Hydropower development has become an important driver of habitat loss and fragmentation across lowland tropical *** ample evidence on the detrimental effects of insular habitat fragmentation on biodiversity,invertebrate taxa,that may be critical to ecosystem functioning,have been *** assessed the assemblage-level responses of social wasps to forest insularization induced by the Balbina Hydroelectric Dam in Central Brazilian *** Malaise trapping,we captured wasps on 27 forest islands and three continuous *** constructed Generalized Linear Models and employed a model selection approach to examine the impact of local variables(fire severity(fIRE)and basal area of pioneer tree species(PIOneER))and landscape-scale variables(amount of habitat(COVER))on patterns of species richness,composition,and body size of wasps.A total of 374 individuals(29 species)were collected across all sampling *** was the main predictor of species richness,while PIOneER was the only variable that explained variation in community composition,with a negative effect on body *** results add evidence to the pervasive impacts of large hydroelectric dams on tropical forest biodiversity,and suggest that social wasps,among other invertebrates,can be used as bioindicators in infrastructure development projects.

The thymine DNA glycosylase （TDG） is a multifunctional enzyme,which is essential for embryonic *** mediates the base excision repair （BER） of G：T and G：U DNA mismatches arising from the deamination of 5-methyl cytosine （5-MeC） and cytosine,*** studies have pointed at a role of TDG during the active demethylation of 5-MeC within CpG *** interacts with the histone acetylase CREB-binding protein （CBP） to activate CBP-dependent *** addition,TDG also interacts with the retinoic acid receptor α （raRα）,resulting in the activation of raRα target *** we provide evidence for the existence of a functional ternary complex containing TDG,CBP and activated raRα.Using global transcriptome profiling,we uncover a coupling of de novo methylation-sensitive and ra-dependent transcription,which coincides with a significant subset of CBP target *** introduction of a point mutation in TDG,which neither affects overall protein structure nor BER activity,leads to a significant loss in ternary complex stability,resulting in the deregulation of ra targets involved in cellular networks associated with DNA replication,recombination and *** thus demonstrate for the first time a direct coupling of TDG＇s epigenomic and transcription regulatory function through ternary complexes with CBP and raRα.

Understanding the immune responses elicited by SARS-CoV-2 infection is critical in terms of protection against reinfection and,thus,for public health policy and vaccine development for *** this study,using either live SARS-CoV-2 particles or retroviruses pseudotyped with the SARS-CoV-2 S viral surface protein(Spike),we studied the neutralizing antibody(nAb)response in serum samples from a cohort of 140 SARS-CoV-2 qPCR-confirmed infections,including patients with mild symptoms and also more severe forms,including those that required intensive *** show that nAb titers correlated strongly with disease severity and with anti-spike IgG ***,patients from intensive care units exhibited high nAb titers;conversely,patients with milder disease symptoms had heterogeneous nAb titers,and asymptomatic or exclusive outpatient-care patients had no or low *** found that nAb activity in SARS-CoV-2-infected patients displayed a relatively rapid decline after recovery compared to individuals infected with other ***,we found an absence of cross-neutralization between endemic coronaviruses and SARS-CoV-2,indicating that previous infection by human coronaviruses may not generate protective nAbs against ***,we found that the D614G mutation in the spike protein,which has recently been identified as the current major variant in Europe,does not allow neutralization ***,our results contribute to our understanding of the immune correlates of SARS-CoV-2-induced disease,and rapid evaluation of the role of the humoral response in the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 is warranted.

Cardiovascular Risk and Subclinical Atherosclerosis in Senegalese Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis:A Cross-Sectional Study in a Single Centre

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (ra) is associated with increasing of cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality due to accelerated atherosclerosis. Several studies showed also the increasing of the prevalence of subclinical atherosclerosis, but there are little data from sub-Saharan Africa. The aim of our study was to assess the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors, subclinical carotid atherosclerosis and the ability of the Systematic Coronary Risk Estimation (SCORE) modified by European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) to predict the high CV risk in our patients. Patients and Method: We conducted a cross sectional study in Senegalese patients with ra. The ra was retained according to 2010 American College of Rheumatology (ACR)-European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) criteria. Patients with ra were assessed in a clinical research consultation. Results: We included 50 ra patients. The mean age was 44 years (+/- 12.37) and the sex-ratiowas 0.06. The frequency distribution of traditional cardiovascular risk factors was: hypertension (HT) (30%), diabetes-mellitus (6%), smoking (2%), no-exercise (22%), obesity (16%), metabolic syndrome (8%). fifty-eight percent of patients were classified at low cardiovascular risk according to mSCORE. 51.7% of patients classified as moderate-risk according to mSCORE, were reclassified as high cardiovascular risk according to carotid ultrasound evaluation (gold-standard). The sensitivity of the mSCORE in the prediction of high CV risk was low at 20%. In the present study, the prevalence of carotid subclinical atherosclerosis was 20%. Age (>45 years) and HT were correlated to subclinical atherosclerosis. Conclusion: In the present study, the prevalence of atherosclerosis in ra patients was higher than expected frequency in comparison with the prevalence in Senegalese general population. 背景:中国大多数精神科住院患者是由家人强制性入院,导致住院时间相对较长和再次住院率相对较低。然而,这种模式随着新颁布的中国精神卫生法(颁布于2013年)可能发生变化,该法限定了强制性精神科入院为那些对自己或他人产生危险的小部分精神疾病患者。目标:评估中国广州精神科住院患者再次住院率的相关因素。方法:对从中国最大的精神病医院之一——广州市精神病医院收集来的数据进行回顾性分析,使用Cox回归模型评估年龄、性别、诊断、婚姻状况、就业状况之间的关系,与主要照顾者的关系、医疗保险、指标住院的时间、以往的入院次数之间的关系,进而评估出院后一年内再住院的风险。使用多因素回归分析来评估随访一年中再次住院总时间的相关因素。结果:2011年1月至2012年12月31日间3455例住院患者的平均住院时间(标准差)为65.7(66.3)天,476(13.8%)名患者出院后一年内再入院一次或多次。在将再入院所有可能的预测因素进入多因素生存分析后,指标住院前的以往住院次数是再次住院的唯一有统计学意义的预测因子。与再住院总时间显著相关的唯一因素是指标住院的长短。结论:缩短住院时间并没有增加中国南方一家大型公立精神病院的患者再住院率。这表明,根据中国的新法规,大部分病人自愿入院时不仅不会导致再次住院率的增加,可能还会出现预期的精神病患者的住院时间的缩短。前瞻性研究将需要结合更全面的结果评估(包括患者功能,服药依从性,和家庭负担)来监测精神卫生法对患者和精神卫生服务分布的影响。
