Background Left ventricular filling pressure(LVFP)is an important early indicator of heart failure that is more prevalent in Caucasians than ***-induced change in LVFP may provide more incremental information to assess dias-tolic *** it was unknown whether there was difference in LVFP following acute exercise between Caucasians and *** The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of LVFP following an acute 45-min aerobic exercise in healthy Caucasian and Chinese *** Sixty participants(30 Caucasians and 30 Chinese,half was male,respectively)performed an acute bout of aero-bic exercise at 70%of heart rate ***,Left ventricle(LV)morphology and function parameters were measured at baseline,then at 30-min and 60-min *** There was a similar LV ejection fraction,LV fraction shorten,lateral E/eʹand lateral eʹbetween Chinese and Caucasians at *** was a significant race-by-time interaction in lateral E/eʹand lateral eʹbetween Chinese and Caucasians from pre-exercise to 30 min and 60 min after acute aerobic ***ΔE/eʹwas significant correlated with baseline systolic blood *** The change of LVFP was different between Chinese and Caucasians following acute aerobic *** racial differences may be primarily caused by the changes of LV relaxation following exercise,baseline systolic blood pressure may also contribute to the differences.

Additively manufactured Ti–Ta–Cu alloys for the next-generation load-bearing implants

Bacterial colonization of orthopedic implants is one of the leading causes of failure and clinical complexities for load-bearing metallic implants. Topical or systemic administration of antibiotics may not offer the most efficient defense against colonization, especially in the case of secondary infection, leading to surgical removal of implants and in some cases even limbs. In this study, laser powder bed fusion was implemented to fabricate Ti3Al2V alloy by a 1:1 weight mixture of CpTi and Ti6Al4V powders. Ti-Tantalum(Ta)–Copper(Cu) alloys were further analyzed by the addition of Ta and Cu into the Ti3Al2V custom alloy. The biological,mechanical, and tribo-biocorrosion properties of Ti3Al2V alloy were evaluated. A 10 wt.% Ta(10Ta) and 3 wt.% Cu(3Cu) were added to the Ti3Al2V alloy to enhance biocompatibility and impart inherent bacterial resistance. Additively manufactured implants were investigated for resistance against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus strains of bacteria for up to 48 h. A 3 wt.% Cu addition to Ti3Al2V displayed improved antibacterial efficacy, i.e.78%–86% with respect to CpTi. mechanical properties for Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy were evaluated, demonstrating excellent fatigue resistance, exceptional shear strength, and improved tribological and tribo-biocorrosion characteristics when compared to Ti6Al4V. In vivo studies using a rat distal femur model revealed improved early-stage osseointegration for alloys with10 wt.% Ta addition compared to CpTi and Ti6Al4V. The 3 wt.% Cu-added compositions displayed biocompatibility and no adverse infammatory response in vivo. Our results establish the Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy’s synergistic effect on improving both in vivo biocompatibility and microbial resistance for the next generation of load-bearing metallic implants.

Approximately 10%-20% of the cases of acute pancreatitis have acute necrotizing pancreatitis. The infection of pancreatic necrosis is typically associated with a prolonged course and poor prognosis. The multidisciplinary, minimally invasive “step-up” approach is the cornerstone of the management of infected pancreatic necrosis(IPN). Endosonography-guided transmural drainage and debridement is the preferred and minimally invasive technique for those with IPN. However, it is technically not feasible in patients with early pancreatic/peripancreatic fluid collections(PFC)(med;in PFC in paracolic gutters/pelvis;or in walled off pancreatic necrosis(WOPN) distant from the stomach/duodenum. Percutaneous drainage of these infected PFC or WOPN provides rapid infection control and patient stabilization. In a subset of patients where sepsis persists and necrosectomy is needed, the sinus drain tract between WOPN and skin-established after percutaneous drainage or surgical necrosectomy drain, can be used for percutaneous direct endoscopic necrosectomy(PDEN). There have been technical advances in PDEN over the last two *** esophageal fully covered self-expandable metal stent, like the lumen-apposing metal stent used in transmural direct endoscopic necrosectomy, keeps the drainage tract patent and allows easy and multiple passes of the flexible endoscope while performing PDEN. There are several advantages to the PDEN procedure. In expert hands, PDEN appears to be an effective, safe, and minimally invasive adjunct to the management of IPN and may particularly be considered when a conventional drain is in situ by virtue of previous percutaneous or surgical intervention. In this current review, we summarize the indications, techniques, advantages, and disadvantages of PDEN. In addition, we describe two cases of PDEN in distinct clinical situations, followed by a review of the most recent literature.

Epidemiology of maxillofacial Trauma in Pediatric and Adolescent Population: An Institutional Experience of 6 Years

Introduction: Facial fractures are uncommon injuries in children. Pediatric maxillofacial fractures constitute 1% to 15% of all facial fractures, but show different clinical features when compared with adult patients. Worldwide, the major causes of fractures in children are accidents, falls, violence, and sports- related accidents. Facial trauma in children may result in injury to the facial growth centers, leading to subsequent developmental abnormalities in the injured area. Patients & methods: Data of pediatric and adolescent patients (0 - 17 years), with a history of trauma, has been compiled over a period of 6 years. History, clinical and radiographic data records were analyzed. Compilation was done in the following categories;age and sex distribution, etiology, site of trauma and associated soft tissue injuries were recorded. The treatment rendered has also been mentioned. Results: A total of 340 patient records were assessed. Demographic data, etiology, type of fracture, associated injury and treatment rendered were recorded. It was found that males (54.7%) were more frequently affected than females (45.3%). Incidence of trauma was more in children belonging to the pre-school age group (38.5%) and the most common etiology was sports-related injuries (43.8%). Dentoalveolar fractures were the most common type (58.5%) of fractures seen in the patients. most of the patients were managed by conservative treatment (35%) or closed reduction (48%), while a few required open reduction (7.9%). Conclusion: It is felt that this data will be useful in determining the pattern and etiology of maxillofacial trauma in pediatric patients in an Indian setting. Additionally, an outline of the treatment plan in different types of fractures is also summarized.

Structural,Wettability and Optical Investigation of Titanium Oxynitride Coatings:Effect of Various Sputtering Parameters

The objective of the present work is to investigate the effect of various sputtering parameters such as nitrogen flow rate, deposition time and sputtering pressure on structural, wettability and optical properties of titanium oxynitride films deposited on glass substrate by reactive magnetron sputtering. The X-ray diffraction graphs of titanium oxynitride films show evolution of various textures of TiO=N and TiN phases with increasing nitrogen flow rate and deposition time, but an increase in sputtering pressure from 4.0 to 8.0 Pa results in decline of various textures observed for TiO=Ny and TiN phases. The stress and strain calculated by sin2~ method are compressive, which decrease with increasing nitrogen flow rate from 55 to I00 sccm （standard cubic centimeter per minute） and increase with increasing deposition time from 80 to I40 min due to atomic penning effect and increasing thickness of the deposited films. The titanium oxynitride films have contact angle values above 90 deg., indicating that films are hydrophobic. The maximum contact angle of I09.1 deg. is observed at deposition time of 140 min. This water repellent property can add value to potential protective, wear and corrosion resistant application of titanium oxynitride films. The band gap decreases from 1.98 to 1.83 eV as nitrogen flow rate is increased from 55 to 100 sccm; it decreases from 1.93 to 1.79 eV as deposition time is increased from 80 to 140 min as more nitrogen incorporation results in higher negative potential of valence band N2p orbital. But it increases from 2.26 to 2.34 eV for titanium oxynitride films as sputtering pressure increases from 4.0 to 8.0 Pa.

metallurgical analysis of a failed maraging steel shear screw used in the band separation system of a satellite launch vehicle

maraging steels have excellent combination of strength and toughness and are extensively used for a variety of aerospace applications. In one such critical application, this steel was used to fabricate shear screws of a stage separation system in a satellite launch vehicle. During assembly preparations, one of the shear screws which connected the separation band and band end block has failed at the first thread. microstructural analysis revealed that the crack originated from the root of the thread and propagated in an intergranular mode. The failure is attributed to combined effect of stress and corrosion leading to stress corrosion cracking.

Assessment of maxillary and mandibular Bone mineral Density in Controlled Type II Diabetes in Completely Edentulous Patients Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography—A Cross Sectional Study with Comparison Group

This study was undertaken to assess and compare bone mineral density in nondiabetic and controlled diabetic subjects using cone beam computed tomography. A group of 60 completely edentulous patients, comprising of 30 nondiabetic and 30 controlled type 2 diabetics between the age group of 45 - 75 years, were enrolled in the study. Glycemic control of the diabetics was assessed using glycosylated hemoglobin test and level between 6.1% - 8% was considered controlled. A radiographic stent was fabricated for each patient by using chemically cured transparent acrylic resin. Bone densities at trabecular, buccal and lingual cortical regions of maxillary and mandibular ridges were measured by a cone beam tomography machine in Hounsfield units. The data thus obtained at 10 prospective oral implant sites of maxillary and mandibular ridges were tabulated and analyzed using STATA, version 14.0 statistical software. This study results showed no significant changes in the bone mineral density between the nondiabetic and controlled diabetic subjects. Within the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that bone mineral density does not seem to be affected in controlled type 2 diabetic patients.
