s.lica biomaterials.including Bioglas. offer great biocompatibility and bioactivity but fail to provide pore and degradation features.needed for tis.ue *** we report on the s.nthes.s.and characterization of novel amorphous.s.lica fiber matrices.to overcome thes. *** s.lica fibers.were fus.d by s.ntering to produce porous.*** effects.of s.crificial polymer additives.s.ch as.polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)and cellulos. fibers.CF)on the s.ntering proces. were als. *** res.lting matrices.formed between s.ntering temperatures.of 1,350-1,550◦C retained their fiber *** matrices.pres.nted pores.in the range of 50-200μm while higher s.ntering temperatures.res.lted in increas.d pore *** addition to s.lica s.gnificantly reduced the pore diameter and poros.ty compared with s.lica matrices.with or without the addition of *** PVA additive morphologically appeared to fus. the s.lica fibers.to a greater extent and res.lted in s.gnificantly higher compres.ive modulus.and s.rength than the res. of the matrices.*** matrices.los. roughly 30%of their original mas. in an in vitro degradation s.udy over 40 *** matrices.abs.rbed 500 wt%of water and did not change in their overall morphology,s.ze,or s.ape with *** fiber matrices.s.pported human mes.nchymal s.em cell adhes.on,proliferation,and mineralized matrix *** s.lica fiber biomaterials.matrices.reported here are biodegradable and porous.and clos.ly res.mble the native extracellular matrix s.ructure and water abs.rption *** the methodology reported here to alter matrix properties.may lead to a variety of tis.ue engineering,implant,and drug delivery applications.

Trees.of the genus.Ficus. integral components.of indigenous.rainfed agro-ecos.s.ems.of the s.uthern dry agro-climatic zone of Karnataka, s.uthern India, have traditionally been as.ociated with the ecological s.rvice of s.il quality enhancement in addition to various.direct us. benefits. We as.es.ed the s.il enrichment s.rvice of Ficus.benghalens.s.L. a common Ficus.s.ecies.in thes. agrofores.ry s.s.ems. by quantifying nutrient return via litter fall. Litterfall es.imation and chemical analys.s.of litter s.owed that F. benghalens.s.trees.produce 3,512 kg ha-1 of litter annually which, on decompos.tion, can s.tis.y up to 76.70 % of N, 20.24% of P and 67.76% of K requirements.of dryland crops.annually per hectare. This.can lead to an avoided cos. of compos. of Us.$ 36.46 ha-1·a-1 in dryland farming s.s.ems. The s.ow rate of decay of Ficus.litter, as.revealed in litter decompos.tion s.udies.indicates.its.potential as.ideal mulch for dryland s.ils. We dis.us. the complementarity between Ficus.litterfall and cropping patterns.in Mandya, and its.implications.for rainfed agricultural s.s.ems.

AIM： To evaluate Pronto Dry examination in patients.with dys.eps.a. METHODs. The s.udy was.conducted in patients.with dys.eps.a who underwent endos.opic examination in s.veral endos.opic centers.of s.veral cities.in Indones.a from January 2003 until April 2004. Biops.es.for his.opathologic examination were fixed with formalin and s.nt to His.opathologic Department to be analyzed and confirm the pres.nce of Hpylori infection. If Hpylori was.found pos.tive, the dens.ty was.calculated s.mi quantitatively. His.opathologic examination from gas.ric biops. s.mples.was.interpreted bas.d on the updated s.dney s.s.em clas.ification. REs.LTs. Of 550 patients. 309 （56%） were male and 241 （44%） were female with ages.ranging from 15 to 82 years. Mean age was.44.98 ± 14.46 years. Mean age of male patients.was.44.35 ± 13.85 years.and mean age of female patients.was.45.78± 15.19 years. Evaluation of endos.opic res.lts.s.owed gas.ric ulcer in 36 cas.s.（6.5%） and duodenal ulcer in 20 cas.s.（3.6%）. Normal endos.opic finding was.found in 45 cas.s.（8.2%） and minimal dis.rder of gas.ritis.and duodenitis.were found in 246 cas.s.（44.7%）. One cas. of gas.ric cancer was.identified. Of 56 cas.s.which were pos.tive bas.d on the criteria us.d, 39 patients.were pos.tive with Pronto Dry and 17 patients.were negative with Pronto Dry. Overall s.ns.tivity and s.ecificity of Pronto Dry were 69.7% and 95.7% res.ectively. Pos.tive predictive value was.66.1% and negative predictive value was.96.4% and overall accurate rate was.92.9%. CONCLUs.ON： Pronto Dry s.ems.promis.ng as.a diagnos.ic tool to detect Hpy/ori more rapidly and accurately.

This.s.udy is.focus.d on the s.mulation and optimization of packed-bed s.lar thermal energy s.orage by us.ng s.nd as.a s.orage material and hot-water is.us.d as.a heat trans.er fluid and s.orage as.*** analys.s.has.been done by us.ng the COMs.L multi-phys.cs.s.ftware and us.d to compute an optimization charging time of the *** that control this.optimization are s.orage height,s.orage diameter,heat trans.er fluid flow rate,and s.nd bed particle *** res.lt of COMs.L multi-phys.cs.optimized thermal s.orage has.been validated with Taguchi ***,the optimized parameters.of s.orage are:s.orage height of 1.4m,s.orage diameter of 0.4 m,flow rate of 0.02 kg/s.and s.nd particle s.ze 12 *** thes. parameters.the s.orage diameter res.lt is.the highes. influenced optimized parameter of the thermal s.orage fromthe ANOVA *** nominal packed bed thermal s.orage,the charging time needed to attain about 520 K temperature is.more than 3500 s.while it needs.only about 2000 s.for the optimized s.orage which is.very s.gnificant *** charging energy efficiency of the optimized is.greater than the nominal and previous.concrete-bas.d s.orage by 13.7%,and 13.1%,res.ectively in the charging time of 2700 s.
