Honey vesicle-like nanoparticles protect aged liver from non-alcoholic steatohepatitis

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),an advanced form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD),has emerged as the leading cause of liver failure and related ***,no medication is specifically approved to treat NAFLD or *** we report that oral administration of honey vesiclelike nanoparticles(H-VLNs)to naturally aged mice protects the liver from NASH development.H-VLNs are dominantly taken up by Kupffer cells in the liver and suppress hepatic chronic inflammation and further development of fibrosis and nodule formation in aged *** their reported antiinflammasome function,H-VLNs are found to inhibit the transcriptional activities of C-JUN and nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB).MicroRNAs miR5119 and miR5108 and phenolic compound luteolin in H-VLNs are identified in suppressing both the C-JUN and NF-kB ***,oral intake of H-VLNs represents a promising new user-friendly modality to prevent the development of NASH.

Fitting Generalized Additive Logistic Regression Model with GAM Procedure

In dealing with nonparametric regression the GAM procedure is the most versatile of several new procedures. The terminology behind this procedure is more flexible than traditional parametric modeling tools. It relaxes the usual assumptions of parametric model and enables us to uncover structure to establish the relationship between independent variables and dependent variable in exponential family that may not be obvious otherwise. In this paper, we discussed two methods of fitting generalized additive logistic regression model, one based on Newton Raphson method and another based on iterative weighted least square method for first and second order Taylor series expansion. The use of the GAM procedure with the specified set of weights, using local scoring algorithm, was applied to real life data sets. The cubic spline smoother is applied to the independent variables. Based on nonparametric regression and smoothing techniques, this procedure provides powerful tools for data analysis.

Effect of Reduction in Peak Expiratory Flow Rate on Blood Pressure of Sand Stone Mine Workers

Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) measures the airflow through the bronchi and thus the degree of obstruction in the airways. Exposure to high concentration of respirable suspended particulate matter (RSPM) decreases the PEFR and the decrease depends upon the exposure concentration of particles and exposure duration. The decrease in PEFR is found to be responsible for increase in blood pressure (BP). Relationship between increase in BP and reduction in PEFR is not exactly linear but it can be considered as liner. It is noticed that if PEFR is reduced to about 50% to 60% in that case sudden increase in BP is recorded and behaviour of BP rise has complex pattern. It is also an established fact that if PEFR is reduced more than 50%, this is treated as severe respiratory problem. There are many factors (i.e. smoking habits, medical treatment, physiology, etc.) which may govern the increase of BP in this condition. Estimated relationship is found as: ISBP = 0.213 + 0.263 IPEF, IDBP = 0.102 + 0.176 IPEF.

According to the World Health Organization(WHO),oxidative stress(OS)is a significant contributor to male *** can be measured by a number of assays,all of which are either costly or time sensitive and/or require large semen volume andcomplex *** less expensive alternative is to quantify the oxidation-reduction potential(ORP)with the *** this international multi-center study,we assessed whether ORP levels measured by the MiOXSYS could distinguish semensamples that fall within the 2010 WHO normal reference values from those that do *** samples were collected from 2092patients in 9 countries;ORP was normalized to sperm concentration(mV/10^6 sperm/ml).Only those samples with a concentration>1×10^6 sperm ml1 were in *** results showed that 199 samples fell within the WHO no rmal refere nee range while theremaining 1893 samples did not meet one or more of the *** was negatively correlated with all semen parameters(P <0.01)except *** area under the curve for ORP was *** ORP cut-off value(1.34 mV/10^6 sperm/ml)was able todifferentiate specimens with abnormal semen parameters with 98.1%sensitivity,40.6%specificity,94.7%positive predictivevalue(PPV)and 66.6%negative predictive value(NPV).When used as an adjunct to traditional semen analysis,ORP levels mayhelp identify altered functional status of spermatozoa caused by OS in cases of idiopathic male infertility and in male partners ofcouples sufferi ng recurre nt pregna ncy loss,and thereby directi ng these men to relevant medical therapies and lifestyle modificati ons.

An Approach to Parallelization of SIFT Algorithm on GPUs for Real-Time Applications

Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) algorithm is a widely used computer vision algorithm that detects and extracts local feature descriptors from images. SIFT is computationally intensive, making it infeasible for single threaded im-plementation to extract local feature descriptors for high-resolution images in real time. In this paper, an approach to parallelization of the SIFT algorithm is demonstrated using NVIDIA’s Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). The parallel-ization design for SIFT on GPUs is divided into two stages, a) Algorithm de-sign-generic design strategies which focuses on data and b) Implementation de-sign-architecture specific design strategies which focuses on optimally using GPU resources for maximum occupancy. Increasing memory latency hiding, eliminating branches and data blocking achieve a significant decrease in aver-age computational time. Furthermore, it is observed via Paraver tools that our approach to parallelization while optimizing for maximum occupancy allows GPU to execute memory bound SIFT algorithm at optimal levels.

BACKGROUND Timely intervention in hip fracture is essential to decrease the risks of perioperative morbidity and ***,limitations of the resources,risk of disease transmission and redirection of medical attention to a more severe infective health problem during coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic period have affected the quality of care even in a surgical *** To compare the 30-d mortality rate and complications of hip fracture patients treated during COVID-19 pandemic and pre-pandemic *** The search of electronic databases on 1st August 2020 revealed 45 studies related to mortality of hip fracture during the COVID-19 pandemic and pre-pandemic *** careful screening,eight studies were eligible for quantitative and qualitative analysis of *** The pooled data of eight studies(n=1586)revealed no significant difference in 30-d mortality rate between the hip fracture patients treated during the pandemic and pre-pandemic periods[9.63%vs 6.33%;odds ratio(OR),0.62;95%CI,0.33,1.17;P=0.14].Even the 30-d mortality rate was not different between COVID-19 non-infected patients who were treated during the pandemic time,and all hip fracture patients treated during the pre-pandemic period(OR,1.03;95%CI,0.61,1.75;P=0.91).A significant difference in mortality rate was observed between COVID-19 positive and COVID-19 negative patients(OR,6.99;95%CI,3.45,14.16;P<0.00001).There was no difference in the duration of hospital stay(OR,-1.52,95%CI,-3.85,0.81;P=0.20),overall complications(OR,1.62;P=0.15)and incidence of pulmonary complications(OR,1.46;P=0.38)in these two-time ***,the preoperative morbidity was more severe,and there was less use of general anesthesia during the pandemic *** There was no difference in 30-d mortality rate between hip fracture patients treated during the pandemic and pre-pandemic ***,the mortality risk was higher in COVID-19 positive patients compared to COVID-19 negativ

The Phenomenal Alleviation of Transmission Congestion by Optimally Placed Multiple Distributed Generators Using PSO

In the current electricity paradigm, the rapid elevation of demands in industrial sector and the process of restructuring are the main causes for the overuse of transmission systems. Hence, the evolution of novel technology is the ultimate need to avoid the damages in the available transmission systems. An appreciable volume of renewable energy sources is used to produce electric power, after the implementation of deregulation in power system. Even though, they are intended to improve the reliability of power system, the unpredictable outages of generators or transmission lines, an impulsive increase in demand and the sudden failures of vital equipment cause transmission congestion in one or some transmission lines. Generation rescheduling and load shedding can be used to alleviate congestion, but some cases require quite few improved methods. With the extensive application of Distributed Generation (DG), congestion management is also performed by the optimal placement of DGs. Therefore, this research employs a Line Flow Sensitivity Factor (LFSF) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for the determination of optimal location and size of multiple DG units, respectively. This proposed problem is formulated to minimize the total system losses and real power flow performance index. This approach is experimented in modified IEEE-30 bus test system. The results of N-1 contingency analysis with DG units prove the competence of this proposed approach, since the total numbers of congested lines get reduced from 15 to 2. Hence, the results show that the proposed approach is robust and simple in alleviating transmission congestion by the optimal placement and sizing of multiple DG units.

An Efficient Framework for Indian Sign Language Recognition Using Wavelet Transform

Hand gesture recognition system is considered as a way for more intuitive and proficient human computer interaction tool. The range of applications includes virtual prototyping, sign language analysis and medical training. In this paper, an efficient Indian Sign Language Recognition System (ISLR) is proposed for deaf and dump people using hand gesture images. The proposed ISLR system is considered as a pattern recognition technique that has two important modules: feature extraction and classification. The joint use of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) based feature extraction and nearest neighbour classifier is used to recognize the sign language. The experimental results show that the proposed hand gesture recognition system achieves maximum 99.23% classification accuracy while using cosine distance classifier.

Provenance Variability during Damuda Sedimentation in the Talchir Gondwana Basin, India – A Statistical Assessment

The Talchir Gondwana basin houses the Talchir Formation at the base, succeeded by the Damuda Group and the Kamthi Formation in upward progression. The present study is an attempt to determine the provenance of the Damuda Group and its variability in terms of location, climate and tectonism through time from the composition of sandstone grains and detritus of the constituent Karharbari, Barakar and Barren Measures formations. The Damuda sandstones are composed of variable amounts of monocrystalline undulatory, nonundulatory and polycrystalline quartz grains, potash and plagioclase feldspars as well as metamorphic and sedimentary rock fragments in addition to heavy accessories. Palaeocurrent studies suggest that the Eastern Ghats Supergroup lying to the south of the basin served as the source area of the Damuda sediments. Plots of sandstone composition in tectonic setting discrimination diagrams suggest derivation of the detritus from craton interior, continental block and recycled orogen provinces. Statistical analyses indicate significant differences in the detrital modes of the sandstones of the Karharbari, Barakar and Barren Measures formations, which may be attributed to temporal and spatial variation of the provenance coupled with climate change in commensurate with Damuda sedimentation.
