Fabrication of Sintered Diamond/Metal Composites and Evaluation of Grinding Performance for Sapphire

The fabrication of sintered diamond/metal composites bodies composed of diamond filler with the average particle size of 15 μm to 30 μm and metal binder (Ag-Cu-Ti system brazing) was attempted by powder metallurgical sintering process at 700℃ to 1000?C in vacuum atmosphere. As a result, dense bulks of sintered diamond/metal composites were obtained by this powder metallurgical sintering process. The increase of sintering temperatures from 750℃ to 950℃ and of pressure enhanced the density of sintered diamond/metal composites during the hot-pressing in vacuum. All bulks prepared at the temperatures of 750?C to 950℃ were composed of diamond phase and Ag-Cu-Ti system brazing without any other phase for sintered bulks for diamond/metal composites. Furthermore, some properties were evaluated for sintered diamond/metal composites.

低温胁迫和氮素营养对番茄畸形果发生的影响

研究表明，番茄幼苗生长点的碳、氮水平因氮肥的多寡而异，且经低温胁迫之后变化急剧。氮素较多（４～８ｍｍｏｌ／Ｌ）和低温胁迫（３～８℃），产生畸形果３０％左右。氮素较多加之较低温度胁迫（３～５℃），会显著加重畸形程度，畸形果病情指数达１７．５％以上；低氮（２ｍｍｏｌ／Ｌ）低温胁迫时，产生椭圆果和链斑果较多，合计达到８８．７％～９０．６％；中氮（４ｍｍｏｌ／Ｌ）或高氮（８ｍｍｏｌ／Ｌ）低温胁迫时，产生窗孔果、顶裂果的比率增大。不同类型的畸形果单果重差异明显。

Surgical outcome comparisons of multifocal IOLs of Lentis Comfort LS-313 MF15 and Tecnis Eyhance DIB00V

AIM:To compare the surgical outcomes of a multifocal intraocular lens(IOL;Lentis Comfort LS-313 MF15)with those of an enhanced monofocal IOL(Tecnis Eyhance DIB00V).METHODS:This retrospective study included patients who underwent cataract surgery with LS-313 MF15 or Eyhance IOL *** regarding patient demographics,surgical records,and ophthalmic examination before the cataract surgery and one and three months postoperatively were *** acuities,refractive values,defocus curves,contrast sensitivities and subjective symptoms were ***:Among the 71 eyes(47 patients)included in this study,32 eyes(20 patients)underwent LS-313 MF15 IOL implantation,and 39 eyes(27 patients)underwent Eyhance IOL *** significant differences were observed in age,axial length,or refractive error between the two groups ***,the distancecorrected and uncorrected distance visual acuities one month postoperatively did not differ between the groups,and both groups had sufficient visual acuities at the distances of 5,1 m,70,50,and 30 *** ophthalmic data,including subjective symptoms based on the 14-item Visual Function Index Questionnaire,monocular defocus curves,contrast sensitivities,and halo and glare,did not differ between the groups three months ***,both groups had good *** spherical equivalent one month postoperatively was significantly myopic in the LS-313 MF15 group compared with that in the Eyhance group(P=0.033);however,this difference was not observed three months postoperatively(P=0.471).CONCLUSION:Comparison of the surgical outcomes of LS-313 MF15 with those of Eyhance with different optical properties reveal that both IOLs show good postoperative outcomes,with no significant differences being noted between the two IOLs.

Antimicrobial Effects of Gatifloxacin on Canine Periodontopathic Bacteria In Vitro

The aim of this study was to identify the potential antibacterial effects of gatifloxacin on one of canine periodontal pathogens, Porphyromonas gulae. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of gatifloxacin and its bactericidal effects were investigated. Gatifloxacin inhibited the growth of the canine periodontopathic bacteria tested in broth. An MIC of 50 nM was found to be effective in inhibiting P. gulae. On performing adenosine triphosphate bioluminescence assay, gatifloxacin was found to exhibit bactericidal effects on the tested bacteria in a concentration-dependent manner. The safety of gatifloxacin in mammalian cells was evaluated by assessing the viability of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem (BMMS) cells treated with gatifloxacin. Almost over 80% of BMMS cells survived after a 3-day culture when treated with 100 nM of gatifloxacin. These results indicate that locally administered gatifloxacin has the potential for being used to prevent canine periodontal infection.

Debridement Effect on Periodontal Pathogen <i>Porphyromonas gingivalis</i>Cultured on Titanium by Application of Atmospheric-Pressure Plasma

The debridement treatments of dental implants are very important in long-term maintenance after implant placement in a patient. Deposition of periodontal pathogens around the implant surface has a high risk of causing periimplantitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the extent of elimination of Porphyromonas gingivalis, known as representative periodontopathic bacteria, from titanium, which has been the main material used for dental implants. Assuming that the debridement processing of dental implants removes periodontal bacteria, one of the methods for removing bacteria deposited on titanium is considered to be plasma irradiation. Irradiation with atmospheric-pressure plasma was carried out against periodontopathic bacteria cultured and deposited on the surface of a titanium disk. After the plasma irradiation, the reduction of the number of bacteria re-cultured for 24 hours was evaluated. The number of viable bacteria on the titanium surface was estimated by an ATP-bioluminescent assay. Viable cells after the plasma irradiation were reduced to 1.5% or less compared to the untreated group. As one of the methods of debridement in general dental treatments, atmospheric-pressure plasma has proved to be an effective method to remove adverse prognostic factors in dental patients.
