In this study,we reported on the concept and practical use of cation exchange resin(CER)for removing anions in water via pretreating the CER with metal *** cation exchange resinsupported iron and magnesium oxides/hydroxides composite(FeMg/CER)was synthesized and introduced as a new and potential adsorbent for selective removal of nitrate ion in the water *** of FeMg/CER were determined by techniques such as Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and Xray *** results showed that FeMg/CER material had a high nitrate adsorption capacity of 200 mg NO_(3)^()·g^(1)with a fast equilibrium adsorption time of 30 min at pH *** addition,it had good durability of at least 10 times of regeneration,which could be applied to practical water and wastewater treatment.

baCKGROUND Sulongga-4(SL-4)is a herbal formula used in traditional Mongolian medical clinics for the treatment of peptic ulcers and gastroenteritis,even though its pharmacological mechanism has not been well *** To evaluate the protective effect and identify the mechanisms of action of SL-4 on gastroduodenal ulcer induced by pyloric ligation(PL)in *** PL was performed to induce gastric and duodenal ulcers in rats,which were then treated with oral SL-4(1.3,2.6,or 3.9 g/kg per day)for 15 ***-induced gastroduodenal *** effects were characterized by pathological and histological evaluations and inflammatory indicators were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** analyses were conducted to identify gene expression profiles of gastroduodenal tissue in PL rats with or without SL-4 *** candidate target genes were selected and verified by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR).RESULTS SL-4 decreased histopathological features in the PL-induced ulcerated ***-4 significantly (P taglandin E2 and epidermal growth factor in ulcer tissue. Microarray analysiswas used to identify a panel of candidate target genes for SL-4 acting on PLinducedulceration. Genes included some complement and coagulation cascadeand retinol metabolism pathways that are closely associated with inflammatoryresponses and gastric mucosal protective mechanisms. qRT-PCR showed thataltered expression of the selected genes, such as CYP2b2, UGT2b1, A2m, andMASP1 was consistent with the microarray ***-4 exerts protective effects against PL-induced gastroduodenal ulcers viareducing inflammatory cytokines and elevating expression of gastric acidinhibitory factors. Outcome after Discharge from Hospital of Children with Complicated Severe Acute Malnutrition and Predictors Factors of Non-Response during Outpatient Treatment, in Senegal

Introduction: Malnutrition is a public health problem. It is responsible for high morbidity and mortality in children aged 6 - 59 months. The aim of this study was to determine the outcome of children with complicated severe acute malnutrition after hospital discharge. Methods: This is a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study conducted from March 1 to November 31, 2021 at the Albert Royer Children’s Hospital. Children discharged from hospital for complicated severe acute malnutrition were included. Results: A total of 103 children were included. The mean age of children at hospitalization was 16.41 ± 10.11 months and mean duration of follow-up after hospital discharge was 29.63 ± 8.59 months. Three children (2.91%) died after hospital discharge. The mean z-score of the weight-for-current height was -1.34 ± 1.08. Almost a quarter (24.27%) of the children remain acute malnourished with 3.88% of severe acute malnutrition (SAM). The predictors’ factors associated with non-response were weaning before 2 years of age (ORaj: 12.21;95% CI [6.82 - 18.44];p = 0.04) and tuberculosis (ORaj: 21.06;95% CI [12.54 - 41.09];p = 0.03). Conclusion: The rate of recovery of nutritional status in children with complicated severe acute malnutrition is satisfactory. Ablactation before the age of two and the existence of tuberculosis are significantly associated with non-recovery of nutritional status.

Prevalence and Clinical Characteristics of Chronic Constipation in Senegalese Children

Introduction: Constipation is the infrequent emission of hard stools. It is common, most often of functional origin, with a prevalence ranging from 0.7% to 29.6%. The aim of our study was to investigate the prevalence of constipation in children undergoing paediatric gastroenterology. Methodology: This was a bi-centric retrospective study carried out at the Albert Royer Children’s Hospital and the Dalal Jamm Hospital Pediatrics Department. Children followed in the pediatric gastroenterology consultation during the period from January 1, 2013 to February 29, 2020 were included. Results: A total of 337 children (205 boys;60.83%) were included, representing a prevalence of 25%. The median age was 3 years 6 months. The 13 - 24 months age group was the most frequent (27.6%). Rare stools were the main reason for consultation (92.8%). Rare stools were noted in 92.88% of cases. Bristol types 1 and 2 accounted for 6.53% and 54.60% respectively. The main associated signs were abdominal pain (29.4%), followed by abdominal bloating (20.96%). Abdominal pain was functional in 73.58% of cases. Under treatment, 90.19% of children had a favorable outcome. Conclusion: Constipation is common in Senegalese children with a prevalence close to that reported in Western countries. In most case, it is functional with good prognostic.

Epidemiological Profile of Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease in the “B” Surgery Department of Point G University Hospital, before the Advent of Extracorporeal Circulation

Aim: Evaluate the epidemiological profile of cyanotic congenital heart disease in Mali before the advent of extracorporeal circulation in the “B” Surgery Department at the Pont G University Hospital. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study that took place from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2017. The records of patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease in the “B” surgery department of Point G University Hospital were collected. Patients operated on for cyanotic congenital heart disease were included in this study. Non-operated patients were not included. Results: The records of 17 patients operated on for cyanotic congenital heart disease were retained. The average age of patients at the time of surgery was 5.18 years with extremes of 2 and 18 years. Boys were in the majority with 59%, i.e. a sex ratio of 1.42. Patients resided in bamako in 82% of cases. Inbreeding was found in 35.3%. Eighty-eight percent of children were born at term and 94% had up-to-date vaccination status. The average duration of patient follow-up between diagnosis and surgical management was 5 years with extremes of 2 years and 12 years. Tetralogy of Fallot regular form was the most represented heart disease. Conclusion: Cyanogenic congenital heart disease remains the most frequent congenital pathologies in our country. They most often affect male children. Consanguinity is the most common etiological factor found. Tetralogy of Fallot regular form remains the most common.

Effect of Annealing Temperature on Magnetic Aftereffect and Positron Lifetime in Fe_(73.5)Cu_1Nb_3Si_(13.5)B_9 Alloy

The magnetic aftereffect (MAE) and the positron lifetime were measured at room temperature on the Fe_73.5Cu_1 Nb_3Si_13.5 B_9 alloy in as-cast and after annealing at temperature T_a in the range from 450 to 750℃ It was found that both the MAE and the positron lifetime decrease with increasing T_a when T_≤600℃. While ta≥650℃, MAE is essentially suppressed, and two positron lifetimes appear.

HIV Infection in Senegalese Prisons: Prevalence and Associated Factors

HIV/AIDS is a serious health problem among prisoners and constitutes a big challenge for prison administration services, public health services and governments. Aims: Determine the prevalence of HIV infection among prisoners and describe associated factors. Population and Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study conducted from December 2015 to October 2016. A sample of 600 prisoners was randomly interviewed nationwide. They were selected directly from the sample frame from across the country and proportionally from all sites. Pre-established questionnaires providing information on the sociodemographic and biological characteristics of prisoners were used for the collection of data. Data entry and analysis were performed using EXCEL and SPSS 18 software. Results: The survey was based on a randomised sample of 600 prisoners, 593 of whom accepted blood extraction for the HIV testing. The series was mainly composed of males (89%). The median age was 33 years (18 - 69). The level of education among respondents was 60%. Regarding marital status, the proportion of married prisoners was 51.8%. Almost three-quarters (71.5%) were at their first imprisonment and 51.8% were on preventive detention. The reasons for imprisonment varied and were dominated by drug use (35.3%), while only 4.6% confessed that they continued using drugs while in prison. 97.8% of prisoners have had a sexual experience. Fabrication and analysis of TIG welding-brazing butt joints of in-situ Tib2/7050 composite and ta2

Lightweight hybrid structures of Al MMCs and titanium alloy dissimilar materials have great prospect in the defence industry application. So, it is necessary to join Al MMCs with Ti metal to achieve this structural design. In this work, in-situ Ti B_(2)/7050 composite and ta2 were firstly attempted to join by TIG welding-brazing technique. The result was that the intact welding-brazing butt joint was successfully fabricated. The joint presents dual characteristics, being a brazing on ta2 side and a welding on Ti B_(2)/7050 side. At brazing joint side, ER4043 filler metal effectively wets on ta2 under TIG heating condition,and a continuous interfacial reaction layer with 1 e3 mm is formed at welded metal/ta2 interface. The whole interfacial reaction layers are composed of Ti(Al Si)3 intermetallic compounds(IMCs), but their morphologies at the different regions present obvious distinguishes. The microhardness of the reaction layers is as much as 141 e190 HV. At welding joints side, the fusion zone appears the equixaed crystal structure, and the grain sizes are much smaller than those of welded metal, which is attributed to the effect of Ti B2 particulates from the melted Ti B_(2)/7050 on acceleration formation and inhibiting growth for the new crystal nucleus. The tensile test results show that average tensile strength of the optimal welding-brazing joint is able to achieve 138 MPa. The failure of the tensile joint occurs by quasi-cleavage pattern, and the cracks initiate from the IMCs layer at the groove surface of ta2 and propagate into the welded metal.

Quercetin Attenuates Benzo(α)pyrene-induced CYP1A Expression

We studied effects of nutrient quercetin on cytochromes＇ Р450 1А （CYP1A） activities （measured spectrofluorimetrically using 7-ethoxy-resorufin for CYP1A1 and 7-methoxy-resorufin for CYP1A2 as substrates）, on m RNA levels （measured by RT-PCR）, and on DNA-binding activities （evaluated by an electrophoretic mobility shift assay） of proteins regulating CYP1A expression in untreated and benzo（α）pyrene （ba P）-treated rats. Wistar rats received quercetin, ba P, or both once daily for 1-3 days. Quercetin did not influence CYP1A1 in untreated rats but inhibited ba P-mediated CYP1A induction on the transcriptional level decreasing positive input （Ah R functional activity） and increasing negative input （Ah RR/ARNT expression and Oct-1 and C/EBP functional activities）.
