Caseous lymphadenitis (CL) is a chronic infectious disease caused by Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis (C. pseudotuberculosis) that is transmitted mainly by contact with contaminated exudate wounds. Caseous lymphadenitis affects different species of animals and is considered an occupational zoonotic disease. CL is responsible for important economic losses in the small ruminant industry, which include decreased production, damaged quality of milk and wool, reproductive disorders, total or partial confiscation of carcasses, and depreciation of the skin. Caseous lymphadenitis disease can present in two clinical pictures: a skin or superficial picture and a visceral or deep picture. The presumptive diagnosis of CL in the skin is based on the exploration of superficial lymph nodes. These have little value in diagnosing visceral CL, where the main sign is emaciation. The prevention and control of CL involve identifying the skin condition and debriding the abscesses. In addition to the treatment of superficial lesions, the animal facilities must be repaired and adapted. To avoid exposure of negative herds to CL, new animals must be subjected to observation to identify any of the clinical manifestations. Another form of control is vaccination, though only some countries have commercial vaccines. General information on the etiological agent and its characteristics can be used to improve the understanding of this disease.

Background: This work evaluated the capacity of a dry emulsion as a carrier of viable microorganisms with potential use as prophylaxis of infectious diseases. Methods: The aqueous phase containing P. multocida not viable in PBS was emulsified in mineral oil to obtain a w/o emulsion. The microorganisms remained stable and only in two cases (n = 6) did the bacterial concentration decrease. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) revealed a structure of a system with the organized association of particles with cubic symmetry. Using two ex vivo bioadhesion systems, it was demonstrated that the disperse-adsorbed system is capable of adhering to the intestinal mucosa and remains adhered for long periods of time. Results: The no viability of the bacteria in the dry emulsion and the possibility of controlled release were confirmed. In vivo trial was conducted in pigs. It was possible to locate the emulsion and the bacteria attached to the gut of the living animal. An ELISA kit was used to monitor the mean antibody titer of treated pigs over a 2-week period, and a classic primary response curve occurred when the titer was plotted against time. Conclusion: We propose the disperse-adsorbed system as an alternative to commonly used vehicles for immunogens in the oral vaccines.

Background: Combinations of antibiotics are used to increase the therapeutic options via the simultaneous activities of two compounds. The goals of combination therapy are to resolve the bacterial infection while reducing the treatment cost. The use of kitasamycin is used frequently and in addition to other antibiotics, the desired combinations were not found. Methods: Fields strains: we use serotypes 1, 3, 5 y 7. Microbial culturing: The serotypes 1, 3, 5 y 7 was identified. Antibiotics and Reagents: The antibiotics used were kitasamycin;enrofloxacin and oxolinic acid. The following combinations were tested: a) kitasamycin with enrofloxacin;b) kitasamycin with norfloxacin;and c) kitasamycin with oxolinic acid. Preparation of bacterial suspensions: The cultures were adjusted to a concentration of 5 colony-forming units per ml (CFU/ml) using the same sterile culture medium as the diluent. Determination of the fractional inhibitory concentrations (FICs): To test each combination and their interactions and to calculate the fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) of each antibiotic. Calculation of the index of the fractional minimum inhibitory concentration (FMIC): The FMIC index was calculated by applying the following formula: FIC index = FIC of antibiotic A/FIC of antibiotic B. Results: What was found showed that: A combination of kitasamycin and norfloxacin has been shown to have an indifferent effect. A combination of kitasamycin and enrofloxacin had antagonistic effects against all of the Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serotypes studied. Finally, a combination of kitasamycin and oxolinic acid had antagonist effects against serotypes 1, 3 and 5 and a synergistic effect against serotype 7. Conclusion: The “in vitro” combination Kitasamycin-Norfloxacin showed an indifferent effect, and combination Kitasamycin and Enrofloxacin demonstrated an antagonistic interaction between these two anti

Methane from enteric fermentation is the gas with the greatest environmental impact emitted by ***(Lv)addition to feedstocks could be a strategy to mitigate rumen methane emissions via decreasing the population of methanogenic archaea(MA).Thus,this paper provides the first overview of the effects of Lv supplementation,focusing on the inhibition of methane production,rumen microbiota,and ruminal *** indicated that Lv treatment had a strong anti-methanogenic effect on pure strains of ***,there are uncertainties from in vitro rumen fermentation trials with complex substrates and rumen ***-state fermentation(SSF)has emerged as a cost-effective option to produce *** this way,SSF of agricultural residues as an Lv-carrier supplement in sheep and goats demonstrated a consistent decrease in ruminal methane *** experimental evidence for in vitro conditions showed that Lv did not affect the volatile fatty acids(VFA).However,in vivo experiments demonstrated that the production of VFA was *** did not negatively affect the digestibility of dry matter during in vitro and in vivo methods,and there is even evidence that it can induce an increase in *** the rumen microbiota,populations of MA were reduced,and no differences were detected in alpha and beta diversity associated with Lv ***,some changes in the relative abundance of the microbiota were *** studies are recommended on:(i)Lv biodegradation products and stability,as well as its adsorption onto the solid matter in the rumen,to gain more insight on the“available”or effective Lv concentration;and(ii)to determine whether the effect of Lv on ruminal fermentation also depends on the feed composition and different ruminants.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is an economically devastating disease with worldwide distribution caused by Betaarterivirus suid (PRRSV). The virion has great genetic and antigenic variability with a marked increase in virulence. Vaccines tested to date have been of little use in controlling the problems caused by PRRSV, so the present study was conceived to evaluate the antiviral effect of polymeric nanoparticles (PNPs) made with glycyrrhizic acid (GA). Recent work has proven that this nanoparticle system is stable. These nanoparticles have good GA carrying capacity, a size < 250 nm, a spherical morphology, and a wide safety range. The integrity of cell morphology can be maintained for up to 72 h. The antiviral effect of this nanoparticle system was tested in cultures of MARC-145 cells in pre- and coinfection assays with PRRSV to evaluate changes in cell morphology and effects on cell viability. The use of PNPsGA with the real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) decreased viral infection by 38% in 3 amplification cycles. These results suggest that this system has an antiviral effect against PRRSV under the study conditions established.

The design of urban squares in the city of mendoza,Argentina,is based on aesthetic and landscaping criteria without consider strategies to enhance the benefits that green areas generate on the city's micrometeorological *** paper aims to evaluate different design alternatives with the purpose to determine which proportion and distribution of green and sealed areas contributes to achieve the best conditions in terms of thermal behavior and ***-met software was used to simulate thermal conditions over twenty three scenarios,and COMFA method was employed to determine comfort in the scenarios that show the best thermal behaviour and are representative of current design *** results show that the most effective scheme for the memorial squares rehabilitation is the one concentrating 60%of woodlot around a sealed center with an area that does not exceed 20%the square *** effective alternative is the one concentrating 60%of woodlot at the center of the *** findings highlight the importance of an adequate relation between proportion and distribution of woodlot/sealed areas to improve thermal performance and comfort conditions of open spaces.

The oxygen therapy is a universal treatment in the hospital setting, especially in the critical care units. The purpose of this therapy is to avoid hypoxemia and to ensure an adequate supply of oxygen to the tissues. But often we overlook the potential adverse effects of oxygen therapy. Oxygen produces lung damage and induces apoptosis and cell death creating an imbalance between the production of reactive species of oxygen and the antioxidant mechanisms. The oxygen therapy inhibits systemic adaptive changes induced by hypoxia, disrupting compensatory mechanisms and causing deleterious effects. We are faced with a challenge in order to treat patients with respiratory failure, counterbalancing hypoxia with hyperoxia-induced damage and introducing therapy lines that are innovative but not risk-free as permissive hypoxemia. Currently many questions remain unresolved and there are not enough clinical studies that validate the therapeutic optimal oxygenation ranges. These ranges may differ depending on each patient and the underlying disease.

The scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI) is a high-density lipoprotein (HDL) receptor involved in reverse cholesterol transport. Some studies reported the association to be stronger in the presence of diabetes. The full length gene encoding SR-BI is comprised in 13 exons that are alternatively spliced to produce two major transcripts: the full length SR-BI and the splice variant SR-BII, in which exon 12 is skipped. Considering that type 2 diabetes status is characterized by changes in the concentration of plasma lipids, modifications in lipoprotein size and composition, which may be important modulators of the SR-BI expression;the aims of the study were to examine the influence of SR-BI polymorphism (rs838895) on lipid profile and SR-BI mRNA expression in a population of diabetic patients living in Juana Koslay City. Blood samples were drawn from controls (n = 40) and Type 2 diabetic patients (n = 66) and DNA and total RNA were obtained. SR-BI mRNA expression was measured by RT-PCR and SR-BI polymorphism was detected by Tetra Primer ARMSPCR. Compared to controls, diabetic patients had higher fasting serum glucose, glycated hemoglobin, triglycerides, total cholesterol, lowdensity lipoprotein cholesterol, and lower highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol. SR-BI mRNA expression was lower in T2DM when compared to controls, suggesting that the hyperglycemia presents in T2DM patients down-regulates SR-BI mRNA expression. Interestingly, we found that decreased SR-BI expression resulted in markedly increased plasma LDL concentrations in T2DM subjects, and the overexpression of SRBII isoform is responsible for the markedly increased plasma LDL-c concentrations. The polymorphism (rs838895) did not modify the mRNA level of SR-BI in leucocytes from control and diabetic patients. This study provides novel evidence suggesting that hyperglycemia may affect reverse cholesterol transport by controlling SRBI expression in diabetic patients.
