AIM： To estimate whether S-TI571 inhibits the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） in the gastrointestinal stromal tumor （GIST） cells. METHODS： We used GIST cell line, GIST-T1. It has a heterogenic 57-bp deletion in exon 11 to produce a mutated c-KIT, which results in constitutive activation of c-KIT. Cells were treated with/without STI571 or stem cell factor （SCF）. Transcription and expression of VEGF were determined by RT-PCR and flow cytometry or Western blotting, respectively. Activated c-KIT was estimated by immunoprecipitation analysis. Cell viability was determined by PITT assay. RESULTS： Activation of c-KIT was inhibited by STI571 treatment. VEGF was suppressed at both the transcriptional and translational levels in a temporal and dose-dependent manner by STI571. SCF upregulated the expression of VEGF and it was inhibited by S-13571. STI571 also reduced the cell viability of the GIST-T1 cells, as determined by PTT assay. CONCLUSION： Activation of c-KIT in the GIST-T1 regulated the expression of VEGF and it was inhibited by ST571. STI571 has antitumor effects on the GIST cells with respect to not only the inhibition of cell growth, but also the suppression of VEGF expression.

Control System Design and Validation for Visual Based Indoor Inspection Helicopter

This paper is on control system design for visual based indoor inspection by the model helicopters. For the indoor inspection system for large structures, there are some cases where it is difficult for htunans to work with. This paper introduces indoor inspection helicopter system with only inspection camera and prism for position sensing as payload. The control system is designed to help the operator of the inspection system to control the helicopter to designated position without much practice. The cases of the control by experienced and novice operators are compared and results show that the system has feasibility for indoor inspection system to be used by any kind of users.

Chronic hepatobiliary inflammatory diseases are not widely acknowledged as underlying disorders of systemic AA amyloidosis,except epidemic *** them,primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) might initiate amyloid A protein deposition in diverse tissues,giving rise to systemic amyloidosis,due to a progressive and unresolved inflammatory process,and its possible association with inflammatory bowel ***,only one such case has been reported in the literature to *** report a 69-year-old Japanese woman with cirrhosis who was diagnosed with PSC complicated with systemic AA amyloidosis,without any evidence of other inflammatory *** a result of cholestasis in conjunction with biliary strictures and increased serum IgG4,the presence of IgG4 + plasma cells was examined systemically,resulting in unexpected documentation of Congo-red-positive amyloid deposits,but not IgG4 + plasma cells,in the liver,stomach and salivary *** serum IgG4 is the hallmark of IgG4-related disease,including IgG4-associated cholangitis,but it has also been demonstrated in certain patients with *** A deposits in multiple organs associated with an indolent clinical course that progresses over many years might have a diagnostic value in discriminating PSC from IgG4-associated cholangitis.

Reaction Rate Characteristics of SrBr₂ Hydration System for Chemical Heat Pump Cooling Mode

Here, we propose a chemical heat pump chiller with a SrBr2 hydration reaction system for utilization of waste heat. The SrBr2 hydration reaction could recover waste heat in low temperatures ranging from 373 K to 353 K, and the system showed good potential in terms of the high cooling thermal-storage density. Previous studies have given little information on the reaction characteristics of the SrBr2 hydration reaction. In this paper, we developed a measuring method for the hydration reaction equilibrium and reaction rate based on the volumetric method. We analyzed the hydration reaction rate with an unreacted-core shell model. In the experiments, the SrBr2 equilibrium temperature observed was equal to the theoretical equilibrium temperature obtained from thermodynamic databases. In addition, the hysteresis gap between the hydration and dehydration values was 2.0 K. Thus, the hysteresis effect was negligible for the chemical heat pump cooling operation. The reaction fraction of the SrBr2 hydration reached 0.7 within 20 s. By analyzing the hydration reaction rate with the unreacted-core shell model, the activation energy value was calculated to be56.6 kJ/mol. The calculation results showed good agreement with those of the experiment as the reaction fraction reached 0.7.

Evaluation of SrBr₂ Hydration Reaction Rate with Repeated Cycling

In this study, we evaluated the SrBr2 hydration reaction rate on repeated cycling. It was estimated that hydrated SrBr2 particles were expanded by hydration and condensed to form secondary particles;thus, the hydration reaction was reduced by repeated cycles. Using volumetric methods, we examined the effect of repetition on the reaction rate for 900 cycles during hydration and dehydration and analyzed the reaction rate using the unreacted core-shell model. From the experimental and calculated results, we confirmed that reaction rate decreased and the sample particles formed secondary particles after 900 repeated cycles. By analyzing the unreacted core-shell model, we found that the coefficient of H2O diffusion in the particles exponentially decreased with increasing repeated cycles. The value of the diffusion coefficient after 900 cycles was five times lower than that of the first cycle. To achieve stable repeated hydration cycles, technology to control the formation of secondary particles must be investigated.

Autopsy study of anatomical features of the posterior gastric artery for surgical contribution

AIM： To investigate features of the posterior gastric arten/（PGA） with respect to incidence, location and size by using autopsy subjects. METHODS： Autopsies were performed on 72 cadavers of adults with no history of abdominal operations. The localization of the PGA, the distance between the root of the splenic artery and the origin of the PGA, and the external diameter of the PGA were examined. RESULTS： The PGA was recognized in all patients. In 70 （97.2%） cadavers, the PGA branched from the splenic artery, and one female in this group had two PGAs. In 1 （1.4%） patient, the PGA originated from the root of the celiac trunk and in another （1.4%） patient, the PGA branched from the superior polar artery. Overall, the PGA extended for a length of 5.8-12.2 （mean, 8.4） cm from the root of the splenic artery, and the external diameter of the PGA was 1.2-3.2 （mean, 2） mm. CONCLUSION： The anatomical features of the PGA can be readily observed and characterized by autopsy. This study has provided valuable information on the features of the PGA useful in the planning of surgical treatment.

Benefits of early postoperative jejunal feeding in patients undergoing duodenohemipancreatectomy

AIM： To study whether early postoperative enteral nutrition reduces the incidence of complications and/or improves nutritional status following duodenohernipancre atectomy （DHP）. METHODS： We studied 39 patients who underwent DHP for a peri-ampullary mass. Twenty-three patients received total parental nutrition and then started to have an oral intake of nutrition between postoperative day （POD） 7 and 14 [late postoperative enteral nutrition （LPEN） group]. Sixteen patients started to have enteral feeding through a jejunostomy catheter the day after the operation [early postoperative enteral nutrition （EPEN） group]. The incidence of complications and laboratory data at the early postoperative stage were studied in comparison between LPEN and EPEN groups. RESULTS： Serum levels of albumin and total protein in the EPEN group were significantly higher than those in the LPEN group. The loss of body mass index was significantly suppressed in the EPEN group as compared to the LPEN group. The lymphocyte count decreased immediately after the operation was restored significantly faster in the EPEN group than in the LPEN group. The EPEN group showed significantly fewer incidences of postoperative pancreatic fistulas, as well as a significantly shorter length of hospitalization than the LPEN group. There were no significant differences in the incidences of other postoperative complications between the two groups, such as delayed gastric emptying, surgical site infection, cholangitis, and small bowel ***： EPEN is a safe and beneficiaopportunity for patients who have undergone DHP for a peri-ampullary mass.

In-vitro proliferation assay with recycled ascitic cancer cells in malignant pleural mesothelioma: A case report

BACKGROUND We report the first case,to the best of our knowledge,of massive ascites due to recurrent malignant pleural mesothelioma that was controlled using KM-cell-free and concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy(KM-CART).The tumor cells derived via KM-CART were utilized secondarily in an in vitro cell growth assay using the collagen gel droplet-embedded culture drug sensitivity test(CD-DST)to investigate anticancer drug *** SUMMARY A 56-year-old man presented with recurrent malignant mesothelioma with massive ascites;more than 4000 mL of ascitic fluid was removed,filtered,and concentrated using KM-CART,and the cell-free ascitic fluid was reinfused into the patient to improve quality of *** cells isolated secondarily in an in vitro proliferation assay using CD-DST exhibited low sensitivity to pemetrexed and high sensitivity to *** with gemcitabine maintained stable disease for 4 *** The combination of KM-CART and CD-DST may be a promising treatment option for malignant ascites associated with malignant mesothelioma.

Clinicopathological characteristics of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive Barrett's adenocarcinoma

AIM:To compare the clinicopathological characteristics of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive and HER2-negative Barrett's adenocarcinoma in Japan. METHODS:We performed immunohistochemical analysis of HER2 in 30 samples taken from patients with Barrett's adenocarcinoma and dual color in situ hybridization in cases showing 2+ reactions. We compared the clinicopathological characteristics of HER2-positive and HER2-negative ***:HER2 positivity was identified in 8 (27%) carcinoma samples. We found that HER2 expression was associated with p53 overexpression (100% vs 52.6% in pT1 tumor; 100% vs 54.5% in all stage tumor, P < 0.05) and protruding lesions at the early disease stage. There was no association between the mucin phenotype of the carcinomas and prognosis. HER2 expression and low clinical stage were unexpectedly different between Barrett's adenocarcinoma patients and gastric cancer patients, but the macroscopic features may be associated with earlier diagnosis in these patients. CONCLUSION:Our results suggest that HER2-positive Barrett's adenocarcinomas are associated with p53 overexpression and lesion protrusion at the early disease stage.
