Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune treatable but not curable *** are a multiplicity of medications for multiple sclerosis therapy,including a class entitled disease-modifying drugs that are mainly indicated to reduce the number and severity of disease *** all patients respond well to these therapies,and minor to severe adverse effects have been *** D,called sunshine vitamin,is being studied as a possible light at the end of the *** this review,we recapitulated the similar immunopathogenesis of multiple sclerosis and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis,the immunomodulatory and neuroprotective potential of vitamin D and the state-of-art concerning its supplementation to multiple sclerosis ***,based on our and other groups’experimental findings,we analyzed the need to consider the relevance of the route and the different time-point administration aspects for a more rational indication of this vitamin to multiple sclerosis patients.

the use of triple therapy for hepatitis c not only increases the rate of sustained virological responses compared with the use of only interferon and ribavirin(RBV) but also leads to an increased number of side effects. the subject of this study was a 53-year-old male who was cirrhotic with hepatitis c virus genotype 1 A and was a previous null non-responder. We initially attempted retreatment with boceprevir(BOc), Peginterferon and RBV, and a decrease in viral load was observed in the 8th week. In week 12, he presented with disorientation, flapping, fever, tachypnea, arterial hypotension and tachycardia. He also exhibitedleucopenia with neutropenia. cefepime and filgrastim were initiated, and treatment for hepatitis c was suspended. A myelogram revealed hypoplasia, cytotoxicity and maturational retardation. After 48 h, he developed bilateral inguinal erythema that evolved throughout the perineal area to the root of the thighs, with exulcerations and an outflow of seropurulent secretions. Because we hypothesized that he was suffering from Fournier's Syndrome, treatment was replaced with the antibiotics imipenem, linezolid and clindamycin. After this new treatment paradigm was initiated, his lesions regressed without requiring surgical debridement. triple therapy requires knowledge regarding the management of adverse effects and drug interactions; it also requires an understanding of the importance of respecting the guidelines for the withdrawal of treatment. In this case report, we observed an adverse event that had not been previously reported in the literature with the use of BOc.

BAcKGROUND Obesity has been associated with hepatic overexpression of the renin-angiotensin system(RAS).AIM to evaluate the action of two angiotensin II(ANGII) receptor blockers(losartan or telmisartan) on the modulation of local hepatic RAS and the resulting metabolic effects in a diet-induced obesity murine *** twenty c57 BL/6 mice were randomly divided into two nutritional groups for 10 wk: control group(c, n = 5, 10% of energy as fat) or high-fat group(HF, n = 15,50% of energy as fat). After treatment started, the HF group was randomly divided into three groups: untreated HF group(n = 5), HF treated with losartan(HFL, n = 5) and HF treated with telmisartan(HFt, n = 5). the treatments lasted for 5 wk, and the dose was 10 mg/kg body *** HF diet induced body mass gain(+28%, P tance(+69%, P =0.0079), high hepatic triacylglycerol(+127%, P = 0.0004), and overexpression of intrahepatic angiotensin-converting enzyme(AcE) 1/ANGII type 1 receptor(At1 r)(+569.02% and +141.40%, respectively, P the HFL and HFt groups showed higher AcE2/rMAS gene expression compared to the HF group(AcE2: +465.57%, P = 0.0002 for HFL and +345.17%, P = 0.0049 for HFt; rMAS:+711.39%, P t), followed by reduced insulin/glucose ratio(-30% for HFL and-33% for HFt, P = 0.0181),hepatic triacylglycerol levels(-28%, P = 0.0381 for HFL; and-45%, P = 0.0010 for HFt, and Plin2 *** Modulation of the intrahepatic RAS, with favored involvement of the AcE2/rMAS axis over the AcE1/At1 r axis after losartan or telmisartan treatments, caused hepatic and metabolic beneficial effects as demonstrated by reduced hepatic triacylglycerol levels coupled with reduced PLIN 2 expression and improved glycemic control.

Over 50 genera of bees release pollen from flower anthers using thoracic vibrations,a phenomenon known as *** efficiency of this process is directly affected by the mechanical properties of the buzzes,namely the duration,amplitude,and ***,although the effects of the former two properties are well described,the role of buzz frequency on pollen release remains ***,nearly all of the existing studies describing vibrational properties of natural buzz-pollination are limited to bumblebees(Bombus)and carpenter bees(Xvlocopa)constraining our current understanding of this behavior and its ***,we attempted to minimize this shortcoming by testing whether flower anthers exhibit optimal frequency for pollen release and whether bees tune their buzzes to match these(optimal)*** true,certain frequencies will trigger more pollen release and lighter bees will reach buzz frequencies closer to this optimum to compensate their smaller buzz *** strategies were used to test these hypotheses:(i)the use of(artificial)vibrational playbacks in a broad range of buzz frequencies and amplitudes to assess pollen release by tomato plants(Solarium Ivcopersicum L.)and(ii)the recording of natural buzzes of Neotropical bees visiting tomato plants during *** playback experiment indicates that although buzz frequency does affect pollen release,no optimal frequency exists for *** addition,the recorded results of natural buzz-pollination reveal that buzz frequencies vary with bee genera and are not correlated with body ***,neither bees nor plants are tuned to optimal pollen release *** frequency of buzz-pollination is a likely consequence of the insect flight machinery adapted to reach higher accelerations,while flower plant response to buzz-pollination is the likely result of its pollen granular properties.

Aims the diversity and structure of forest edges are a central issue in ***,most studies have focused on anthropogenic for-est edges,being natural ones least *** studied the com-munities of shrubs and trees in natural edges of gallery forests with the main goal of learning what are the main factors that shape the structure and diversity of these natural sharp *** We evaluated 10 gallery forest sites,allocating in each of them three 15×20 m *** plots were laid out in relatively rectilinear stretches of forest edges,respecting a minimal distance of 10 m between each *** they are permanent plots and meant to study eventual fluctuations in the forest-grasslands limits,we allocated the plots with their longest side parallel to the forest edge and covering perpendicularly 5 m of the grassland and 10 m of *** the plots we identified,mapped and measured all shrub and tree individuals with diameter at breast height(DBH)≥1 *** Findings Although many differences exist among the communities in terms of density and basal area,all of them were highly dense and had relatively low basal *** addition,both the number of individu-als and the basal area increased rapidly towards the forest *** results also revealed that the edge communities are composed mainly by small individuals that demand a great amount of *** the vertical stratification and the proportion of the functional groups are similar among the sites yet change quickly in the first 10 m of the forest ***,the floristic similarities were low among the communities mainly due to the species turnover within each ***,although the overall structure is constant in the studied edges,the low floristic similarity among them possibly indicates that the species within the same functional groups are sub-stituting each other across the *** older and seemingly stable,our results showed the gallery forest edges are quite simila

AIM：to investigate the cytotoxic effects of spray-dried extracts of Phyllanthus niruri in combination with cis- platin on two cancer cell lines. MEtHODS： colorectal carcinoma （Ht29） and human hepatocellular carcinoma （HepG2） cells were treated with spray-dried extracts of Phyllanthus niruri （SdePN） either alone or in combination with cisplatin at differ- ent concentrations （0.5 mg/mL and 1 mg/mL） for 4 h and 24 h. to verify and quantify cancer cells treated with these products as well as identify the cell cycle stage and cell viability, we stained the cells with prop- idium iodide and assessed them by flow cytometry. the percentage of cells in different cell cycle phases was quantified and data were expressed as histo- grams. Significant differences between groups were determined using analysis of variance and Bonferroni＇s test, as indicated. A value of P 〈 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. RESULtS： SdePN had significantly different cyto- toxic effects on Ht29 （2.81 4- 0.11 vs 3.51 4- 1.13, P 〉 0.05） and HepG2 （5.07± 0.3 vs 15.9 ± 1.04, P 〈 0.001） cells when compared to control cells for 4 h. SdePN also had significantly different cytotoxic effects on Ht29 （1.91 ± 0.57 vs 4.53± 1.22, P 〉 0.05） and HepG2 （14.56 ± 1.6 vs 35.67 ± 3.94, P 〈 0.001） cells when compared to control cells for 24 h. Both cell lines were killed by cisplatin in a dose-dependent manner compared to control cells （HepG2 cells for 4 h： 10.78 ± 1.58 vs 53.89 ± 1.53, P 〈 0.001; 24 h： 8.9 ± 1.43 vs 62.78 ± 1.87, P 〈 0.001 and Ht29 cells for 4 h： 9.52 ±0.913 vs 49.86 ± 2.89, P 〈 0.001; 24 h： 11.78 ± 1.05 vs 53.34 ± 2.65, P 〈 0.001）. In Ht29 cells, pretreat- ment with SdePN and subsequent treatment with cis-platin resulted in a greater number of cells being killed （12.78 ± 1.01 vs 93.76 ± 1.6, P 〈 0.001）. BAcKGROUND 1,3-beta-D-glucan(BG)is a ubiquitous cell wall component of gut *** hypothesized that the serum levels of BG could reflect active intestinal inflammation in patients with inflammatory bowel *** to determine whether the serum BG concentrations correlate with intestinal *** A prospective observational study was performed in a tertiary referral center,from 2016 to 2019,in which serum BG was determined in 115 patients with crohn’s disease(cD),51 with ulcerative colitis(Uc),and 82 controls using a photometric detection *** activity was determined by ileocolonoscopy,histopathology,magnetic resonance enterography,and biomarkers,including fecal calprotectin(Fc),c-reactive protein,and a panel of *** ability of BG to detect active vs inactive disease was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic *** subgroup analysis,serial BG was used to assess the response to therapeutic *** the serum BG levels were higher in cD patients than in controls(P=0.0001).the BG levels paralleled the endoscopic activity in cD patients and histologic activity and combined endoscopic and histologic activity in both cD and Uc *** area under the curve(AUc)in receiver operating characteristic analysis to predict endoscopic activity was 0.694[95%confidence interval(cI):0.60-0.79;P=0.001]in cD,and 0.662(95%cI:0.51-0.81;P=0.066)in Uc *** AUc in receiver operating characteristic analysis to predict histologic activity was 0.860(95%cI:0.77-0.95;PcD,and 0.786(95%cI:0.57-0.99;P=0.015)in Uc *** cut-off values of BG for both endoscopic and histologic activity were 60μg/mL in cD,and 40μg/mL in Uc *** analysis showed that the results based on BG of 40 and 60μg/mL were more specific for predicting endoscopic activity(71.8%and 87.2%for cD;and 87.5%and 87.5%for Uc,respectively)than Fc(53.3%and 66.7%for cD;and 20%and 80%for Uc,respectively);and
