Recently,S-scheme heterojunctions have gained considerable attention in the field of photocatalytic environmental remediation as their potential to achieve efficient spatial charge separation coupled with strong redox capacities.Herein,this review provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art in the development of S-scheme-based photocatalysts for the purification of environmental contaminants.The review first covers the fundamentals of heterogeneous photocatalysis for environmental purification.subsequently,an introduction to the background,mechanism,design principles,and characterization techniques of S-scheme heterojunctions is presented.Then,the review presents a comparison and summary of using various S-scheme photocatalysts for the removal of several target pollutants,such as bacteria,heavy metals,nitrogen oxides,antibiotics,and phenols.Additionally,the modification strategies of S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts are also provided.Finally,a brief discussion of the challenges and prospects associated with S-scheme photocatalytic systems is demonstrated.

Current snow depth datasets demonstrate large discrepancies in the spatial pattern in Eurasia,and the lagging updates of datasets do not meet the operational requirements of the meteorological service department.This study developed a dynamic retrieval method for daily snow depth over Eurasia based on cross-sensor calibrated microwave brightness temperatures to enhance retrieval accuracy and meet the requirements of operational work.These brightness temperatures were detected by microwave radiometer imager carried on the FengYun 3(FY-3)satellite and the special sensor microwave imager/sounder carried on the USA Defense Meteorological Satellite Program series satellites,which use the fewest sensors to provide the longest data and consequently introduce minimal errors during inter-sensor calibration.Firstly,inter-sensor calibration was conducted amongst brightness temperatures collected by the three sensors.A spatiotemporal dynamic relationship between snow depth and microwave brightness temperature gradient was then established,overcoming the large uncertainties induced by varying snow characteristics.This relationship can be utilised in FY-3 satellite data for operational service to obtain real-time snow depth.The generated daily snow depth dataset from 1988 to 2021 presents similar spatial patterns of snow depth to those observed in situ.Against in situ snow depth,the overall bias and root mean square error are−2.04 and 6.49 cm,respectively,facilitating considerable improvements in accuracy compared with the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 snow depth product,which adopts the static algorithm.Further analysis shows an overall decreasing trend from 1988 to 2021 for annual and monthly mean snow depths,demonstrating a noticeable reduction since around 2000.The reduction in monthly mean snow depth started earlier in shallow snow months than in deep snow months.

What is already known about this topic?Addressing health disparities is a worldwide priority,with a well-established acknowledgment of the influence of childhood circumstances on these discrepancies.In China,particularly among the elderly,health inequalities are a notable concern.What is added by this report?The inequality in healthy aging has increased from 2011 to 2020,both in general and concerning childhood factors.Nevertheless,the impact of early-life healthcare access and parental health behaviors on healthy aging gaps has reduced among older adults in better health within the top segment of healthy aging.What are the implications for public health practice?Efforts towards reducing regional health disparities and improving healthcare access for children,along with promoting the health and well-being of parents,especially in economically disadvantaged households,are crucial policy considerations.

Tuberculosis(TB)is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.Although the diagnostic technology of pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB)has advanced,accurate and differential diagnoses of PTB are still challenging.In recent years,the rapid development of artificial intelligence(AI)and its wide application in the medical field have provided new opportunities for diagnosing and treating TB and PTB.The machine learning model of AI has not only helped physicians improve diagnostic accuracy,but also enabled them to make early preventive diagnoses for individuals at increased risk of infection.Furthermore,AI can guide physicians to formulate targeted treatment strategies for PTB patients with different conditions.

Small-scale robots,ranging in size from micrometers to centimeters,have gained significant attention in the biomedical field.However,conventional small-scale robots made of rigid materials encounter challenges in adapting themselves to the soft tissues and complicated environments of human body.Compared to the rigid counterpart,small-scale hydrogel-based robots hold great promises due to their tissue-like low modulus,outstanding biocompatibility and accessible stimuli-responsive capabilities.These attributes offer small-scale hydrogel-based robots with multimodal locomotion and reinforced functions,further enhancing the adaptability in manipulation and tasks execution for various biomedical applications.In this review,we present recent advances in small-scale hydrogel-based robots.We first summarize the design principles of small-scale hydrogel-based robots including materials,fabrication techniques and manipulation strategies,then highlighting their upgraded functions and adaptive biomedical applications.Finally,we discuss existing challenges and future perspectives for small-scale hydrogel-based robots.

Matched Volterra reduced-order model for an airfoil undergoing periodic translation

This paper is devoted to application of the Reduced-Order Model(ROM)based on Volterra series to prediction of lift and drag forces due to airfoil periodic translation in transonic flow region.When there is large amplitude oscillation of the relative Mach number,as appeared in helicopter rotor movement in forward flight,the conventional Volterra ROM is found to be unsatisfactory.To cover such applications,a matched Volterra ROM,inspired from previous multistep nonlinear indicial response method based on Duhamel integration,is thus considered,in which the step motions are defined inside a number of equal intervals with both positive and negative step motions to match the airfoil forward and backward movement,and the kernel functions are constructed independently at each interval.It shows that,at least for the translation movement considered,this matched Volterra ROM greatly improves the accuracy of prediction.Moreover,the matched Volterra ROM,with the total number of step motions and thus the computational cost close to those of the conventional Volterra ROM method,has the additional advantage that the same set of kernels can match various translation motions with different starting conditions so the kernels can be predesigned without knowing the specific motion of airfoil.

To determine whether the capability of the CMIP6 version of Beijing Climate Center(BCC)models(BCC-ESMI and BCC-CSM2-MR)in simulating China summer surface air temperature(SAT)has improved,we presented a multidimensional evaluation of the summer SAT in China including the trends,modes,and influencing factors.Critical comparisons are also made with the results of CMIP5(BCC-CSM1.1 and BCC-CSMl.lm).In general,the CMIP6,especially BCC-CSM2-MR,has smaller deviations in the trends,the means,the mutations,the maximum centers,the variances,and the spatial patterns of the dominant modes from observatio relative to those of CMIP5.However,the BCC CMIP6 models still underestimate the SAT variation in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and the northeastern regions of China,and the performance is unsatisfactory with respect to the physical drivers of the dominant modes.Importantly,all the BCC models can capture the spatio-temporal characteristics of the first mode well and can,in general,characterize the spatial pattern of the second mode,but none of the models perform well in the principal component of the second mode(PC2)due to the low performance with respect to the interannual variation of PC2.Furthermore,the factors influencing the leading two modes are evaluated.The two CMIP6 can simulate better the Northern Hemisphere subtropical high northern boundary affecting the first mode.Another factor,the Asia polar vortex area,can only be simulated better by two low-resolution models(BCC-CSM1.1 and BCC-ESM I).For the second mode,all four models simulate the influence of Asian zonal circulation well,but poorly simulate that of the southern Indian Ocean dipole due to a large deviation in the Indian Ocean surface temperature.

The development of bio-adsorbents with highly selective immobilization properties for specific heavy metals is a great challenge,but has important application value.Biogenic whewellite(BW)with high selectivity for Pb(Ⅱ)was synthesized by mineral microbial transformation.The selective immobilization properties and mechanism of BW for Pb(Ⅱ)were analyzed by combining mineral characterization technology and batch adsorption research methods.The results indicated that BW can efficiently and selectively immobilize Pb(Ⅱ)in single or composite heavy metal adsorption solutions,and the immobilized Pb(Ⅱ)is difficult to desorb.BW undergoes monolayer adsorption on Pb(Ⅱ),Qmax≈1073.17 mg/g.The immobilization of Pb(Ⅱ)by BW is a physico-chemical adsorption process with spontaneous heat absorption and an accompanying increase in entropy.In addition,the sequestration of Pb(Ⅱ)by BW remains around 756.99 mg/g even at p H=1.The excellent selective immobilization properties of BW for Pb(Ⅱ)are closely related to its smaller Ksp,electrostatic repulsion effect,organic-inorganic composite structure,acid resistance and the formation of Pb(Ⅱ)oxalate.This study provides beneficial information about the recycling of lead in acidic lead-containing wastewater and composite heavy metal contaminated water bodies.
