Soil Organic Carbon Density in Hebei Province, China: Estimates and Uncertainty

In order to improve the precision of soil organic carbon (SOC) estimates, the sources of uncertainty in soil organic carbon density (SOCD) estimates and SOC stocks were examined using 363 soil profiles in Hebei Province, China, with three methods: the soil profile statistics (SPS), GIS-based soil type (GSt), and kriging interpolation (KI). the GSt method, utilizing both pedological professional knowledge and GIS technology, was considered the most accurate method of the three estimations, with SOCD estimates for SPS 10% lower and KI 10% higher. the SOCD range for GSt was 84% wider than KI as KI smoothing effect narrowed the SOCD range. Nevertheless, the coefficient of variation for SOCD with KI (41.7%) was less than GSt and SPS. Comparing SOCD’s lower estimates for SPS versus GSt, the major sources of uncertainty were the conflicting area of proportional relations. Meanwhile, the fewer number of soil profiles and the necessity of using the smoothing effect with KI were its sources of uncertainty. Moreover, for local detailed variations of SOCD, GSt was more advantageous in reflecting the distribution pattern than KI.

Merging bound states in the continuum in an open acoustic resonator

Bound states in the continuum （BICs） are perfectly localized resonances despite embedding in the continuum ***,an isolated BIC is very sensitive to the structure ***,we report merging acoustic BICs in a single open resonator,robust against the structure *** find that both symmetry-protected BIC and friedrich-Wintgen BIC are sustained in a single coupled waveguide-resonator *** varying the height and length of the resonator,these two BICs move toward each other and merge into a single one at a critical *** to an individual BIC,the merged BIC is robust against fabrication error because its Q-factor is proportional to ΔL-4,whereΔL embodies the structure *** essence of this extraordinary phenomenon is perfectly explained by the two-and three-level approximations of the effective nonHermitian ***,we present direct experimental demonstrations of the moving and merging of BICs in a coupled 3D waveguide-resonator,which are evidenced by the vanishing of the linewidth of fano resonance in the transmission *** results may find exciting applications in designing high-quality acoustic sources,sensors and filters.

this paper examines the transport analysis, including both heat transfer and mass transfer, in hybrid nanofluid flow containing gyrotactic microorganisms towards a curved oscillatory surface. the influence of magnetic fields is also inspected in terms of their physical characteristics. to depict the phenomena of transport, modified versions of both fick's and fourier's laws are used. Additionally, the characteristics of both heterogeneous and homogeneous chemical reactions are also incorporated. Utilizing a curvilinear coordinate system, the flow problem is formulated as partial differential equations(PDEs)for momentum, concentration, microorganism field, and energy. An analytical solution to the obtained flow equations is achieved utilizing the homotopy analysis method(HAM).the effects of significant flow parameters on the pressure and microorganism fields, velocity, oscillation velocity, concentration, and temperature distributions are shown via graphs. furthermore, the variations in skin friction, mass transfer rate, heat transfer rate, and local motile number due to different involved parameters are presented in tables and are analyzed in detail. Graphical results indicate that the curves of velocity and temperature fields are enhanced as the values of the solid volume fraction variables *** is also verified that the concentration rate field decreases as the values of the homogeneous reaction strength parameter and the radius of curvature parameter increase, and it increases with the Schmidt number and the heterogeneous reaction strength *** outcomes show a favorable response of the motile number to advanced values of the Peclet number, the Schmidt number, the microorganism difference parameter, and the bio-convective Lewis number.

On the Indeterminacy in Hardness of Shape Memory Alloys

the present communication addresses an interesting problem related to the indeterminacy in hardness of superelastic Niti reported by Xu et al. the origin of the indeterminacy is attributed to the inadequacy of the conventional Vickers hardness testing measurement which does not record elastic deformation, and thus the indeterminacy may be removed with suitable techniques. Concepts of hardness in relation to deformation are clarified. Recommendations for measuring the hardness of Niti and other elastic-plastic materials are suggested, together with comments on the advantages and disadvantages of each of these methods.

Extracellular matrix remodelling in dental pulp tissue of carious human teeth through the prism of single-cell RNA sequencing

Carious lesions are bacteria-caused destructions of the mineralised dental tissues,marked by the simultaneous activation of immune responses and regenerative events within the soft dental pulp *** major molecular players in tooth decay have been uncovered during the past years,a detailed map of the molecular and cellular landscape of the diseased pulp is still *** this study we used single-cell RNA sequencing analysis,supplemented with immunostaining,to generate a comprehensive single-cell atlas of the pulp of carious human *** data demonstrated modifications in the various cell clusters within the pulp of carious teeth,such as immune cells,mesenchymal stem cells(MSC)and fibroblasts,when compared to the pulp of healthy human *** immune response in the carious pulp tissue is accompanied by specific changes in the fibroblast and MSC *** changes include the upregulation of genes encoding extracellular matrix(ECM)components,including COL1A1 and fibronectin(fN1),and the enrichment of the fibroblast cluster with *** incremental changes in the ECM composition of carious pulp tissues were further confirmed by immunostaining *** of the fibronectin fibres under mechanical strain conditions showed a significant tension reduction in carious pulp tissues,compared to the healthy *** present data demonstrate molecular,cellular and biomechanical alterations in the pulp of human carious teeth,indicative of extensive ECM remodelling,reminiscent of fibrosis observed in other *** comprehensive atlas of carious human teeth can facilitate future studies of dental pathologies and enable comparative analyses across diseased organs.

the impact of alpha-fetoprotein (AfP), child-turcotte-pugh (CtP) score and disease staging on the survival of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients: a retrospective cohort from single oncology center

Background:Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common cause of cancer-related death in Saudi Arabia. Our study aimed to investigate the patterns of HCC and the effect of tNM staging, Alfa-fetoprotein (AfP), and Child-turcotte Pugh (CtP) on patients' overall survival (OS).Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 43 HCC patients at a single oncology center in Saudi Arabia from 2015 to 2020. All patients had to fulfill one of the following criteria: (a) a liver lesion reported as definitive HCC on dynamic imaging and/or (b) a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis.Results:the mean patient age of all HCC cases was 66.8 with a male-to-female ratio of 3.3:1. All patients were stratified into two groups: viral HCC (n = 22, 51%) and non-viral HCC (n = 21, 49%). Among viral-HCC patients, 55% were due to HBV and 45% due to HCV. Cirrhosis was diagnosed in 79% of cases. Age and sex did not significantly statistically differ in OS among viral and non-viral HCC patients (-value > 0.05). About 65% of patients had tumor size >5 cm during the diagnosis, with a significant statistical difference in OS (-value = 0.027). AfP was >400 ng/ml in 45% of the patients. there was a statistically significant difference in the OS in terms of AfP levels (-value = 0.021). A statistically significant difference was also observed between the CtP score and OS (-value = 0.02). CtP class B had the longest survival. BSC was the most common treatment provided to HCC patients followed by sorafenib therapy. there was a significant statistical difference in OS among viral and non-viral HCC patients (-value = 0.008).Conclusions:the most common predictors for OS were the underlying cause of HCC, AfP, and tumor size. Being having non-viral etiology, a tumor size >5 cm, an AfP > 400 ng/mL, and a CtP score class C were all negatively associated with OS.

Structural,electronic,optical,and magnetic properties of Co-doped Cu2O

We investigate the magnetic properties of Co-doped Cu_2O. We studied first the electronic and structural properties of Cu_2O using the optimization of the lattice constant which is 4.18 . the calculated gap is found between 0.825 eV and1.5 eV, these values are in good agreement with the experimental results. the Co atoms are inserted in Cu_2O by means of the density functional theory（Dft） using LSDA, LSDA ＋U, and LSDA ＋ MBJ approximations in the WIEN2 k code, based on the supercell model by setting up 12, 24, and 48 atoms in（1×1 × 2）,（1 × 2 × 2）, and（2 × 2×2） supercells respectively with one or two copper atoms being replaced by cobalt atoms. the energy difference between the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic coupling of the spins located on the substitute Co has been calculated in order to obtain better insight into the magnetic exchange coupling for this particular compound. the studied compound exhibits stable integer magnetic moments of 2 μBand 4 μBwhen it is doped with 2 atoms of Co. Optical properties have also been worked out. the results obtained in this study demonstrate the importance of the magnetic effect in Cu_2O.

Determination and prediction of pavement skid resistance–connecting research and practice

Closed-form solutions for free vibration of rectangular fGM thin plates resting on elastic foundation

this article presents closed-form solutions for the frequency analysis of rectangular functionally graded material (fGM) thin plates subjected to initially in-plane loads and with an elastic foundation. Based on classical thin plate theory, the governing differential equations are derived using Hamilton's principle. A neutral surface is used to eliminate stretching-bending coupling in fGM plates on the basis of the assumption of constant Poisson's ratio. the resulting governing equation of fGM thin plates has the same form as homogeneous thin plates. the separation-of-variables method is adopted to obtain solutions for the free vibration problems of rectangular fGM thin plates with separable boundary conditions, including, for example, clamped plates. the obtained normal modes and frequencies are in elegant closed forms, and present formulations and solutions are validated by comparing present results with those in the literature and finite element method results obtained by the authors. A parameter study reveals the effects of the power law index n and aspect ratio a/b on frequencies.
