Dyeing Fabrics by Using Extracts from Mulberry Branch/Trunk *** and Fluorescence Property

The dyeing of wool, silk, cotton, ramie, nylon, acrylic and polyester fabric by using the extracts from mulberry branches and trunks was tried and the dyeability was studied. While the dyeability of the ethanol-extracts from mulberry is low, that of the water-extracts is high for wool, nylon and silk fabrics. They are dyed brownish and yellowish colours. The obtained colours depend on the extracts concentration in the dye solution, dyeing time, dye solution pH and dyeing temperature. Wool, nylon and silk fabrics are dyed deeper with an increase in the dyeing temperature. The mulberry extracts show fluorescence and reducing property. The results indicate that the mulberry extracts contain flavonols such as morin, kaempferol or quercetin, which form complexes with Al3+ and show fluorescence. The wool treated with the mulberry extracts or AlCl3/mulberry extracts shows fluorescence with ultraviolet light irradiation.

The paper describes a new human-interface system design method by combining the conception of Multilevel Flow Model and Ecological Interface Design to support operators’ fault diagnosis in the complex plant system. Modern man-made systems are always achieving many complex automatic and intelligent tasks so that they are becoming more and more complex and can be hardly understood by operators, who should be the primary role in system operating. This situation presents a big challenge to the operating support system that it should present the complex system in a direct and clear way to operators to and make operators understand the internal interaction of the system especially in the abnormal status to ensure the operating safety. The Multilevel Flow Model based on the idea of ”Abstraction Hierarchy”, aiming at decompressing a system by means-end and part-whole way, can be used to represent a complex system in a standard way and perform intelligent operating tasks such as fault diagnosis and process control. Ecological Interface Design, which based on the human cognitive properties, can present the internal interaction of the system in a direct way. This paper combines this two interface design conceptions to achieve two aspects, intelligent fault diagnosis and direct presentation of causal relationship of operating parameters, to support operators’ fault diagnosis in complex plant system. The design method is applied to a PWR power plant in this paper as an application example.

The Kinetics of Pb Removal from Brass Scrap Using Compound Separation

2 wt% Ca was added to molten brass containing 3.2 wt% Pb. The composition and grain size of the formed Ca-Pb compound were examined in detail using SEM-EDS and XRD. This revealed that the composition of the Ca-Pb compound depends on the grain size of the liquid phase Pb and the diffusion phenomenon of the Ca in the Ca-Pb compound formed on the surface of the Pb. When the Pb has a fine grain, a compound composed only of Ca-Pb compounds is formed. When the grain size of the Pb is several μm, Ca-Pb compounds containing unreacted Pb in the center are formed. These compounds aggregate into a larger compound grain. From the evaluation of the floating force (the resultant force of the weight and buoyancy of the Ca-Pb compounds formed) and the rising terminal velocity of the Ca-Pb compound within the molten brass, it was found that the floating force and rising terminal velocity depend on the composition and grain size of the Ca-Pb compound. It was found that since Ca-Pb compounds with a floating force greater than 10-6 g ·cm/s2 have a very large rising terminal velocity, they reach the surface of the molten brass in a short time after compound formation and then continue to float on the surface of the molten brass. Thus they can be removed by skimming. The effects of the grain size of the Ca-Pb compound on the floating force and the rising terminal velocity were greater than those of the composition of the Ca-Pb compound.

BACKGROUND Ischemic gastritis is a clinically rare and highly fatal disease that occurs when the hemodynamics of a patient with vascular risk is *** diagnosis and treatment are possible only with upper endoscopy after symptom *** report seven cases of ischemic gastritis and its clinical features,prognosis,and indicators that may help in early *** SUMMARY Of the seven patients,six had vascular risk and five died within 2 wk of *** symptoms included hematemesis and *** surgery is a choice for radical treatment,not all patients were *** such patients,conservative treatment was selected,but all of them *** contrast,patients who underwent repeat endoscopy showed improved mucosal findings,suggesting that this improvement may not affect *** ischemic changes such as wall thickening,mural emphysema,and fluid retention in the stomach were observed before diagnosis through endoscopy and computed tomography(CT).The CT scan can be effective for early detection,and improvement in circulatory failure and aggressive treatment may save the lives of patients with this *** The characteristic CT findings enable early detection of ischemic *** diagnosis increases the chance of survival if early therapeutic intervention and improvement of circulatory dynamics can be achieved in this highly fatal disease.

Immunohistochemical Analysis of p16 Expression in Uterine Smooth Muscle Tumors

Objective: Immunohistochemistry with p16 antibody is used as a diagnostic marker in several gynecologic pathologies. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic significance of p16 immunohistochemistry in various uterine smooth muscle tumors. Methods: Tissue specimens, including 29 leiomyomas, 13 smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP), and 17 leiomyosarcomas, were obtained from 59 patients with uterine smooth muscle tumors. The prevalence of p16 expression in various uterine smooth muscle tumors was examined using immunohistochemistry methods and we investigated the association between p16 expression and various clinicopathologic parameters, including prognosis of leiomyosarcomas. Results: The prevalence of p16 expression of leiomyomas, STUMP, and leiomyosarcomas tumors was 10.3%, 38.4%, and 76.4%, respectively. The prevalence and immunohistochemistry scores of p16 were significantly higher in the leiomyosarcomas group than in the leiomyomas or STUMP tumor groups. In the leiomyosarcomas groups, p16 immunohistochemistry scores were significantly higher in the groups with more advanced stage, higher mitotic activity, and recurrence. The relationship among p16 immunohistochemistry scores and age, tumor size, extent of necrosis, and degree of myometrial invasion was not significant. High expression of p16 in leiomyosarcomas was linked to shorter disease-free and overall survival. Conclusions: The use of p16 immunohisitochemistry is a useful marker in differential diagnosis in various uterine smooth muscle tumors. Moreover, p16 overexpression possibly plays an important role in tumor progression and we demonstrate that p16 may be a predictor of overall survival in patients with leiomyosarcoma tumors.

Chiral Polyamides Having L-Glutamyl Residue as a Component

Polyamides with chiral environment were obtained from aromatic diamine, 1,3-phenylenediamine (1,3-PDA) or 1,4- phenylenediamine (1,4-PDA), and N-α-benzoyl-L-glutamic acid (Benzoyl-L-Glu). The optical rotation ([α]D) for 1,3- PDA-Benzoyl-L-Glu was determined to be 3.7 deg cm2 g–1, while that for 1,4-PDA-Benzoyl-L-Glu to be 9.7 deg cm2 g–1. 1,3-PDA-Benzoyl-L-Glu showed adsorption selectivity toward D-Glu and its adsorption selectivity was determined to be 1.68. Contrary to this, 1,4-PDA-Benzoyl-L-Glu showed adsorption selectivity toward L-Glu and the adsorption selectivity toward L-Glu was determined to be 1.33. From those results, those two types of chiral polyamide are expected to applicable to chiral separation or chiral recognition.

A large impact of tropical biomass burning on CO and CO_2 in the upper troposphere

A large interannual variation of biomass burning emissions from Southeast Asia is associated with the ENSO events. During 1997/98 and 1994 El Nino years, uncontrolled wildfires of tropical rainforests and peat lands in Indonesia were enlarged due to a long drought. Enhanced CO injection into the upper troposphere from the intense Indonesian fires was clearly observed in the 8-year measurements from a regular flask sampling over the western Pacific using a JAL airliner between Australia and Japan. This airliner observation also revealed that upper tropospheric CO2 cycle largely changed during the 1997 El Nino year due partly to the biomass burning emissions. Widespread pollution from the biomass burnings in Southeast Asia was simulated using a CO tracer driven by a 3D global chemical transport model. This simulation indicates that tropical deep convections connected to rapid advection by the subtropical jet play a significant role in dispersing biomass-burning emissions from Southeast Asia on a global scale.

Does an “Overactive to Underactive Bladder Transition” Phenomenon Exist in a Rat Lumbar Spinal Canal Stenosis Model?

Purpose: To investigate the association between the maximum cystometric capacity (MCC) and other cystometric parameters in lumbar canal stenosis (LCS) rats. Material and Methods: One small hole was drilled at the fifth lumbar vertebral arch (Sham), and a rectangular piece of silicone rubber was then placed in the epidural space (LCS) of Wister rats. Two weeks after surgery, awake cystometry was performed. LCS rats were divided into three groups: Group A (n = 5, MCC 1.81 mL). Cystometric parameters were investigated in sham and LCS groups. Results: MCC did not significantly correlate to the frequency of non-voiding contractions (NVCs), voided volume (VV), or maximum intravesical pressure during voiding (Pmax), but significantly positively correlated to postvoid residual urine volume (PVR) and residual urine rate (RUR) (Spearman’s correlation coefficients (ρ) = 0.8973 (p < 0.0001) and 0.4915 (p = 0.0068), respectively). Compared with the sham rats, LCS rats in each group revealed significantly smaller VV, larger RUR, and lower Pmax. On the other hand, among LCS rats, VV, RUR, and Pmax were not significantly different. The frequency of NVCs in each LCS group was not significantly different from that in sham-operated rats (Tukey-Kramer’s HSD test). However, a Jonckheere-Terpstra trend test revealed a significant trend toward higher NVCs in the order of sham, Groups C, B, and A (p = 0.036). Conclusions: LCS rats showed the same degree of detrusor underactivity regardless of MCC. NVCs did not significantly increase in LCS rats with decreased MCC, but the trend toward higher NVCs with smaller MCC was significant.

The local and global mechanical responses of gas tungsten arc welds（GTAW） of a 2219-T87 aluminum alloy were investigated with experiment and numerical *** image correlation（DIC） was used to access the local strain fields in transversely loaded welds and to determine the local stress-strain curves of various regions in the *** results show that the DIC method is efficient to acquire the local stress-strain curves but the curves of harder regions are incomplete because the stress and strain ranges are limited by the weakest *** appropriate extrapolation,the complete local stress-strain curves were acquired and proved to be effective to predict the tensile behavior of the welded *** the tensile process,the fracture initiates from the weld toes owing to their plastic strain concentrations and then propagates along the fusion line,finally propagates into the partially melted zone（PMZ）.
