Objective:To evaluate the anti-proliferative and apoptogenic activity of ethyl acetate extract from the leaves of Memecylon edule(EtAc-LME) in MKN-74,NUGC gastric cancer cells and non cancerous gastric mucous cells(GES-1),and to explore the mechanism of EtAc-LME induced ***:The mechanism of EtAc-LME induced apoptosis was explored by analysing the activation of pro-caspases,PARP cleavage,expression of cytochrome-c (Cyt-c) was determined by western blotting,mRNA expression of bcl-2,bax by RT-PCR,loss of mitochondrial potential using DiOC6 dye,annexin binding assay and its influence on cell cycle arrest by flow ***:The results indicated that EtAc-LME inhibited the gastric cancer cell growth in dose-dependent manner and cytotoxicity was more towards the gastric cancer cells(NUCC and MKN-74) compared to normal gastric cells(GES-1),suggesting more specific cytotoxicity to the malignant *** expression of Cyt-c and subsequent activation of caspases-3 and down regulation of bcl-2 and loss in mitochondrial potential in EtAc-LME treated MKN-74 and NUGC cells suggested that EtAc-LME induced apoptosis by mitochondrial dependent ***:The present findings suggest that ethyl acetate extract of Memecylon edule induces apoptosis selectively in gastric cancer cells emphasizing the importance of this traditional medicine for its potential in the treatment of gastric cancer.

A new manufacturing and business infrastructure industrial ecosystem model with the state-of-the art core infrastructure and smart applications in the form of inclusive smart innovation cluster is seen as a powerful tool to drive industrial symbiosis, economic, social and inclusive development. Essentially an integrated eco-industrial park, these clusters demonstrate applications of industrial ecology principles among the occupant units, besides promoting sustainable societies from economic, environmental and social perspectives. The holistic planning and development of these clusters from economic, environmental and social sustainability considerations or alternatively, the sustainability assessment of these clusters is highly complex. The research reported upon forms part of a larger study that aims to develop an integrated decision support system for sustainability assessment of inclusive smart innovation cluster. The paper discusses the conceptual model of the cluster and the need to establish context specific key indicators and influence factors from economic, environmental and social sustainability considerations. The paper proposes a structured methodology for development of key indicators and influence factors. The paper concludes by identifying a set of 184 key indicators and influence factors for comprehensive sustainability assessment of inclusive smart innovation cluster.

Objective:Intraocular pressure(IOP)is essential in maintaining normal function of the *** IOP is associated with *** physiological factors,including age and hormones,can cause variation in *** study was designed to investigate IOP changes in postmenopausal women and the associated factors,which included sex hormones and body mass index(bMI).Methods:This was a cross-sectional ***-eight women were recruited:49 premenopausal women and 49 postmenopausal *** between the two groups were *** influence of estradiol,progesterone,testosterone,and bMI on IOP was analyzed by a multivariate method.Pboth groups,which included bMI,blood pressure,and central cornea thickness,were not significantly *** mean IOP in the postmenopausal group was significantly higher than the mean IOP in the premenopausal group(15.26±2.96 mm Hg vs.14.07±2.65 mm Hg,P=0.04).bMI had a weak positive correlation with IOP in premenopausal women(r=0.31,P=0.03).Estradiol was less likely to influence IOP changes in the postmenopausal group as compared with the premenopausal group(b=−0.021,P=0.002).IOP was not significantly related to progesterone and testosterone ***:Menopausal status has a significant effect on IOP,with a significant increase in IOP seen in postmenopausal women as shown by our *** was shown to be a protective factor in reducing IOP among postmenopausal *** understanding of the influence of postmenopausal status and sex hormones on IOP,glaucoma management may be improved and the target group for disease screening may be more specific.

Objective:Oral slow and sustained release drug delivery system can release their drug content with a controlled manner,producing a desirable blood serum level,reduction in drug toxicity and improving the patient compliance by prolonging dosing *** major drawback of orally administered drug like diltiazem as a calcium channel blocker for the treatment of angina pectoris,arrhythmia and *** has higher aqueous solubility and shorter elimination ***:To overcome these drawbacks associated with diltiazem,an attempt has been made to develop a sustained release dosage form of diltiazem embedded alginate microbeads by ionotropic gelation technique employing various concentrations of polymer and keeping the drug concentration ***:The beads were characterized for its particle size,drug content and in vitro release studies. The results revealed that the surface adhering drug was found to release immediately and a steady state of release was obtained up to 12 h from all the *** results indicated there was an inverse relationship between the concentration of alginate and drug *** drug release was found to follow non-fickian diffusion obeying first order ***:The developed alginate microbeads offered a sustained release of diltiazem. Hence,the formulated microbeads were found to be potential,cost effective,possess satisfactory in vitro release studies.

The knowledge of human skeletal structure is a minimum requirement for all students who are practicing medicine. The skeletal makeup is used as a study material to acquire the knowledge of human anatomy. Skeletal study materials are obtained from the authorized markets by medical and paramedical students and *** study materials are either kept at home or in their hostel rooms. After their basic medical study, they either keep safe these articles for their future reference or pass to their subordinate medical associates. The main problem arises if these skeletal structures are not disposed properly, after their study which may lead the Investigating officer to various medicolegal queries on recovery of these skeleton parts. Here is an interesting case, where the human bones were recovered by the municipality workers scattered in the garbage pit, which lead the investigating officer to register a case of unnatural death and begin with series of medicolegal query.

AIM： To evaluate a low cost Indian recombinant hepatitis b vaccine GeneVac-b for its immunogenicity and safety in comparison to Engerix b and Shanvac b vaccine in high risk newborn infants born to （hepatitis b surface antigen） HbsAg positive mothers.METHODS： A total of 158 infants were enrolled in the study. Fifty eight infants were enrolled in the GeneVac-b group while 50 each were included for Engerix b and Shanvac b groups. A three-dose regimen of vaccination; at birth （within 24 h of birth）, 1st mo and 6 too. were adopted with 10 μg dosage administered uniformly in all the three groups. Clinical and immunological parameters were assessed for safety and immunogenicity of the vaccines, in all the enrolled infants.RESULTS： Successful follow up until seven months of age was achieved in 83% （48/58） for GeneVac-b, 76% （38/50） and 64% （32/50） for Engerix b and Shanvac b groups respectively. 100% seroconversion and seroprotection was achieved in all the three groups of infants. The geometric mean titers of anti-Hbs one month after the completion of three dose of vaccination were 90.5, 80.9 and 72.5 mTU/mL in GeneVac-b, Engerix b and Shanvac b vaccine group respectively. Furthermore the level of anti-Hbs increases with age of babies who were born to HbsAg positive mothers. The GMT values of anti-Hbs were 226.7, 193.9 and 173.6 mIU/mL respectively in GeneVac-b, Engerix b and Shanvac b groups one year after the completion of the three doses of vaccine. No systemic reactions were reported in infants during the entire vaccination process of GeneVac-b and the other two vaccines. Clinical safety parameters remained within the normal limits throughout the study period.CONCLUSION： The study concludes that there is no significant difference between the three recombinant hepatitis b vaccines. Administration of these vaccines within 24 h of birth to babies, born to HbsAg positive mothers will reduce the incidence of HbV infection.

An Appraisal of Fluoride Distribution and Ionic balance in Ground Water of Mundaragi Taluk, Gadag District, Karnataka, India: A Case Study

A total, 25 different ground-water samples collected in Mundaragi taluk in of Gadag district, Karnataka, India to appraise the distribution of Fluoride. pH of collected groundwater is shown alkaline in nature and ranged between 7.18 and 9.32 with a mean value of 8.36. Fluoride content ranged between 0.86 to 4.63 mg/L in ground water samples, with minimum value 0.86 mg/L (MGK24) and maximum value 4.63 mg/L (MGK20). 48% of samples indicated fluoride content below 1.4 mg/L and 32% samples indicated fluoride content in between 2.0 and 3.0 mg/L. Followed by 8% of the samples showed fluoride content ranges above 3.1. The public from villagers have been used high fluoride-bearing groundwater for drinking prolonged period and suffering from fluorosis. Analytical values also predict that occurrence of minerals like apatite, fluorspar, topaz and mica gets processed naturally and releases fluoride into the lithosphere and percolates into ground water. The present study also helps find out a suitable adsorbent for removal of Fluoride in ground water. However, with respect to chemistry of water, the cation and anion balance of all the 25 groundwater samples were inside the recognized limit of ±10%.
