Changes in endoscopic patterns before and during COVID-19 outbreak:Experience at a single tertiary center in Korean

BACKGROUND The surge of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients has markedly influenced the treatment policies of tertiary hospitals because of the need to protect medical staff and contain viral transmission,but the impact COVID-19 had on emergency gastrointestinal endoscopies has not been *** To compare endoscopic activities and analyze the clinical outcomes of emergency endoscopies performed before and during the COVID-19 outbreak in Daegu,the worst-hit region in South *** This retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients aged≥18 years that underwent endoscopy from February 18 to March 28,2020,at a tertiary hospital in ***,laboratory findings,types and causes of emergency endoscopies,and endoscopic reports were reviewed and compared with those obtained for the same period in 2018 and *** From February 18 to March 28,a total of 366 emergent endoscopic procedures were performed:Upper endoscopy(170,50.6%),endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(113,33.6%),and colonoscopy with sigmoidoscopy(53,15.8%).The numbers of procedures performed in 2018 and 2019 dropped by 48.8%and 54.8%,respectively,compared with those in *** the COVID-19 outbreak,the main indications for endoscopy were melena(36.7%),hematemesis(30.6%),and hematochezia(10.2%).Of the endoscopic abnormalities detected,gastrointestinal bleeding was the most common:39 cases in 2018,51 in 2019,and 35 in *** The impact of COVID-19 is substantial and caused dramatic reductions in endoscopic procedures and changes in patient ***-term follow-up studies are required to determine the effects of COVID-19 induced changes in the endoscopy field.

Deposition and Characterization of (Ba, Sr)RuO3 Oxide Electrode Using TMHD-Based Single Cocktail Source

(Ba, Sr)RuO3 has been paid an attention as a promising electrode for (Ba, Sr)TiO3 dielectric material due to its similarity in structure and chemical composition with BST. In this study, (Ba, Sr)RuO3 conductive oxide film was deposited on a 4 inch p-type Si wafer by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using single cocktail source for the practical device application. Ba(TMHD)2, Sr(TMHD)2, Ru(TMHD)3 precursors and solvent [1-EtylePiPerdine (C7H15 N) ] as starting materials were mixed together for single cocktail source. A liquid delivery system (LDS) and a vaporization cell were utilized for the delivery and vaporization of single cocktail source, respectively. The source feeding rate was controlled by a liquid mass flow controller (LMFC). Deposition parameters, such as the oxygen flow and the source flow rate,were sensitive to phase formation, resistivity and the composition ratio of (Ba, Sr)RuO3 films. Highly (110)-textured (Ba,Sr)RuO3 film was obtained vhen the Ar/O2 ratio was 200/140 sccm at a source flow rate of 0.05 sccm. The process window of stoichiometric composition of BSR film was observed with varying the source flow rate from 0.05 sccm to 0.1 sccm.

Measured Performance and Analysis of the Residual Settlement of a PVD-Improved Marine Soft Ground

Prefabricated vertical drains(PVDs)are commonly used to shorten the drainage path for consolidation as part of the improvement of marine soft *** studies that focus on the primary consolidation settlement of PVD-improved soft ground have been conducted;however,residual settlement has been scarcely *** settlement is the net effect of secondary compression and the remaining primary consolidation and generally occurs while the facilities are *** this study,residual settlement was investigated using the measured field settlement data obtained from the surface settlement plate and multilayer settlement *** study determined that PVD still has some effect on residual settlement and can reduce the settlement *** settlement is only related to the PVD-improved soil layer and only occurs significantly in the middle zone of that layer over a few *** middle zone may be related to the time delay of excess pore water pressure *** study concluded that the remaining primary consolidation in the PVD-improved soil layer is the primary cause of residual settlement,whereas secondary compression in the PVD-improved soil layer is only a minor cause.

Low survival rate occurs in patients who initially experience a spontaneous return of circulation after cardiac arrest（CA）. In this study, we induced asphyxial CA in adult male Sprague-Daley rats, maintained their body temperature at 37 ± 0.5°C, and then observed the survival rate during the post-resuscitation phase. We examined neuronal damage in the hippocampus using cresyl violet（CV） and Fluore-Jade B（F-J B） staining, and pro-inflammatory response using ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1（Iba-1）, glial fibrillary acidic protein（GFAP）, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha（TNF-α） immunohistochemistry in the hippocampus after asphyxial CA in rats under normothermia. Our results show that the survival rate decreased gradually post-CA（about 63% at 6 hours, 37% at 1 day, and 8% at 2 days post-CA）. Rats were sacrificed at these points in time post-CA, and no neuronal damage was found in the hippocampus until 1 day post-CA. However, some neurons in the stratum pyramidale of the CA region in the hippocampus were dead 2 days post-CA. Iba-1 immunoreactive microglia in the CA1 region did not change until 1 day postCA, and they were activated（enlarged cell bodies with short and thicken processes） in all layers 2 days postCA. Meanwhile, GFAP-immunoreactive astrocytes did not change significantly until 2 days post-CA. TNF-α immunoreactivity decreased significantly in neurons of the stratum pyramidale in the CA1 region 6 hours post-CA, decreased gradually until 1 day post-CA, and increased significantly again 2 days post-CA. These findings suggest that low survival rate of normothermic rats in the early period of asphyxia-induced CA is related to increased TNF-α immunoreactivity, but not to neuronal damage in the hippocampal CA1 region.

Limited endoscopic sphincterotomy plus large balloon dilation for choledocholithiasis with periampullary diverticula

AIM: To investigate the effectiveness and safety of limited endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) plus large balloon dilation (LBD) for removing choledocholithiasis in patients with periampullary diverticula (PAD). METHODS: A total of 139 patients with common bile duct (CBD) stones were treated with LBD (10-20 mm balloon diameter) after limited EST. Of this total, 73 patients had PAD and 66 patients did not have PAD (controls). The results of stone removal and complications were retrospectively evaluated. RESULTS: There were no significant differences between the PAD and the control groups in overall successful stone removal (94.5% vs 93.9%), stone removal in first session (69.9% vs 81.8%), mechanical lithotripsy (12.3% vs 13.6%), and complications (11.0% vs 7.6%). Clinical outcomes were also similar between the types of PAD, but the rate of stone removal in first session and the number of sessions were significantly lower and more frequent, respectively, in type B PAD (papilla located near the diverticulum) than controls [23/38 (60.5%) vs 54/66 (81.8%), P = 0.021; and 1 (1-2) vs 1 (1-3), P = 0.037, respectively] and the frequency of pancreatitis was significantly higher in type A PAD (papilla located inside or in the margin of the diverticulum) than in controls (16.1% vs 3.0%, P = 0.047). CONCLUSION: Limited EST plus LBD was an effective and safe procedure for removing choledocholithiasis in patients with PAD. However, some types of PAD should be managed with caution.

Optimal concentration of mesenchymal stem cells for fracture healing in a rat model with long bone fracture

BACKGROUND There is still no consensus on which concentration of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)to use for promoting fracture healing in a rat model of long bone *** To assess the optimal concentration of MSCs for promoting fracture healing in a rat *** Wistar rats were divided into four groups according to MSC concentrations:Normal saline(C),2.5×10^(6)(L),5.0×10^(6)(M),and 10.0×10^(6)(H)*** MSCs were injected directly into the fracture *** rats were sacrificed at 2 and 6 wk *** bone formation[bone volume(BV)and percentage BV(PBV)]was evaluated using micro-computed tomography(CT).Histological analysis was performed to evaluate fracture healing *** protein expression of factors related to MSC migration[stromal cell-derived factor 1(SDF-1),transforming growth factor-beta 1(TGF-β1)]and angiogenesis[vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)]was evaluated using western blot *** expression of cytokines associated with osteogenesis[bone morphogenetic protein-2(BMP-2),TGF-β1 and VEGF]was evaluated using real-time polymerase chain *** Micro-CT showed that BV and PBV was significantly increased in groups M and H compared to that in group C at 6 wk post-fracture(P=0.040,P=0.009;P=0.004,P=0.001,respectively).Significantly more cartilaginous tissue and immature bone were formed in groups M and H than in group C at 2 and 6 wk post-fracture(P=0.018,P=0.010;P=0.032,P=0.050,respectively).At 2 wk post fracture,SDF-1,TGF-β1 and VEGF expression were significantly higher in groups M and H than in group L(P=0.031,P=0.014;P<0.001,P<0.001;P=0.025,P<0.001,respectively).BMP-2 and VEGF expression were significantly higher in groups M and H than in group C at 6 wk postfracture(P=0.037,P=0.038;P=0.021,P=0.010).Compared to group L,TGF-β1 expression was significantly higher in groups H(P=0.016).There were no significant differences in expression levels of chemokines related to MSC migration,angiogenesis and cytokines associated

Ni—SiC—h/BN composite materials were prepared by electrodeposition technique with the dispersion of SiC（10 g/L） and h/BN nanosheets（10 g/L） in a nickel sulfamate electrolytic *** ratio of sodium dodecyl sulfate（SDS） and cetyltrymethyl ammonium bromide（CTAB） surfactants were used to evaluate the effect of surfactants on the properties of the electrodeposited composite *** coating samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,Vickers microhardness test,scratch and tribology *** results revealed that the co-deposition of nanoparticles was significantly influenced by surfactants during electrodeposition *** or polyhedral nickel crystallites were observed at higher ratio of SDS/CTAB while smaller oval grains with refined surface morphologies were obtained at lower ratio of SDS/CTAB *** addition,wt%of particles co-deposition was increased,and Vickers microhardness,wear and coefficient of friction of the electrodeposited composite coatings were improved at increased CTAB and decreased SDS contents in the electrolyte during electrodeposition process.
