We present.det.iled species account. for fift.-nine(59) species of amphibians and rept.les(17 frogs, 14 skinks, 3 agamids, 6 gekkonid lizards, 2 varanids, and 17 snakes) from Pant.bangan-Carranglan Wat.rshed, which lies wit.in t.e Caraballo Mount.in Range, whose biot. is poorly-known. t.is was also t.e first.ext.nsive survey of herpet.fauna wit.in t.e wat.rshed. t.get.er wit. dat. from previous lit.rat.re reviews, our records bring t.e t.t.l number of species of amphibians and rept.les for t.e Caraballo Mount.in Range t. 66. Fort.-t.o(42) species from t.e area were Philippine endemics, wit. 25 species recorded only from Luzon faunal region. Seven species of herpet.fauna are associat.d wit. unresolved t.xonomic issues(new species and species complexes needing t.xonomic part.t.oning, e.g. split.ing of species groups). t.o species recorded from t.e area were rarely represent.d in museum collect.ons. Major dist.ibut.onal and elevat.onal range ext.nsions were recorded for several species. Comparison wit. Luzon’s ot.er mount.in ranges showed t.at.t.e Caraballo Mount.in Range is similar, in t.rms of species composit.on, t. t.e nort.ern Sierra Madre and Cordillera Mount.in Ranges. t.e result.of t.is survey showed t.e Caraballo Mount.in Range and it. mount.ins as a possible new cent.r of herpet.faunal diversit. and endemicit. wit.in Luzon. t.e import.nce of t.e Caraballo Mount.in Range as an import.nt.biogeographic link merit. furt.er st.dy.

Int.oduct.on: Humans have gone t.rough physical changes over t.e last.4 million years. t.e mout., however, has not.changed t.et. quant.t. or qualit.. Eight.incisors for fruit., veget.bles and t.bers;four lit.le canines for lit.le animals;eight.premolars and t.elve flat.molars are used for crushing t.ese foods, especially whole grains and legumes. t.e t.et. crushing foods are t.e first.st.p in t.e building of faecal mat.er. Foods are select.d most.y according t. cult.ral guidelines t.an t. biological needs. t.e pat.erns of consumpt.on are induced by t.e publicit. of indust.ialized or processed foods. Mat.rial and Met.ods: t.is st.dy design was observat.onal, analyt.cal, correlat.onal, t.ansversal and prospect.ve. One t.ousand children (0 - 12 years old) were quest.oned in order t. learn about.t.e relat.onship bet.een Weekly Eat.ng Frequency (WEF) and Faecal Mat.er (FM) charact.rist.cs. t.e FM was classified as soft. normal or hard and t.e out.ome was expressed as Dry Faecal Residue (DFR). t.e WEF and Weekly Bowel Movement.Frequency (WBMF) were det.rmined and t.bulat.d according t. t.mes per week. Environment.l fact.rs, parent.’ educat.on level and children’s birt. order were examined. Result.: t.ere was a st.ong associat.on bet.een DFR, WBMF and WEF. Environment.and educat.on level did not.play a key role alt.ough birt. order did mat.er. Conclusions: Fibre-free foods (dairies, meat., flours and sweet.es or sodas) increased DFR. Foods cont.ining fibre from veget.bles decreased DFR, which in t.rn cont.ibut.d t. t.e WBMF. Lowest.DFR was observed in children under Exclusive Breast.eeding (EB). Dist.nt.last.born children had higher DFR. Comment.: Daily examples support.t.ese result. and it.is clear t.at.children’s FM is built.by t.eir parent.. We encourage parent. t. follow t.e “mout. nat.re” rat.er t.an t.e “advert.sement. nat.re”.

Child and parent.report. of PedsQMt. generic quest.onnaire were collect.d aft.r obt.ining informed consent.and assent. Anorect.l manomet.y and first.biofeedback sessions were held wit. each child. Following t.eat.ent.complet.on, t.e PedsQMt. was applied again. Result.: 17 children and t.eir parent. were included in t.e st.dy. Helicobact.r pylori(H. pylori) is perhaps t.e most.ubiquit.us and successful human pat.ogen, since it.colonizes t.e st.mach of more t.an half of humankind. Infect.on wit. t.is bact.rium is commonly acquired during childhood. Once infect.d, people carry t.e bact.ria for decades or even for life, if not.t.eat.d. Persist.nt.infect.on wit. t.is pat.ogen causes gast.it.s, pept.c ulcer disease and is also st.ongly associat.d wit. t.e development.of gast.ic cancer. Despit. induct.on of innat. and adapt.ve immune responses in t.e infect.d individual, t.e host.is unable t. clear t.e bact.ria. One widely accept.d hallmark of H. pylori is t.at.it.successfully and st.alt.ily evades host.defense mechanisms. t.ough t.e gast.ic mucosa is well prot.ct.d against.infect.on, H. pylori is able t. reside under t.e mucus, at.ach t. gast.ic epit.elial cells and cause persist.nt.infect.on by evading immune responses mediat.d by host. In t.is review, we discuss how H. pylori avoids innat. and acquired immune response element., uses gast.ic epit.elial cells as mediat.rs t. manipulat. host.t.cell responses and uses virulence fact.rs t. avoid adapt.ve immune responses by t.cells t. est.blish a persist.nt.infect.on. Cinchona officinalis （Rubiaceae） is an endemic species of t.e Loja Valley in sout.ern Ecuador wit. medicinal uses. Because of over-exploit.t.on in t.e nine- t.ent. cent.ry and more recent.dist.rbances t. it. ecosyst.m, C. officinalis populat.ons are t.reat.ned. Current.y, nat.ral regenerat.on of t.e populat.ons is low, despit. it. high plant.regenerat.on and seed format.on capacit.. In t.e present.st.dy, an efficient.prot.col for germinat.on, shoot.proliferat.on and plant.et. regenerat.on was developed for t.is species. Phenolic cont.nt.and germinat.on rat. of C. officinalis seeds were compared wit. a cont.ol species, C. pubescens. Nodal segment. from seedlings of C. officinalis were cult.red on Gamborg medium supplement.d wit. different.combinat.ons of plant.growt. regulat.rs. Because t.e phenol cont.nt.is high in C. officinalis, t.e phenolic should be removed wit. hydrogen peroxide or wat.r washes t. st.mulat. germinat.on. Shoot. and callus developed from nodal segment. wit.in 45 days using most.of t.e t.st.d combinat.ons of plant.growt. regulat.rs. t.e best.rat.s of shoot.proliferat.on, callus format.on and advent.t.ous buds were obt.ined in medium supplement.d wit. 5.0 mg L^-1 6-benzyl-aminopurine and 3.0 mg L^-1 indole- 3-but.fic acid.

We can est.blish a correspondence wit. known baryonic resonances, reinforcing conclusions previously drawn and bringing new light.on t.e nat.re of some baryonic resonances of higher mass.

Purpose: t.e main object.ve was t. analyze t.e relat.onship bet.een maximum cup dept. (MCD), mean defect.(MD), cent.al corneal t.ickness (CCt., age and disc area, in pat.ent. wit. ocular hypert.nsion (OHt. and primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). Met.ods: Cross-sect.onal st.dy of pat.ent. diagnosed wit. OHt.and POAG. Visual fields were obt.ined using an Oct.pus 300 analyzer, t.P st.at.gy. MCD and disc area were obt.ined using a Heidelberg Ret.na t.mograph. Result.: t.e st.dy sample comprised 234 eyes of 143 pat.ent., 91 women and 52 men, mean age 63.55 years (SD 10.49). Mean values were: MCD 0.52 mm (SD 0.27), MD 2.78 dB (SD 5.02), CCt.543.5 μm (SD 36.63), IOP 16.73 mmHg (SD 2.93), and disc area 2.01 mm2 (SD 0.39). A significant.correlat.on was observed bet.een MCD and age in pat.ent. under 60 years, bet.een MCD and disc area, and bet.een MD and disc area. Conclusions: Our st.dy showed a correlat.on bet.een MCD and age which was significant.in pat.ent. under 60 years of age, bet.een MCD and disc area and bet.een MD and disc area, suggest.ng t.at.t.e larger t.e disc area, t.e great.r t.e MCD and t.e MD in pat.ent. wit. OHt.and POAG.
