Circulating tumor DNA dynamics analysis in a xenograft mouse model with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Wheat seed storage protein is of great importance for human food. To increase the contents of storage proteins effectively, nitrogen fertilizer at flowering stages is commonly applied. In our previous study, rice phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCase) activity in developing seeds was observed in response to nitrogen application at a flowering stage and was positively correlated to the response of the protein content in seeds of six cultivars. This observation might indicate that the seeds have a biological system for accepting nitrogen in seeds by using PEPCase. To test whether this physiological event occurs in wheat, we examined the PEPCase activity and protein content in field-grown wheat seeds under different nitrogen supply conditions. With only basal dressing, seeds showed lower PEPCase activity and protein content (both 0.90-fold) compared to seeds without basal fertilizer. With ammonium sulfate application at 8.3 and 25 g/m2 at a flowering stage, seeds showed higher PEPCase activity (1.08- and 1.17-fold, respectively) and protein content (1.15- and 1.42-fold, respectively), depending on the nitrogen level. We investigated the relationship between PEPCase activity and protein content in the seeds among four conditions. The effect of the nitrogen supply on PEPCase activity during grain-filling stages was validated by the results of a hydroponic culture experiment. Together the results demonstrate that our hypothesis seems to apply to field-grown wheat.

Infected Iliac Artery Aneurysm Concomitant with Liver Abscess Caused by Fusobacterium nucleatum

We report a case of infected iliac artery aneurysm concomitant with liver abscesses caused by Fusobacterium nucleatum. A 58-year-old man developed an aneurysm of the right common iliac artery and liver abscesses. The aneurysm was resected and a femoro-femoral crossover bypass with a knitted Dacron graft was performed for impending rupture. Anaerobic cultures obtained from blood and intramural thrombus were positive for Fusobacterium nucleatum. With antibiotics, the liver abscesses disappeared without drainage. Iliopsoas abscesses developed after surgery, but it was controlled with antibiotics. The patient was free of infection 1 year after the surgery. The causative bacterium was suspected to originate in the oral cavity, because the patient had a notable history of poor chronic periodontal conditions. Clinically, infected aortoiliac aneurysm complicated by Fusobacterium is extremely rare relative to the prevalence of the pathogenic bacterium. However, it is noteworthy that Fusobacterium can cause this condition.

Development of High Efficiency Swing Compressor for R32 Refrigerant

In the age of global warming, energy saving features and overall reduction of environmental impact are critical components that must be addressed when developing new HVAC （heating ventilation and air conditioning） units. We chose R32 refrigerant, with its lower LCCP （life cycle climate performance） as a more sustainable choice than R410A. However, R32 has its drawbacks. Due to its smaller molecular weight, internal leakage loss is higher for R32. Moreover, high discharge gas temperature decreases the reliability of the compressor, and makes a large overheating loss increase. In this study, we will describe the technologies （reducing the piston pressurizing force, heat-insulating structure, optimizing the port diameter） that were developed to overcome these drawbacks. We will also oresent the performance and reliability of the newly develoned high efficiency swing, comnressor series for R32 refrigerant.

Histopathological and Immunohistochemical Study of the Distinction between Oral Lichen Planus and Oral Lichenoid Lesions

Background: Oral potentially malignant disorders, which include oral lichen planus (OLP), are clinical presentations that carry a risk of development to cancer in the oral cavity. Oral lichenoid lesions (OLLs) are also termed interface/lichenoid mucositis. Malignant transformation of them remains controversial, but distinct clinical and histological criteria for how to differentiate OLP from OLLs have not been developed. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to elucidate findings that can allow histopathological differentiation of OLP and OLLs using histomorphological and immunohistochemical analyses. Materials and Methods: Analyses were performed in 10 cases diagnosed with OLP and 9 cases diagnosed with OLLs. Cytokeratin 19 (CK19), Ki-67 and CD3 were used as primary antibodies to detect basal cells, proliferative activity and T-cell distribution, respectively, and Perlecan and COX-2 to evaluate epithelial intracellular arrangements and interstitial distributions of proteoglycans and enzymes. Results: For CK19, positive cells were significantly found in OLLs at both the prominent area and site adjacent to the lesion comparison with those of OLP’s. The number of COX-2 positive cells was significantly higher in spinous and basal layers in OLLs of the prominent area. Additionally, OLLs showed mild to moderate expression for perlecan in the basal to spinous layers and in subepithelial tissue. Conclusion:

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of pegylated interferon α-2b(peg-IFNα-2b) plus ribavirin(RBV) therapy in Japanese patients with chronic hepatitis C(CHC) genotype Ib and a high viral ***:One hundred and twenty CHC patients(58.3% male) who received peg-IFNα-2b plus RBV therapy for 48 wk were *** virological response(SVR) and clinical parameters were ***:One hundred(83.3%) of 120 patients completed 48 wk of treatment.53 patients(44.3%) achieved *** virological response(EVR) and end of treatment response(ETR) rates were 50% and 73.3%,*** clinical parameters(SVR vs non-SVR) associated with SVR,ALT(108.4 IU/L vs 74.5 IU/L,P = 0.063),EVR(76.4% vs 16.4%,P 56 years),SVR in females was significantly lower than that in males(17% vs 50%,P = 0.0262).EVR and adherence to Peg-IFN were demonstrated to be the main factors associated with ***:Peg-IFNα-2b plus RBV combination therapy demonstrated good tolerability in Japanese patients with CHC and resulted in a SVR rate of 44.3%.Treatment of elderly female patients is still challenging and maintenance of adherence to peg-IFNα-2b is important in improving the SVR rate.
