Ploidy-, gender-, and dose-dependent alteration of selected biomarkers in Clarias gariepinus treated with benzo[a]pyrene

Naturally-occurring and artificially-induced polyploids have been documented in various fish species but to date no comparison has been reported of the impacts of ploidy on fish biomarker responses to organic *** study describes effects of ploidy,gender,and dose on biliary fluorescent aromatic compound（FAC） concentrations,hepatic ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase（EROD） and glutathione S-transferase（GST） activities in one of the most commonly cultured warm-water species,the African catfish Clarias *** matured male and female diploid and triploid fish were intraperitoneally（i.p.）injected with 0,5 or 25 mg/kg benzo[a]pyrene（BaP） and liver and gallbladder were sampled48 hr *** significant differences were found between ploidies in bile concentrations of7,8 dihydrodiolbenzo[a]pyrene（7,8D BaP）,1-hydroxybenzo[a]pyrene（1-OH BaP） or3-hydroxybenzo[a]pyrene（3-OH BaP）.However,concentrations of the biliary FACs did differ between males and females at different dose of injection with generally higher concentrations in females at the low dose of BaP and higher concentrations in males at the higher BaP *** EROD activity did not exhibit gender-dependent difference,whereas it was significantly higher in triploids than *** activities were not significantly influenced by any of the tested *** work advanced our understanding of the role of ploidy,gender,and dose in biotransformation of pollutants in fish.

Microplastics are emergent contaminants threatening aquatic organisms including aquacultured *** study investigated the effects of high-density polyethylene(HDPE,100 to 125 mm)on yellow perch(Perca flavescens)based on integrative evaluation including growth performance,nutritional status,nutrient metabolism,fish health,and gut microbial *** test diets(0,1,2,4,or 8 g HDPE/100 g diet)containing 41%protein and 10.5%lipid were fed to juvenile perch(average body weight,25.9±0.2 g;n=15)at a feeding rate of 1.5%to 2.0%body weight *** feeding trial was conducted in a flow-through water system for 9 wk with 3 tanks per treatment and 15 yellow perch per *** mortality or HDPE accumulation in the fish was found in any *** gain and condition factor of fish were not significantly impacted by HDPE(P>0.05).Compared to the control group,fish fed the 8%HDPE diet had significantly decreased levels of protein and ash(P<0.05).In response to the increasing levels of HDPE exposure,the hepatosomatic index value,hepatocyte size,and liver glycogen level were increased,but lipid content was reduced in the liver *** to the control treatment,fish fed the 8%HDPE diet had significant accumulations of total bile acids and different metabolism pathways such as bile acid biosynthesis,pyruvate metabolism,and carnitine *** enterocyte necrosis was documented in the foregut of fish fed the 2%or 8%HDPE diet;and significant cell sloughing was observed in the midgut and hindgut of fish fed the 8%HDPE *** fed the 2%HDPE diet harbored different microbiota communities compared to the control *** study demonstrates that HDPE ranging from 100 to 125 mm in feed can be evacuated by yellow perch with no impact on ***,dietary exposure to HDPE decreased whole fish nutrition quality,altered nutrient metabolism and the intestinal histopathology as well as microbiota community of yellow *** results indicate that extende

目的:观察使用丝裂霉素C小梁切除术成功/合格史的患者超声乳化术后眼压(IOP)控制及滤过泡功能。方法:回顾性队列研究。收集2013-01-01/2015-12-31期间接受小梁切除术并随后进行白内障手术患者的数据。所有患者都曾成功/合格地进行过小梁切除术。他们通过透明角膜切口进行了简单的超声乳化手术。用Goldmann眼压计进行术后眼压随访,复查滤过泡情况。观察术后IOP控制、视力改善、抗青光眼药物的数量以及从小梁切除术到超声乳化术的时间,并与对照组进行比较。结果:共13例15眼患者满足了研究标准,并且在小梁切除术后进行了简单的超声乳化术。其中2眼为继发性青光眼,13眼为原发性青光眼。所有的超声乳化术均在小梁切除术后至少6mo进行(平均14.7±4.3mo)。白内障术前仅1眼(6.7%)需要抗青光眼药物治疗,超声乳化术1a后,增加到4眼(26.7%),超声乳化术2a后,进一步增加到8眼(53.3%)。术后2a所需抗青光眼药水的数量在2~4种之间。在15眼中,白内障术前(平均13.4±2.9 mmHg)与超声乳化术后1a(平均14.1±3.2 mmHg,P=0.357)和2a(平均15.1±3.3 mmHg,P=0.212)的IOP控制无显著性差异。然而,术前平均LogMAR视力为1.52±1.00,术后平均视力为0.53±0.54,超声乳化术后的视力改善是显著的(P=0.000)。结论:结果显示,在不影响眼压控制的情况下,小梁切除术后白内障患者的视力明显改善。然而,手术后,特别是白内障手术后2a,抗青光眼眼药水的使用数量增加,证明了术后滤过泡功能的降低。白内障超声乳化手术后,患者应该被告知重新开始服用抗青光眼药物的可能性。白内障和青光眼手术的时机和顺序应优化,以获得最佳的手术效果。

Phenolic antioxidants are effective in extending the shelf life of foods. In the past one decade many different methods have been developed for the evaluation of antioxidant power. Most of them are based on the measurement of the ability of the antioxidants to scavenge radicals. One of the frequently used radical scavenging methods is the DPPH test. The DPPH test is based on the bleaching of the stable radical of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Another method, the Oxygen Bomb Test (OBT) is used to predict stability and evaluate antioxidant systems in actual substrates. Oxygen uptake by the sample is measured in a closed system. The rate at which oxygen is consumed indicates the oxidative stability of the tested substrate. In this present study phenolic antioxidant products namely butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), gallic acid, green tea extract (with 75% catechins), octyl gallate, propyl gallate and tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) were subjected to the DPPH test and OBT method and the results compared. Fish oil was used as the substrate in OBT method and the antioxidant dosage used was at100 ppm.

To assess the peripheral refractive changes that occur when eye growth decelerates in *** We measured peripheral refraction and on-axis vitreous chamber depth on a total of 53 marmosets;36 treated monocularly for 12 weeks 9 hrs/day(26 with-5 D contact lenses,10 with+5 D)and 17 untreated *** the 26 marmosets treated with-5 D,10 wore contact lenses 9 hrs/day without interruptions and were mea-sured at the end of 10 weeks of treatment(T10)and after 4 weeks of recovery(R14).Eight had both contact lenses removed for 30 mins twice/day(mid-morning and mid-afternoon)during the first four weeks of treatment(early interruption group)and eight had the lenses removed during the second four weeks of treatment(late interruption group).The two interruption groups were measured after 4,8 and 12 weeks of treatment only(T4,T8,T12).
