Climate-change habitat shifts for the vulnerable endemic oak species(Quercus arkansana Sarg.)

Quercus arkansana(Arkansas oak)is at risk of becoming endangered,as the total known population size is represented by a few isolated populations.The potential impact of climate change on this species in the near future is high,yet knowledge of its predicted effects is limited.Our study utilized the biomod2 R package to develop habi-tat suitability ensemble models based on bioclimatic and topographic environmental variables and the known loca-tions of current distribution of Q.arkansana.We predicted suitable habitats across three climate change scenarios(SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,and SSP5-8.5)for 2050,2070,and 2090.Our findings reveal that the current suitable habitat for Q.arkansana is approximately 127,881 km^(2) across seven states(Texas,Arkansas,Alabama,Louisiana,Mississippi,Georgia,and Florida);approximately 9.5%is encompassed within state and federally managed protected areas.Our models predict that all current suitable habitats will disap-pear by 2050 due to climate change,resulting in a northward shift into new regions such as Tennessee and Kentucky.The large extent of suitable habitat outside protected areas sug-gests that a species-specific action plan incorporating pro-tected areas and other areas may be crucial for its conserva-tion.Moreover,protection of Q.arkansana habitat against climate change may require locally and regionally focused conservation policies,adaptive management strategies,and educational outreach among local people.

Distribution Pattern of Vascular Plant Species of Mountains in Nepal and their Fate Against Global Warming

This study aims to find the altitudinal distribution pattern of vascular plant species reported from high mountain of Nepal(Manang) along the whole Himalayan elevation gradient, and evaluate their fate against climate change. Data was gathered from multiple sources, field investigations, literatures, and herbarium specimens. Altogether, 303 vascular plant species were reported from Manang. We used a published data to calculate distribution range of each species by interpolating between its upper and lower elevation limits. The relationship between elevation and species richness is elucidated by generalized linear model. The consequence of global warming upon Manang's vascular plant species was estimated based on projected temperature change for next century and adiabatic lapse rate along the elevation gradient of the Himalayas. The vascular plant species richness has a unimodel relationship with elevation along the whole elevation gradient of Nepal as well as in three biogeographical regions of Nepal. Vascular plants of Manang are found distributed from low land Terai to high alpine regions of Nepal and their elevation distribution range varies from 200 to 4700 m. Out of 303 vascular plants of Manang, only seven species might be affected if temperature increase by 1.5°C, whereas at least 70 species will be affected with 5°C temperature increased. However, the majority of species(233 species) have wider distribution range(> 1000 m) and more than 5°C temperature tolerance range, thus they are likely to be less affected from global warming by the end of 21 st century.

Hyperspectral image(HSI)classification has been one of themost important tasks in the remote sensing community over the last few decades.Due to the presence of highly correlated bands and limited training samples in HSI,discriminative feature extraction was challenging for traditional machine learning methods.Recently,deep learning based methods have been recognized as powerful feature extraction tool and have drawn a significant amount of attention in HSI classification.Among various deep learning models,convolutional neural networks(CNNs)have shown huge success and offered great potential to yield high performance in HSI classification.Motivated by this successful performance,this paper presents a systematic review of different CNN architectures for HSI classification and provides some future guidelines.To accomplish this,our study has taken a few important steps.First,we have focused on different CNN architectures,which are able to extract spectral,spatial,and joint spectral-spatial features.Then,many publications related to CNN based HSI classifications have been reviewed systematically.Further,a detailed comparative performance analysis has been presented between four CNN models namely 1D CNN,2D CNN,3D CNN,and feature fusion based CNN(FFCNN).Four benchmark HSI datasets have been used in our experiment for evaluating the performance.Finally,we concluded the paper with challenges on CNN based HSI classification and future guidelines that may help the researchers to work on HSI classification using CNN.

Biodiversity and Invasibility: Distribution Patterns of Invasive Plant Species in the Himalayas, Nepal

Invasive plant species are exerting a serious threat to biological diversity in many regions of the world. To understand plant invasions this study aims to test which of the two plant invasiveness hypotheses; ‘low native diversity' vs. ‘high native diversity', is supported by the regional distribution patterns of invasive plant species in the Himalayas,Nepal. This study is based on data retrieved from published literatures and herbarium specimens. The relationship between invasive plant species distribution patterns and that of native plant species is elucidated by scatter plots, as well as by generalized linear models. The native plant species and invasive plant species have similar distribution patterns and the maximum number of invasive plant species is found in the same altitudinal range where the highest richness for native tree species is found. There is a clear trend of higher invasive plant richness in regions where native tree species richness is relatively high.Consequently, the native plant richness is highest in the central phytogeographic region, followed by the eastern and the western regions, respectively. The invasive plant species also follows a similar trend.Additionally, the invasive plant species richness was positively correlated with anthropogenic factors such as human population density and the number of visiting tourists. This study supports the hypothesis that ‘high native diversity' supports or facilitates invasive plant species. Further, it indicates that nativeand invasive plant species may require similar natural conditions, but that the invasive plant species seem more dependent and influenced by anthropogenic disturbance factors.

Cancer therapy is a fast-emerging biomedical paradigm that elevates the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of a nanovector for identification,monitoring,targeting,and post-treatment response analysis.Nanovectors of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles(SPION)are of tremendous significance in cancer therapy because of their inherited high surface area,high reactivity,biocompatibility,superior contrast,and magnetic and photo-inducibility properties.In addition to a brief introduction,we summarize various progressive aspects of nanomagnets pertaining to their production with an emphasis on sustainable biomimetic approaches.Post-synthesis particulate and surface alterations in terms of pharmaco-affinity,liquid accessibility,and biocompatibility to facilitate cancer therapy are highlighted.SPION parameters including particle contrast,core-fusions,surface area,reactivity,photosensitivity,photodynamics,and photothermal properties,which facilitate diverse cancer diagnostics,are discussed.We also elaborate on the concept of magnetism to selectively focus chemotherapeutics on tumors,cell sorting,purification of bioentities,and elimination of toxins.Finally,while addressing the toxicity of nanomaterials,the advent of ultrasmall nanomagnets as a healthier alternative with superior properties and compatible cellular interactions is reviewed.In summary,these discussions spotlight the versatility and integration of multitasking nanomagnets and ultrasmall nanomagnets for diverse cancer theragnostics.

Some Observations about the MOLSCAT

For calculation of cross sections for collisional transitions between rotational levels in a molecule,a computer code,MOLSCAT is available.For the transitions between rotational levels in H_2 CS due to collisions with He atom,we have calculated cross sections under the CS approximation,for example,for total energy 11 cm^(-1).The calculations have been done for the single energy 11 cm"1 and for ten combinations.We have found that the cross sections for the single energy 11 cm^(-1),differ from those in the first seven combinations,but are in agreement with those in the last three combinations.The reason for the difference in the results appears that the MOLSCAT uses the intermediate data of calculations for one energy,in the calculations for other energies.The agreement with the last three combinations may be understood that when the energy of combination is in the decreasing trend,the cross sections for the first(common)energy are equal.It may be suggested to run the MOLSCAT for a single energy at a time.

In recent years,the perovskite solar cells have gained much attention because of their ever-increasing power conversion efficiency(PCE),simple solution fabrication process,flyable,light-weight wearable and deployable for ultra-lightweight space and low-cost materials constituents etc.Over the last few years,the efficiency of perovskite solar cells has surpassed 25%due to high-quality perovskite-film accomplished through low-temperature synthesis techniques along with developing suitable interface and electrode-materials.Besides,the stability of perovskite solar cells has attracted much well-deserved attention.In this article we have focused on recent progress of the perovskite solar cells regarding their crystallinity,morphology and synthesis techniques.Also,demonstrated different layers such as electron transport-layers(ETLs),hole transport-layers(HTLs)and buffer-layers utilized in perovskite solar-cells,considering their band gap,carrier mobility,transmittance etc.Outlook of various tin(Sn),carbon and polymer-based perovskite solar cells and their potential of commercialization feasibility has also been discussed.

Gallbladder cancer with tumor thrombus in the superior vena cava

BACKGROUND:Gastrointestinal cancers,especially pancreatobiliary cancers,are frequently associated with or are complicated by thromboembolic phenomena due to hypercoagulability and/or altered venous drainage,especially of the abdomen and lower limbs.This report describes an unusual and interesting case of gallbladder carcinoma developing a viable tumor thrombus in the superior vena cava(SVC)with resultant SVC obstruction,while on gefitinibbased anti-epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)therapy.METHODS:A 60-year-old woman was incidentally diagnosed to have gallbladder cancer on cholecystectomy.She had disease recurrence and received systemic chemotherapy followed by gefitinib-based anti-EGFR therapy.Subsequently,while on gefitinib-based therapy,she presented with clinical signs and symptoms suggestive of SVC thrombosis.RESULTS:A whole body PET scan revealed a metabolically active tumor thrombus in the SVC,besides other sites of metabolically active disease inclusive of the lung parenchyma, lymph nodes and abdomen.She was treated with antithrombotics and external beam radiotherapy directed to the SVC thrombus leading to symptomatic relief.She continues to survive on the day of writing this report.CONCLUSIONS:This rare complication,though theoretically possible,is unreported because of the short overall survival of advanced gallbladder cancer patients.This highlights that with the availability of better chemotherapeutic/biotherapeutic agents for increasing in the lifespan of cancer patients,we may come across such cases more frequently in the future.

Experimental investigation on strip inserts in a circular tube heat transfer effect of conical under laminar flow

The aim of this paper is to observe the Nusselt number and friction factor behavior of the circular tube with conical strip inserts as turbulators in a laminar flow condition, using staggered and non-staggered conical strips with three different twist ratios （Y = 2, 3 and 5）. The conical strip is inserted in the forward and backward direction individually compared to the flow of water which is the working fluid. The results indicate that the conical strip inserts increases the Nusselt number when compared to the plain surface tube. It is observed that the strip geometry has a major effect on the thermal performance of the circular tube. On examination of different strips for determining the enhancement of Nusselt number, the staggered conical strip with the twist ratio of Y = 3 has given a better result compared to the other two strips. Finally, correlations have been derived using regression analysis for predicting the Nusselt number and friction factor.
