supply rate achieved by changing the applied voltage. In all cases, the spray diameter increased with increasing applied voltage, reaching the maximum diameter (Dmax) in the voltage range 4 to 6 kV. It was clear that Dmax was influenced by the dipole moments of the fullerene derivatives (as calculated by density functional theory methods). Scanning electron microscopy observation of the?fabricated thin films showed that imbricated structures were formed through the stacking of the fullerene-derivative sheets. Atomic force microscopy images revealed that the density of the imbricated structure was dependent on the spray diameter during the ESD process, and the root-mean-square roughness of the film surface decreased with increasing applied voltage. These findings suggest that the ESD method will be effective for the preparation of fullerene-derivative thin films for the production of organic devices.

Sintering Condition and Optical Properties of Zn3V2O8Phosphor

One of promising phosphors in vanadium oxide family, Zn3V2O8, was successfully synthesized by a solid state reaction of ZnO and V2O5. Characterization by XRD, photoluminescence (PL) and SEM was done for samples with different temperature and time in the sintering process. Residual percentage of secondary Zn2V2O7 phase, subsidiary ZnO and Zn4V2O9 phases was dependent on the sintering condition. The crystalline purity (CP) was defined by the integral intensity ratio of Zn3V2O8 phase and that of residual phases in XRD spectra, which showed a reasonable correspondence to the PL quantum yield (QY) of each sample. The highest QY exceeding 50% was obtained by the sintering condition of 750?C for 48 h. It turned out that the CP value is a good measure of high QY, which can be utilized for developing phosphor materials and controlling their processes.

Genetic Polymorphisms of Hepatic ABC-Transporter in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma

＜正＞ We have previously shown that the defense response against stressor was attenuated in prepro - orexin knockout mice and orexin neuron - ablated mice and proposed that orexin plays as a master switch to elicit multiple efferent pathways of the defense response. It is still open question,however,how information of stressor activates the orexinergic neurons. In this study,we examined possible contribution of the amygdala and bed nucleus of stria terminalis （BNST） as one of the afferent nuclei to activate orexinergic neurons. In urethane - anesthetized mice,a GABA- A receptor antagonist,bicuculline. was microinjected into the amygdala or BNST. of which electrical stimulation induced simultaneous increases in blood pressure,heart rate,and respiratory frequency. Bicuculline dose - de-pendently induced cardiorespiratory excitation in both orexin neuron - ablated mice and wild - type controls. However,dose - response curve was rightward shifted in the orexin neuron- ablated mice. We conclude that the amygdala and BNST constitute one of the afferent pathways to the orexinergic neurons that involved in the defense response against stressor.

We examined whether genetic polymorphisms of efflux transporters in hepatocytes are associated with susceptibility to develop hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Genetic polymorphisms of drug transporters expressed in hepatocytes were analyzed using DNA samples from hepatitis C virus (HCV)-seropositive cirrhotic patients with HCC (n = 58), and allele and haplotype frequencies were compared with those in healthy subjects (n = 61). To search for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in HCC susceptibility genes, 34 SNPs in 6 efflux transporters [MDR1 (ABCB1), ABCC1, ABCC2, ABCC3, ABCG2 and ABCB11] were determined. No significant association was observed for any single SNP;however, some haplotypes in ABCC1 and ABCB11 were associated with HCC. Furthermore, three combinations of SNPs (3435C > T in ABCB1 and 825T > C in ABCC1), (3435C > T in ABCB1 and -15281_-15278CTCT > delete in ABCB11), and (825T > C in ABCC1 and -15281_-15278CTCT > delete in ABCB11) were significantly associated with HCC. The present study suggests that genetic variations of ABC transporters such as ABCB1, ABCB11, and ABCC1 are associated with susceptibility to develop HCC, implying that aberrant hepatic clearance of toxic substances may increase the risk of hepatocarcinogenesis. Further studies of how these polymor-phisms are associated with phenotypic differences are warranted.
