Forage fishes are ecologically and economically important low trophic level species,and in recent years interest in their biology and management has *** Herring are emblemat-ic of the management issues facing forage species-they are central components of the Northeast Pacific pelagic food web and support important commercial *** addition,the importance of Herring to indigenous peoples have made them cultural keystone *** employed a participatory process to promote collaborative priority-setting for this critical forage *** with managers,the fisher-ies industry,indigenous peoples,and scientists,we co-constructed a conceptual model of the Pacific Her-ring social-ecological system(SES)in the Northeast *** then identified a set of questions,that,if answered,would significantly increase our ability to sustainably manage the Herring *** objective was to generate a road map for scientists who wish to conduct useful forage fish research,for resource managers who wish to develop new research efforts that could fill critical gaps,and for public agencies and private foundations seeking to prioritize funding on forage fish issues in the *** this socio-cultural centrality comes complexity for fisheries *** participatory process highlighted the value of conceptualizing the full SES,overcame disciplinary differences in scientific approaches,research philos-ophy,and language,and charted a path forward for future research and management for forage species.

Du Fu 杜甫(712-770)did many adventurous experiments on the prosodic patterns of regulated verses,especially on heptasyllabic *** critics claim that many of his poems don’t conform to the prosodic rules they define for regulated verses or other recently style *** believe that Du Fu violates the regular rules and create a category called 拗體"skewed regulated verse"to accommodate this type of *** this paper,the author first reviews some basics of poetic prosody in Chinese recent-style poetry,then examines the tonal prosodic patterns of four poems Du Fu wrote in Kuizhou 夔州.the analysis will show that Du Fu not only made full use of the traditional distinction between level tones and oblique tones,but also experimented on four tones independently developed in Middle *** deliberately arranged different tones into well balanced *** data and analysis lead to the conclusion that the regulated verses are not limited to the set patterns formulated by later *** poems written with the manipulation of metrical patterns through arranging suprasegmental segments (i.e. tones) should fall into the category of regulated *** metrical patterns of Du Fu’s poems are not "skewed" at all. On the contrary,his poems are an exemplar of strictly regulated *** poem written with manipulation of tonal patterns is a regulated poem.

the exploration and identification of safe and effective vaccines for the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic have captured the world's attention and remains an ongoing issue due to concerns of balancing protection against emerging variants of concern while also generating long-lasting immunity. Here, we report the synthesis of a novel messenger ribonucleic acid encoding the spike protein in a lipid nanoparticle formulation (StI-7264) that generates robust humoral and cellular immunity following immunization of C57Bl6 mice. In an effort to improve immunity, a clinically focused lymphatic drug delivery device (MuVaxx) was engineered to modulate immune cells at the injection site (epidermis and dermis) and draining lymph node (LN) and tested to measure adaptive immunity. Using MuVaxx, immune responses were elicited and maintained at a 10-fold dose reduction compared to traditional intramuscular (IM) administration as measured by anti-spike antibodies, cytokine-producing CD8 t cells, neutralizing antibodies against the Washington (wild type) strain and South African (Beta) variants, and LN-resident spike-specific memory B cells. Remarkably, a 4-fold-elevated t cell response was observed in MuVaxx-administered vaccination compared to that of IM-administered vaccination. thus, these data support further investigation into StI-7264 and lymphatic-mediated delivery using MuVaxx for SARS-CoV-2 and VoC vaccines.

AIM: to evaluate the light adjustable lens(LAL) vs a standard monofocal lens in achieving target astigmatic refraction and improving postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA). MEtHODS: this randomized controlled clinical trial included 40 patients with pre-existing astigmatism and visually significant cataract. twenty-eight patients received the LAL and 12 control patients received a monofocal intraocular lens(IOL) after cataract extraction at a single institution. the patients with the LAL underwent adjustment by ultraviolet(UV) light postoperatively plus subsequent lock-in procedures and all patients returned to clinic for follow up of study parameters at 6, 9, and 12 mo. Manifest refraction, distance visual acuity, and adverse events were recorded at each ***: the mean cylinder before adjustment in eyes with the LAL was-0.89±0.58 D(-2.00 to 0.00 D) and-0.34±0.34 D(-1.25 to 0.00 D) after lock-in(P=1.68 x10-8). the mean cylinder in patients with the monofocal lens was-1.00±0.32 D(-1.50 to-0.50 D) at 17-21 d postoperatively, which was statistically different from the LAL cylinder postlock-in(P=1.43 x10-6). UDVA in the LAL group was 20/20 or better in 79% of patients post lock-in with good stability over 12 mo compared with 33% of the control patients with UDVA of 20/20 or better. CONCLUSION: these results demonstrate that the LAL is more effective in achieving target refractions and improving postoperative UDVA in patients with pre-existing corneal astigmatism than a standard monofocal lens.

Introduction: High Grade Prostatic Intraepithelial Neoplasia (HGPIN) was originally thought to be a cancer precursor, but subsequent data has questioned its prognostic significance. We analyzed a large cohort of men diagnosed with HGPIN for subsequent occurrence of prostate cancer. Methods: From 2001 to 2011, we identified 567 men with isolated HGPIN and followed them for subsequent diagnosis of prostate cancer. Results: two hundred and five patients were followed (median 5.9 years) without biopsy and remained clinically free of prostate cancer. the remaining 362 men underwent repeat biopsies and 133 (37%) were diagnosed with prostate cancer. the number of cores of HGPIN and whether they were unilateral or bilateral was not predictive for subsequent diagnosis of cancer. Prostate specific antigen was the only statistically significant predictor for prostate cancer. Conclusions: We found the incidence of cancer after a diagnosis of HGPIN to be 37%, which is consistent with other published series. this is only marginally higher than in patients re-biopsied after a prior benign biopsy. It appears that isolated HGPIN has only a small predictive value for subsequent diagnosis of prostate cancer. therefore the finding of HGPIN should be used only in conjunction with other risk factors and patient considerations in deciding whether to proceed with further prostate biopsies.

Forestland and timber Donations: Challenging Management Opportunities for Foundations

Over half of the forestland in the United States is in private hands. Just over 10 million individual and family owners control about 60% of this private forestland. Ownership of family forests changes on a regular basis;sometimes from generation to generation and sometimes to outside of the family. Often new owners are not interested in forest management and sell off the asset. Some owners attempt to ensure their family forest remains pristine and undeveloped. this is leading to timberland donations to entities that can be expected to hold the donated forest permanently and ensure sustainable forest management. University foundations and forestry schools are increasingly receiving timberland as donations. It is a way for donors to monetize the asset (with tax breaks) and protect it at the same time. Foundations have a problem with timberland as they often don’t fully understand it as an investment. Certainly there are even times when a foundation should not accept it as a donation. the nature of timberland as an investment is explained, along with basic terminology that is common use. Age class distribution and the resulting cash flow dis- tribution is explained, as well as timber volume, harvest scheduling, timberland investment analysis, tim- ber value, timber sales, and timber contracts. All of these are tools foundation board members need to evaluate timberland donations.

the relationship between systolic loading condi-tions at rest and left ventricular （LV） functional response to exercise was assessed in 31 patients with aortic regurgitation （AR） and 10 controls. the peak and end systolic wall stress determined from echocar-diography and cuff systolic pressure at rest were used as indirect measures of LV systolic loading, and compared with LV ejection fraction response to handgrip and bicycle exercise by radionuclide ven-trieulography. Both peak and end systolic wall stress were significantly higber in asymptomatic （164±33 and 90±25×10～3 dynes/cm2） and symptomatic （196±33 and 134±17×10～3 dynes/cm2） patients with AR than in the controls （125±22 and 61±14×10～3 dynes cm2, pted in-versely with the changes in LV ejection fraction during handgrip （r=-0.63 and r=-0.73） and bicycle （r=0.68 and r=-0.87） *** patients with AR, resting systolic loading conditions appear to reflect LV functional reserve during exercise.
