Objective:To evaluate the ameliorative effect of melatonin on sub-chronic chlorpyrifos(CPF)and cypermethrin(CYP)-evoked cognitive changes in male Wistar ***:Fifty adult male Wistar rats,divided into five groups of ten rats each,were used for the ***ⅠandⅡwere given distilled water and soya oil(2 ml/kg)***Ⅲwas administered with melatonin at 0.5 mg/kg ***Ⅳwas administered with CPF[7.96 mg/kg(1/10th LD_(50))]and CYP[29.6 mg/kg(1/10th LD_(50))].and Group V was administered with CPF[7.96 mg/kg(1/10th LD_(50)]and CYP[29.6 mg/kg(1/10th LD_(50)]30 min after melatonin(0.5 mg/kg).The regimens were administered by gavage once daily for 12 ***,cognitive performances were determined and the brain was evaluated for malonaldehyde ***:CPF and CYP induced cognitive deficits and increased brain malonaldehyde concentration,which were all ameliorated by ***:Cognitive deficits elicited by CPF and CYP was mitigated by melatonin due to its antioxidant property.

Geological Exploration of Marble Deposits in Toto Area, Nasarawa State, Nigeria

Geological mapping as well as chemical analysis for marble deposit in the Muro-Obugu-Panda area of Toto Local Government, Nasarawa State, Nigeria, was carried out. The objectives of the study are to first map out the extent of the deposit and then evaluate its chemical characteristics. The geology of the area forms part of the Upper Proterozoic low-grade (green schist facies) schist belts of Central Nigeria, and consists of schists, banded iron, quartzite, and marble. Geological mapping revealed that the marble deposit stretches in a NE-SW direction, from Muro in the north to Kolo in the south, covering about 28 km2. This deposit consists mainly of silicified gray and white varieties of marble. The mapping also identified three (3) exploration targets A—Panda, B—Obugu, and C— Soka. Chemical analysis of eight (8) selected samples shows that CaO content varies from 3.72 to 53.12 wt%. Other impurities are Fe2O3, Al2O3, MgO and SiO2. Plot of Na2O + K2O vs. SiO2 shows a positive correlation while that of CaO and MgO exhibits a well defined negative correlation with SiO2 and this reflects the introduction of chert during the deposition of the parent limestone of the marble body. The variation plot of CaO vs. MgO shows an inverse relationship. This is reflected in the inverse relationship in the proportion of calcite to dolomite in the marble. All these results correlate with those found in the adjacent area by previous workers and this indicates the same extension of marble in these areas. The Muro marble can be used economically as raw materials for a variety of products such as fillers, glass, papers, lime, pesticide and sewage treatment, decorative construction, monuments, paint making and most of all very suitable for cement production.

The determination of the impacts of marble mining on the environment in Igarra was carried out via the analysis of soil and water samples as geological medium. Seven soil samples, ten water samples and five rock samples were collected. The samples collected were subjected to petro-graphic and geochemical analysis. The mean concentration of metals in soil from Ekpeshi were Cd (3.254 mg/kg), Co (786.554 mg/kg), Cu (12.911 mg/kg), Ni (18.942 mg/kg), Pb (5.5 mg/kg), and Zn (28.457 mg/kg) while the concentrations of the water samples collected from streams, taps and wells were Cd (0.116 mg/kg), Co (15.225 mg/kg), Cu (0.542 mg/kg), Ni (0.276 mg/kg), Pb (0.486 mg/kg), and Zn (0.742 mg/kg). Lead (Pb) showed high concentration of (0.486 mg/kg), Ni (0.276 mg/kg) and Cd (0.116 mg/kg) as against acceptable limits of 0.01mg/l, 0.02 mg/l (NIS) and 0.07 mg/l (WHO) 0.003 mg/l respectively, while in soil it showed high concentration of Cd (3.254 mg/kg) compared to the acceptable limit of 0.8 mg/kg set by the Dutch Standard limit for soil. Lead, Nickel and Cadmium are found to be in high concentration in both surface and underground water, and this calls for treating water in the study area before it’s used as drinking water via drilling water boreholes by the mining and processing companies operating in the area as a form of corporate social responsibility. Also, the provisions in the mining act should holistically be implemented to safe life and health of the populace of the immediately surroundings.

The metallic mineral resources of Nigeria have not been fully appraised due to lack of sufficient studies and technology. Previous works identified a number of minerals deposits which have remained largely unevaluated. Some known deposits were confirmed while new ones were identified and documented. The metallic minerals found in Nigeria include iron ore (with over 3 billion metric tonnes), ferro-alloy minerals (Manganese, vanadium, nickel, chromite, columbite, molybdenum, zircon, wolfram/tungsten tourmaline and tantalite), tin ore (cassiterite), lead/zinc, niobium, uranium ore and precious metal (Gold). Looking at the diversity of the mineral types and industrial importance of most of them and the need to exploit and process the minerals for technological development, there is need to build up capability to produce efficient unit operations of the required sizes by indigenous manufacturers.

Renal Function in Preeclamptics versus Normal Pregnant Women

Background: Pregnancy is implicated in notable physiological changes and the extraordinary kidney physiology during pregnancy is believed to have an effect on kidney functions. However, during pregnancy the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) increases its work rate up to 50%, on the contrary, in preeclampsia the GFR turns back to decline. Objectives: This study aims to measure and compare kidney function between preeclamptic and normal pregnant women. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted in the period from March to May 2021 in Wad Medani Obstetrics and Gynecology Teaching Hospital. A total of 100 pregnant women, 50 apparently healthy pregnant women and 50 pregnant ladies proved to have preeclamptic toxemia, their ages ranged from 18 to 44 years old and at the third trimester of pregnancy. Blood samples were taken and serum was separated, then urea, creatinine, uric acid, sodium and potassium were determined. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Results: The results of this study revealed that 92% of preeclamptic pregnant women had the first time of the incidence and 8% were family inherited preeclampsia and injured multiple times. The preeclamptic pregnant women showed elevation in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared to the normal pregnant women. Although the creatinine values of all study subjects were in the normal range, the mean of its serum level was found to be higher in normal pregnant women than that in preeclamptic women. The study also showed urea level was elevated in the preeclampsia group in comparison to the normal one, while all values were in the normal range. In addition to the significant difference that observed in the uric acid mean between preeclamptic (higher) and normal pregnant groups, abnormal values were only noticed with many preeclamptic patients. The study examined the levels of resource-use efficiency of rice farmers unde,r irrigation method in Dadinkowa, Gombe state of Nigeria. Using questionnaire, data were collected during the year 2010 irrigation season from 120 randomly sampled rice irrigators and the data were analyzed using multiple regression and marginal analyses. Results showed that significant factors influencing irrigated rice production were labour （P 〈 0.001）, land and fertilizer （P 〈 0.01）. In addition, the coefficient of determination （R2）, the F-ratio and the standard error of the mean （S） were found to be 0.471, 16.37＊＊＊ and 8.908, respectively. The results also indicated that efficiency values of land, seeds, fertilizer and labour were 1.234, 0.498, 2.352 and 1.620, respectively. Finally, it was found that resource-use among the farmers were not efficient thus equipment, land, fertilizer and labour inputs shall be increased by 78.3%, 18.9%, 57.5% and 38.3%, respectively, while seed input shall be reduced by 50.2% for the farmers to attain optimal resource utilization.

Background: Reverse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) SARS-CoV-2 assay remains the common test used to detect the coronavirus infection worldwide. Complete blood count (CBC) is a rapid and cost-effective test compared to RT-PCR, thus, it would be worthy to find a hematological indicator for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Objectives: This study aims to assess the efficacy of CBC indices as an initial diagnostic test for coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) infection, which might be helpful during the outbreak of the disease. Materials and Methods: A retrospective, hospital based and case control study was carried out at Gezira isolation center for COVID-19, Gezira State, Sudan in the period from January to May 2021. A total of 178 COVID-19 patients with positive RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 assay result and another 178 volunteers of apparently healthy people were included in this study. CBC as well as D-dimer and C-reactive protein (CRP) were recorded from patient’s file and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) were calculated. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20. Results: Neutrophil percentage, total white blood cells (TWBCs) and platelet (PLT) were higher in the COVID-19 patients compared to their control, whereas, lymphocyte and monocyte showed lower percentages among the COVID-19 patients. Although the differences that observed in the means of PLT, neutrophils and monocytes between the case and control group were significant, all these mean values of both groups were lying within the normal range. On the other hand, there was a highly significant elevation in NLR and PLR and quite good increasing in LMR level among COVID-19 patients compared to their control. The results of receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis showed that the area under the curve of NLR, PLR and LMR were 0.948 (P. value = 0.00, 95% CI: 0.925 - 0.972), 0.925 (P. value = 0.00

The Impact of Swelling Indices of Sokoto Clays on the Moulding Properties of the Clays in Sand Mixtures was investi- gated. Four clays (labeled A, B, C, D) from different locations in Sokoto state of Nigeria were sampled. The sampling method was that for each deposit five samples were taken at different positions and then mixed together. At the labora- tory they were washed to remove organic matter and then dried at 110°C in the oven. A laboratory ball mill was used to grind the dried clays. Each of the clay was then sampled for the determination of its swelling index. The determination of the moulding properties of the clays then followed. Only green compression strength, dry compression strength and green permeability, moulding properties were determined. The analysis of the result revealed that clay B has the highest green and dry strength values it had the highest green compression strength of 71.7 KN/m2 and the highest dry com- pression strength of 3225.75 KN/m2. Clay B also has the highest swelling index of 60% and very high degree of expan- siveness when compared to the other three clays. Clay B was followed by clay A with swelling index of 25%;the clay has high green and dry compression strength and a moderate degree of expansiveness. The inability of clay D with swelling index of 40% to be the next clay to clay B which has the highest swelling index of 60% among the four clays in terms of good moulding properties is an indication that high swelling index does not always mean good moulding properties in clay binders.

中华文明是世界上最古老的文明之一。在语言中,有许多以实例出现的对人有益和值得学习的丰富经验。中国古代文明以人类对其生存和生活的哲学兴趣的观点出发,并涉及到生活的各个方面,尤其强调了道德和精神价值。中国民间文学史具有丰富的治理经验和文化实力,使世人多年来对其抱有极大的兴趣。汉语成语表达了一种道德社会和经济价值观念,似乎成为了一个不可置疑的真理。我们许多人关注成语和谚语,因为它们经常与现实相匹配,即使句子和词汇很少,但它们充满了实用性和总结了古人们深刻的经验,地球上的所有国家都有自己的遗产,这反映了历史上发生的许多事件,人们通过成语来表达发生在他们的日常生活中的事件,一代又一代地传下来了。通过本研究已发现苏丹留学生对于汉语成语的意思理解及使用等方面的偏误,同时也发现苏丹留学生对于成语学习的兴趣以及学生们对于老师的成语教学态度。值得一提的是,在开始学习成语阶段发现困难的基础,特别是在阅读,写作和听说这几个方面,苏丹学生学习成语的困难是从中级阶段开始出现,若老师不好重视这个问题,就会一直陪他们到高级阶段,还会进入他们的日常教育与社会生活。综上所述,苏丹学生在学习成语的过程中免不了遇到这些困难,但是在老师的帮助下学生会轻而易举地解决这个困难,本研究已经为老师提供了一些可以借用的解决方法,比如激发学生的、创造学生之间的竞争精神、激发学生的优势欲望、创造新的激发方式等等。

Multilateral wells promise cost savings to oil and fields as they have the potential to reduce overall drilling distances and minimize the number of slots required for the surface facility managing the ***,drilling a multilateral well does not always increase the flow rate when compared to two single-horizontal wells due to competition in production inside the ***,a holistic approach is proposed to find the optimum balance between single and multilateral wells in an offshore oil *** so doing,the integrated approach finds the highest Net Present Value(NPV)configuration of the field considering drilling,subsurface,production and financial *** model employs stochastic perturbation and Markov Chain Monte-Carlo methods to solve the global maximising-NPV *** addition,a combination of Mixed-Integer Linear Programming(MILP),an improved Dijkstra algorithm and a Levenberg-Marquardt optimiser is proposed to solve the rate allocation *** the outcome from this analysis,the model suggests the optimum development including number of multilateral and single horizontal wells that would result in the highest *** results demonstrate the potential for modelling to find the optimal use of petroleum facilities and to assist with planning and decision making.
