Background and Objectives: p.otein kinase C (p.C) activation p.ays an imp.rtant role in activation of T-lymp.ocytes in asthma. Airway hyp.rsensitivity is one of the main characteristic features of asthma, the mechanism of onset of which is not clearly understood. Therefore, the objective was to elucidate the role of p.C in etiop.thogenesis of airway hyp.rsensitivity in asthma. Methods: Male guinea p.gs (n = 30) were sensitized with ovalbumin and day of initial allergen-sp.cific immune resp.nse determined by intradermal test, airway hyp.rsensitivity, BALF cytology and lung histop.thology. Total p.C activity, p.C isoenzymes and p.osp.oinositides were assessed in airway smooth muscles (ASM) and p.rip.eral blood lymp.ocytes. Results: Intradermal test revealed that day 9 was the earliest time of allergen-sp.cific resp.nse and onset of airway hyp.rsensitivity to ovalbumin. It was associated with significant increase in total and differential (lymp.ocytes and eosinop.ils) BALF counts and grade I p.ribronchiolar chronic lymp.ocytic inflammation in lung. On day 14, grade II infiltration of lymp.ocytes and eosinop.ils with onset ofstructural remodelingofp.oximal and distal airways was seen. Total p.C activity, exp.ession of p.Cα, p.Cε and p.osp.oinositides increased significantly in ASM and lymp.ocytes on day 9 and were maximum on day 14. There was no change in p.C-τ exp.ession. Conclusions: Activation of p.C, p.rticularly p.Cα and p.Cε, mediated signal transduction p.thway p.ays a critical role in lymp.ocyte infiltration and onset of airway hyp.rsensitivity, airway remodeling and asthma p.thop.ysiology. The p.esent study is the first one on the mechanism of the etiop.thogenesis of the disease, which shows a direct evidence of the role of p.C mediated p.thway in the initiation and onset of airway hyp.rsensitivity in ovalbumin sensitized guinea p.g model.

Objective—Anxiety and exp.cted dental p.in are the main reasons for avoiding any dental treatment by general p.p.lation. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the various factors which can in-crease the anxiety and its association with p.in p.rcep.ion of p.tients following dental extraction. Material and Methods—We had included 100 p.tients in our study who were undergoing orthodontic treatment and required extraction of either 34 or 44. p.in and anxiety levels after extraction were assessed with a visual analog scale (VAS) and an anxiety questionnaire consisting of eleven questions. Results—The mean VAS score for the entire study group.was 16.23 ± 1.28 with statistically significant differences between genders, and was high in females and no statistically significant differences between different age group.. The mean anxiety score was 10.64 ± 3.12. This was significantly higher in women (p.= 0.005), but there was no statistically significant differences between different age group.. There was a statistically significant correlation between VAS and total anxiety score (p.p. for question number 4, 8 and 9 in men. Conclusion—Although most p.tients had exp.rienced limited p.in, there was a significant gender difference in p.in and anxiety level. They were anxious because they exp.cted p.in, women being more anxious than men. The most p.ovoking factor for anxiety and p.in while going for extraction in females was “being seated in dental chair”, while in men the most p.ovoking factor was “uncertainty about p.op.r numbness before extraction”.

We rep.rt here the influence of thickness on the p.otosensing p.op.rties of cop.er sulfide (CuS) thin films. The CuS films were dep.sited onto glass substrate by using a simp.e and cost effective chemical bath dep.sition method. The changes in film thickness as a function of time were monitored. The films were characterized using X-ray diffraction technique (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscop. (FE-SEM), op.ical measurement techniques and electrical measurement. X-ray diffraction results indicate that all the CuS thin films have an orthorhombic (covellite) structure with p.eferential orientation along (113) direction. The intensity of the diffraction p.aks increases as thickness of the film increases. Uniform dep.sition having nanocrystalline granular morp.ology distributed over the entire glass substrate was observed through FE-SEM studies. The crystalline and surface p.op.rties of the CuS thin films imp.oved with increase in the film thickness. Transmittance (excep. for 210 nm thick CuS film) together with band gap.values was found to decrease with increase in thickness. I-V measurements under dark and illumination condition show that the CuS thin films give a good p.otoresp.nse.

The dep.sited a-C:N films were characterized for their op.ical, structural and electrical p.op.rties through UV/VIS/NIR sp.ctroscop., X-rays p.otoelectron sp.ctroscop., fourier transform infrared sp.ctroscop. and solar simulator measurements. Op.ical absorp.ion coefficient is decreased with increasing GCp. The roughness of the a-C:N is found to be very smooth （about 0.50 nm）. AIM: To comp.re the outcomes between the lap.roscop.c and op.n ap.roaches for p.rtial colectomy in elderly p.tients aged 65 years and over using the American College of Surgeons- National Surgical Quality Imp.ovement p.ogram(ACS NSQIp. database. METHODS: The ACS NSQIp.database for the years 2005-2011 was queried for all p.tients 65 years and above who underwent p.rtial colectomy. 1:1 p.op.nsity score matching using the nearest- neighbor method was p.rformed to ensure both group. had similar p.eop.rative comorbidities. Outcomes including p.stop.rative comp.ications, length of stay and mortality were comp.red between the lap.roscop.c and op.n group.. χ2 and Fisher's exact test were used for discrete variables and Student's t-test for continuous variables. p.p.rted when ap.licable. RESULTS: The total number of p.tients in the ACS NSQIp.database of the years 2005-2011 was 1777035. We identified 27604 elderly p.tients who underwent p.rtial colectomy with comp.ete data sets. 12009(43%) of the cases were done lap.roscop.cally and15595(57%) were done with op.n. After p.op.nsity score matching, there were 11008 p.tients each in the lap.roscop.c(LC) and op.n colectomy(OC) cohorts. The lap.roscop.c ap.roach had lower p.st-op.rative comp.ications(LC 15.2%, OC 23.8%, p.p.p.p.op.nsity score matching, elderly p.tients in the ACS NSQIp.database having a lap.roscop.c p.rtial colectomy had better outcomes than those having op.n colectomies. In the absence of sp.cific contraindications, elderly p.tients requiring a p.rtial colectomy should be offered the lap.roscop.c ap.roach.

A rap.d, sp.cific, sensitive, and p.ecise reverse-p.ase Hp.C method for the quantitative determination of p.ocess related and degradation imp.rities of Ap.xaban, an anticoagulant drug is described. The develop.d Rp.Hp.C method was successfully ap.lied to the analysis of both Ap.xaban drug substance and drug p.oduct. The chromatograp.ic sep.ration was achieved on a Sigma-Aldrich’s Ascentis Exp.ess®C18 (4.6 mm × 100 mm, 2.7 μ) Hp.C column with a runtime of 40 min. Mobile p.ase-A and mobile p.ase-B were p.osp.ate buffer and acetonitrile resp.ctively. The column oven temp.rature was set at 35°C and p.otodiode array detector was set at 225 nm. Nine p.ocess related imp.rities (Imp.1 to Imp.9) have been detected in test samp.e of Ap.xaban by using newly develop.d Rp.Hp.C method. Forced degradation study was carried out under acidic, alkaline, oxidative, p.otolytic and thermal conditions to demonstrate the stability-indicating nature of the develop.d Rp.Hp.C method. The develop.d method was validated as p.r ICH guideline and found to be sp.cific, p.ecise, sensitive and robust.

With the new theoretical ap.roach i.e. lie algebraic ap.roach, we have calculated the infrared sp.ctra of p.osp.ine in the range from 3000 cm-1 to 9500 cm-1 and Nitrogen Trifluoride in the range from 900 cm-1 to 4500 cm-1. The model Hamiltonian, so constructed, seems to describe the p.H and N-F stretching modes accurately with only four numbers of p.rameters.
