The military population face a unique set of risk factors that may increase the risk of being diagnosed with *** brain injury(TBI)and post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)have a higher prevalence in this group in comparison to the civilian *** delving into the individual relationships between TBI and dementia,and PTSD and dementia,we are able to better explore dementia in the military and veteran *** there are some inconsistencies in results,the TBI-dementia association has become more widely ***-tosevere TBI has been found to increase the risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.A correlation between PTSD and dementia has been established,however,whether or not it is a causal relationship remains *** such as blast,combat and chemical exposure may occur during a deployment,along with TBI and/or PTSD diagnosis,and can impact the risk of ***,there is a lack of literature exploring the direct effects of deployment on dementia *** problems have been observed to occur in those following TBI,PTSD and *** sleep has been associated with possible dementia *** limited studies have focused on the link between sleep and dementia in military and veteran populations,sleep is a valuable factor to study due to its association and interconnection with other military/veteran *** review aims to inform of various risk factors to the cognitive health of military members and veterans:TBI,PTSD,deployment,and sleep.

War and combat exposure pose great risks to the vision *** recently,vision related deficiencies and impairments have become common with the increased use of powerful explosive devices and the subsequent rise in incidence of traumatic brain injury(TBI).Studies have looked at the effects of injury severity,aetiology of injury and the stage at which visual problems become *** was little discrepancy found between the frequencies or types of visual dysfunctions across blast and non-blast related groups,however complete sight loss appeared to occur only in those who had a blast-related ***,the more severe the injury,the greater the likelihood of specific visual disturbances occurring,and a study found total sight loss to only occur in cases with greater *** of mild TBI(mTBI)is *** able to identify a potential TBI via visual symptoms may offer a new avenue for diagnosis.

Steel Surface Defect Recognition in Smart Manufacturing Using Deep Ensemble Transfer Learning-Based Techniques

Smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 are transforming traditional manufacturing processes by utilizing innovative technologies such as the artificial intelligence(AI)and internet of things(IoT)to enhance efficiency,reduce costs,and ensure product *** light of the recent advancement of Industry 4.0,identifying defects has become important for ensuring the quality of products during the manufacturing *** this research,we present an ensemble methodology for accurately classifying hot rolled steel surface defects by combining the strengths of four pre-trained convolutional neural network(CNN)architectures:VGG16,VGG19,Xception,and Mobile-Net V2,compensating for their individual *** evaluated our methodology on the Xsteel surface defect dataset(XSDD),which comprises seven different *** ensemble methodology integrated the predictions of individual models through two methods:model averaging and weighted *** evaluation showed that the model averaging ensemble achieved an accuracy of 98.89%,a recall of 98.92%,a precision of 99.05%,and an f1-score of 98.97%,while the weighted averaging ensemble reached an accuracy of 99.72%,a recall of 99.74%,a precision of 99.67%,and an f1-score of 99.70%.The proposed weighted averaging ensemble model outperformed the model averaging method and the individual models in detecting defects in terms of accuracy,recall,precision,and *** analysis with recent studies also showed the superior performance of our methodology.

MPB:A modified Poisson blending technique

Image cloning has many useful applications,such as removing unwanted objects,fixing damaged parts of images,and panorama stitching. Instead of using pixel intensities,the gradient domain is used in Poisson image editing; however,it suffers from two main problems: color bleeding and bleeding *** this paper,a modified Poisson blending(MPB)technique is presented which ensures dependency on the boundary pixels of both target and source images rather than just those of the target. The problem of bleeding artifacts is reduced. This makes the proposed technique suitable for use in video compositing as it avoids the flickering caused by bleeding *** reduce the problem of color bleeding,we use an additional alpha compositing step. Our experimental results using the proposed technique show that MPB reduces the bleeding problems and generates more natural composited images than other techniques.

We study the Lpboundedness of singular integral operators along surfaces of revolution on product spaces. The Lpboundedness for these operators are obtained under very weak conditions on kernels. Our results are new and they improve several previously known results. furthermore, they are natural extensions of many known results on singular integrals in the one-parameter setting and they subsume many other corresponding results on the product space setting.

A planar honeycomb monolayer of siligraphene （SIC7） could be a prospective medium for clean energy storage due to its light weight, and its remarkable mechanical and unique electronic properties. By employing van der Waals- induced first principles calculations based on density functional theory （DfT）, we have explored the structural, electronic, and hydrogen （H2） storage characteristics of SiC7 sheets decorated with various light metals. The binding energies of lithium （Li）, sodium （Na）, potassium （K）, magnesium （Mg）, calcium （Ca）, scandium （Sc）, and titanium （Ti） dopants on a SiC7 monolayer were studied at various doping concentrations, and found to be strong enough to counteract the metal clustering effect. We further verified the stabilities of the metallized SiC7 sheets at room temperature using ab initio molecular dynamics （MD） simulations. Bader charge analysis revealed that upon adsorption, due to the difference in electronegativity, all the metal adatorns donated a fraction of their electronic charges to the SiC7 sheet. Each partially charged metal center on the SiC7 sheets could bind a maximum of 4 to 5 H2 molecules. A high H2 gravimetric density was achieved for several dopants at a doping concentration of 12.50%. The H2 binding energies were found to fall within the ideal range of 0.2-0.6 eV. Based on these findings, we propose that metal-doped SiC7 sheets can operate as efficient H2 storage media under ambient conditions.

Silver nanoparticles of mean size 16 nm were synthesized by inert gas condensation （IGC） method. Crystalline structure, morphology and nanoparticles size estimation were conducted by X-ray diffraction （XRD） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. Antibacterial activity of these silver nanoparticles as a function of particles concentration against gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli （E. coli） was carried out in liquid as well as solid growth media. Scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and TEM studies showed that silver nanoparticles after interaction with *** have adhered to and penetrated into the bacterial cells. Antibacterial properties of silver nanoparticles are attributed to their total surface area, as a larger surface to volume ratio of nanoparticles provides more efficient means for enhanced antibacterial activity.

Difficulty-aware prior-guided hierarchical network for adaptive segmentation of breast tumors

Breast tumor segmentation is vital to tumor detection at the early stages. Deep learning methods are typically used in automatic tumor segmentation tasks. However, in existing methods, the difference between pixels is disregarded, and the union network architecture is used to segment all pixels; these methods involve a tradeoff between accuracy and efficiency. A novel, difficulty-aware, prior-guided hierarchical network for the adaptive segmentation of breast tumors is presented herein. A difficulty prior learning module is proposed to learn the pixel’s difficulty prior to guild adaptive segmentation in the proposed network. To achieve a more accurate segmentation of hard pixels, a hard pixel processing unit is presented to learn more discriminative features for hard pixels. Experiments are conducted based on three datasets. The experimental results show that the proposed methods outperform traditional deep learning methods and achieve a balance between accuracy and efficiency.

Power swing and voltage collapse identification schemes for correct distance relay operation in power system

The new techniques were presented for preventing undesirable distance relay maloperation during voltage collapse and power swings in transmission grids. Initially, the work focused on the development of a fast detection of voltage collapse and a three-phase fault at transmission lines by using under impedance fault detector (UIfD) and support vector machine (SVM). Likewise, an intelligent approach was developed to discriminate a fault, stable swing and unstable swing, for correct distance relay operation by using the S-transform and the probabilistic neural network (PNN). To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques, simulations were carried out on the IEEE 39-bus test system using the PSS/E and MATLAB software.
