Using a qualitative case study approach,the authors analyzed the curriculum adaptation process for one project learning activity in School k,which is a SID school in the context of school-university *** sources of data were collected for triangulation,including interviews,documents and *** adaptation strategies in this study were analyzed from five perspectives:instructional goals,instructional content,instructional strategies,instructional settings,and student behavioral *** was found that curriculum adaptation efforts could help students with ID develop potential at their own level through project learning activates and teachers could also gain professional development during the university-school collaboration *** for future studies,enlarging the sample size,involving teachers’past orientations and motivations in the project learning process,and collecting quantitative data could all be taken into account.

Docetaxel is a commonly-used anti-cancer chemotherapeutic agent given its efficacy in a large variety of solid tumors. It is associated with various adverse effects one of which is nail toxicity. We report a case of severe onycholysis as a result of treatment with docetaxel in a patient who suffered from metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The case report will be followed by a discussion on the possible mechanism and preventive strategies for taxane-induced nail toxicity.

Endometriosis is a common chronic gynecological disease with endometrial cell implantation outside the *** is a major pathophysiology in *** previous studies have demonstrated that the prodrug of epigallocatechin gallate(ProEGCG)exhibits superior anti-endometriotic and anti-angiogenic effects compared to epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG).However,their direct binding targets and underlying mechanisms for the differential effects remain *** this study,we demonstrated that oral ProEGCG can be effective in preventing and treating ***,1D and 2D Proteome Integral Solubility Alteration assay-based chemical proteomics identified metadherin(MTDH)and PX domain containing serine/threonine kinase-like(PXk)as novel binding targets of EGCG and ProEGCG,*** simulation and BioLayer interferometry were used to confirm their binding *** results showed that MTDH-EGCG inhibited protein kinase B(Akt)-mediated angiogenesis,while PXk-ProEGCG inhibited epidermal growth factor(EGF)-mediated angiogenesis via the EGF/hypoxia-inducible factor(HIF-1a)/vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)*** vitro and in vivo knockdown assays and microvascular network imaging further confirmed the involvement of these signaling ***,our study demonstrated that ProEGCG has superior therapeutic effects than EGCG by targeting distinct signal transduction pathways and may act as a novel antiangiogenic therapy for endometriosis.

PHOX2B mutations in three chinese patients with congenital central hypoventilation syndrome

Introduction and Objective: There is increase recognition of the role of various parameters measured by non-contrast computerized tomogram (NCCT) in predicting treatment outcomes of urinary stone by shockwave lithotripsy (SWL). In our previous analysis, a clinical algorithm, based on stone volume (SV), mean stone density (MSD) and skin-to-stone distance (SSD), was formulated. (J Urol 2007;177 supp: A1316) Therefore, we would like to use our subsequent patients to validate the usefulness of this algorithm. Methods: After our first part of study, a further prospective collection of data from patients diagnosed to have solitary upper ureteral stone by NCCT and received primary SWL was performed. The primary outcome was the stone free rate at 3-month after one session of SWL by Sonolith 4000+. Pre-treatment NCCT were reviewed by a single radiologist with SV, MSD and SSD measured. These patient parameters were then applied into our algorithm to assess its validity in predicting treatment outcome. Results: 37 patients (24 males and 13 females) were recruited. The overall stone free rate was 45.9%. By applying the algorithms, for patients with either SV ≤ 0.2cc or MSD ≤600 or SDep ≤ 85mm, the stone free rate was 52.2% (95% CI 31.7%, 72.7%). For those patients without any favourable factors, the stone free rate was 35.7% (95% CI 10.6%, 60.8%). Although the difference was not statistically significant, a trend of difference can still be observed in this small sample. Conclusions: Clinical algorithm based on the measurement of stone volume, mean stone density and skin to stone distance from NCCT can help to predict the treatment outcome of SWL in upper ureteral stone.

Congenital central hypoventilation syndrome （CCHS, OMIM #209880） is a rare autosomal dominant disorder of the autonomic nervous system （ANS） characterized by an abnormal autonomic ventilatory response to progressive hypercarbia and sustained hypoxemia. Patients typically present in the newborn period with hypoventilation or apnea asleep, awake, or both, without any associated cardiac, pulmonary, neuromuscular or brainstem lesions. Rarely, some patients may present at a later age and are diagnosed to have late onset central hypoventilation syndrome （LOCHS）.1 Other features of ANS dysfunction such as feeding difficulty due to oesophageal dysmotility, severe constipation in the absence of Hirschsprung disease, poor regulation of basal body temperature, episodes of profuse sweating, pupillary and ocular abnormalities, decreased beat-to-beat variability of heart rate, attenuated response of heart rate to exercise, abnormal fluctuation of blood pressure, decreased perception to pain, and decreased perception to anxiety may be variably present but not essential for diagnosis Furthermore, this central hypoventilation can occur as an isolated feature or in association with a number of neurocristopathies, notably Hirschsprung disease （Haddad syndrome, OMIM #209880） and tumours of the sympathetic nervous system particularly neuroblastoma, ganglioneuro- blastoma, and ganglioneuroma, which were found in 20% and 5%--10% of CCHS patients, respectively.2 Studies of genes pertinent to the early embryologic development of the neural crest cells, specifically the endothelin and the RET-GDNF signaling pathways, have recently led to the identification of PHOX2B as the major disease causing gene for CCHS.2-6 PHOX2B was mapped to chromosome 4p12 and consists of 3 exons. It encodes a highly conserved paired-like homeobox transcription factor of 314 amino acids linked to the RET-GDNF signaling

We report a 32 year-old chinese lady with history of tetralogy of Fallot, presented to us with chest pain due to hypocalcemia secondary to hypoparathyroidism. With her dysmerphic facial features and intellectual disability 22q11.2 deletion was suspected and confirmed by genetic study. Clinicians should consider the diagnosis of DiGeorge syndrome in adult patient with past medical history of congenital heart disease, facial dysmorphism, intellectual disability and primary hypoparathyroidism.
