Preparation and evaluation of mucoadhesive bio-flexy films from Cocos nucifera biopolymer using Tiagabine moiety

This research work deals with formulation and evaluation of nanosized Tiagabine loaded bio-flexy films consisting of Cocos nucifera biopolymer(isolated from coconut kernels).Prepared formulations were administered through soft palatal route for brain targeting for epilepsy *** palate,part of oral mucosa serves as novel drug delivery platform and mucoadhesive site for systemic drug *** provides sustained and controlled drug delivery system,does not interfere with patient’s regular activities like talking,eating,drinking,*** bypasses first-pass metabolism in the liver,reduces dose frequency and minimizes drug’s side ***,anticonvulsant drug possesses t1/2:7-9 h(low);Protein binding:96%;Water solubility:22 mg/L,acts as selective gamma amino butyric acid(GABA)reuptake *** nucifera biopolymer used as bio-excipient to prepare bio-flexy films due to its biodegradability,biocompatibility,non-toxicity,non-irritantancy on soft palatal surface along with inbuilt filmability,mucoadhesive *** drug loaded bio-flexy films were formulated using standard solvent casting ***-flexy films were prepared using varying ratios of nanosized Tiagabine:isolated Cocos nucifera biopolymer(FCT1-FCT6).These prepared formulations were compared with same ratios of nanosized Tiagabine:sodium carboxyl methyl cellulose standard polymer flexy films(FET1-FET6).The%yield of Cocos nucifera biopolymer was found to be 10.2±0.04%.Thickness of nanosized Tiagabine loaded bio-flexy films containing Cocos nucifera biopolymer(FCT1-FCT6)was ranging from 0.026±0.04 mm to 0.040±0.02 mm;Folding endurance:84-107;Surface pH:7.01±0.04 to 7.01±0.02;Weight uniformity:0.012±0.04 to 0.020±0.02;Drug content uniformity:69.5±0.35%to 72.9±0.26%;Swelling percentage:65±0.5%to 73±0.2%;Percentage moisture uptake(PTU):2.0±0.14%to 2.8±0.12%;Mucoadhesivity:20-90 min;Mucoretentivity:60-180 *** drug release pattern for formulations FCT1-FCT6 containing Cocos nuci

Background:Palatal rugae are asymmetrical elevations present on hard palate and are significant due to their uniqueness,stability and thus,aid in forensic ***:The objective is to determine palatal rugae morphology between parents and their offsprings and to determine their genetic *** and Methods:This randomized controlled cross-sectional single-blinded study was conducted on 50 families(randomly selected)who visited Vyas Dental College and Hospital.A total of 150 maxillary study models were examined and rugae were delineated and shape,size,and pattern of rugae were ***:Weak but significant correlation was seen in the nonspecific and angular type of palatal rugae between child and mother and child and father as P<*** with either or both of their parent was seen for curved,wavy,divergent,straight,horseshoe,angular,and nonspecific type of rugae with the higher%of wavy pattern matching(52%with mother and 54%with father).A considerable number of samples showed high heritability of primary and secondary rugae from both parents,but more predominantly to their mothers(branched,nonspecific,and straight).Conclusion:Both environmental and genetic factors can influence the rugae ***,studies should be conducted on a larger sample size to get more significant results.

Understanding rhabdomyolysis induced acute kidney injury in patients with COVID-19

This work comments on an article published in the recent issue of the World Journal of *** is a complex condition with symptoms such as myalgia,changes to urination,and *** the potential for substantial kidney impairment,it has also been shown to be a severe complication of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).To date,various theoretical explanations exist for the development of rhabdomyolysis induced acute kidney injury(RIAKI)in COVID-19 infection,including the accumulation of released striated muscle myoglobin in the urine(myoglobinuria).In their article,they(2024)demonstrate in a retrospective study that RIAKI in COVID-19 patients tended to have elevated levels of C-reactive protein,ferritin,and *** patients also had poorer overall prognoses when compared to COVID-19 patients who have acute kidney injury(AKI)due to other *** is clear from these findings that clinicians must closely monitor and assess for the presence of rhabdomyolysis in COVID-19 patients who have developed ***,additional research is required to further understand the mechanisms behind the development of RIAKI in COVID-19 patients in order to better inform treatment guidelines and protocols.

Vulnerability of Himalayan springs to climate change and anthropogenic impact: a review

The climate change and unsustainable anthropogenic modification can intensify the vulnerability of the Himalayas. Natural springs are the principal source of potable water security for the Himalayan population. The changes in the trend of precipitation, temperature and glacier melt are expected to impact the quantity and quality of spring water significantly. This review presents an insight to unravel the effects of climate change and land use land cover changes on the spring resources and outline the essential elements of spring hydrology in the Himalayas. The sensitive response of spring flow to the climate has been observed to follows an annual periodic pattern strongly dependent on snowmelt,rainfall, and evapotranspiration. Among all types,Karst aquifers were found to be highly vulnerable. The changes in the forest and urban landscapes are affecting the recharging sites in the headwater *** the Central Himalayan region(Kosi River basin,Kumaun), the number of perennial springs is decreasing at a rate of three springs year-1, and nonperennial springs are increasing at the rate of one spring year-1. The high concentration of NO3-, Cl-1,SO42-, and coliform counts reported from the spring water evidence a high susceptibility of shallow aquifers to the non-point source of pollution. Future projections indicate high surface-runoff and occurrence of extreme events such as floods, glacial lake outbursts, and landslides can affect the flow and water quality of springs. As the impact of climate change and anthropogenic activities are expected to increase with time remarkably, there is an urgent need to promote regional scientific studies on springs targeting hydrogeochemical evolution, vulnerability assessment, recharge area dynamics, and development of springshed management program.

Tailoring wind properties by various passive roughness elements in a bound- ary-layer wind tunnel

Boundary-layer wind tunnel provides a unique platform to reproduce urban, suburban and rural atmospheric boundary layer （ABL） by using roughness devices such as vortex generators, floor roughness, barrier wails, and slots in the extended test-section floor in the contraction cone. Each passive device impacts wind properties in a certain way. In this study, influence of various passive devices on wind properties has been investigated. Experi- ments using eighteen different configurations of the passive devices have been carried out to simulate urban, sub-urban, and rural climate conditions in a boundary-layer wind tunnel. The effect of each configuration on the wind characteristics is presented. It was found that higher barrier height and more number of roughness elements on the floor, generated higher turbulence and therefore higher model scale factors were obtained. However, in- creased slot width in the extended test-section floor in the contraction cone of the wind tunnel seemed to have a little effect on wind characteristics.

Awareness about transmission and preventive measures of COVID-19 from mother to child: A cross-sectional study among pregnant women

Objective:To study the knowledge,attitude,and practice of pregnant women regarding transmission and preventive measures of COVID-19 from mother to child and to determine the reasons for vaccine ***:This observational cross-sectional knowledge,attitude,and practice study was conducted among pregnant women of any trimester,attending the antenatal care out-patient department of a tertiary care hospital in Lucknow from October 2020 to March *** the participants were interviewed using a pretested semi-structured questionnaire for desired *** for vaccine hesitancy were also asked to assess their unwillingness to get ***:Totally 652 pregnant women were included and 91.3%were aware that COVID-19 spread through contact with an infected person and 85.3%knew that COVID-19 spread by respiratory *** pregnant women,95.7%perceived that social distancing and wearing a proper mask were effective ways to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection and 96.8%of the pregnant women wore masks regularly when going *** pregnant women,79.0%were hesitant to get *** most common reason was that COVID-19 vaccine can harm the developing fetus(77.5%)and was not very safe in pregnancy(75.0%).Conclusions:Of the pregnant women,22.92%have unsatisfactory knowledge regarding COVID-19,35.63%have negative attitude and 19.93%have poor practices,indicating that there are still gaps in awareness,and majority of them are unwilling to get *** awareness will help prevent the occurrence of future COVID-19 waves in India.

We develop a theoretical model for quantitative analysis of temperature-dependent thermoelectric power of monovalent(Na)doped La_(0.97)Na_(0.03)MnO_(3)*** the ferromagnetic regime,we have evaluated the phonon thermoelectric power by incorporating the scattering of phonons with impurities,grain boundaries,charge carriers and *** doing so,we use the Mott expression to compute the carrier(hole)diffusion thermoelectric power(S_(c)^(diff))using Fermi energy as carrier(hole)-free parameter,and S_(c)^(diff)shows linear temperature dependence and phonon drag S_(ph)^(drag)increases exponentially with temperature which is an artifact of various operating scattering *** is also shown that for phonons the scattering and transport cross-sections are proportional toω^(4)in the Rayleigh regime wherewis the frequency of the *** analysis of thermoelectric power from the present model shows similar results as those revealed from experiments.
