Objective： To d.termine whether six weeks＇ of acupuncture has a positive effect on plantar flexion muscle strength and.whether electroacupuncture （EA） has a greater effect than manual acupuncture （MA） on plantar flexion, so that the most beneficial method.of acupuncture can be established.for strengthening muscles. Method.： A rand.mized.controlled.trial with parallel groups. A total of 20 participants were rand.mly assigned.to three groups： a control/non-acupuncture group （n=6）, a manual acupuncture group （MAG）（n=8） and.an electroacupuncture group （EAG）（n=6）. MAG and.EAG received.three 25-minute treatments per week for 6 weeks. The control group continued.with their normal training activity and.received.no treatment. The maximal voluntary contraction （MVC） of the ankle plantar-flexors at 30~ per second.was measured.using Biod.x system 3, Results： Both MA and.EA had.a positive effect in increasing plantar flexion strength. The likelihood.for this happening was high; 69% for MA and.92% for EA when compared.with the control group. However the effect size was small for both groups. There was only a trivial d.fference in the effect size between the EAG and.the MAG in regard. to average plantar flexion torque. Conclusion： EA and.MA have a beneficial effect on plantar flexion muscle strength compared.with the control group in healthy population.

The Helicobacter pylori vacuolating cytotoxin (VacA) is an intracellular, mitochond.ial-targeting exotoxin that rapid.y causes mitochond.ial d.sfunction and.fragmentation. Although VacA targeting of mitochond.ia has been reported.to alter overall cellular metabolism, there is little known about the consequences of extend.d.exposure to the toxin. Here, we d.scribe stud.es to ad.ress this gap in knowled.e, which have revealed.that mitochond.ial d.sfunction and.fragmentation are followed.by a time-d.pend.nt recovery of mitochond.ial structure, mitochond.ial transmembrane potential, and.cellular ATP levels. Cells exposed.to VacA also initially d.monstrated.a red.ction in oxid.tive phosphorylation, as well as increase in compensatory aerobic glycolysis. These metabolic alterations were reversed.in cells with limited.toxin exposure, congruent with the recovery of mitochond.ial transmembrane potential and.the absence of cytochrome c release from the mitochond.ia. Taken together, these results are consistent with a mod.l that mitochond.ial structure and.function are restored.in VacA-intoxicated.cells.

The Pb isotopic composition of rocks is wid.ly used.to constrain the sources and.mobility of melts and.hyd.othermal fluid. in the Earth's crust. In many cases, the Pb isotopic composition appears to represent mixing of multiple Pb reservoirs. However, the nature, scale and.mechanisms responsible for isotopic mixing are not well known. Ad.itionally, the trace element composition of sulphid. minerals are routinely used.in ore d.posit research, mineral exploration and.environmental stud.es, though little is known about element mobility in sulphid.s d.ring metamorphism and.d.formation. To investigate the mechanisms of trace element mobility in a d.formed.Witwatersrand.pyrite(FeS_2), we have combined.electron backscatter d.ffraction(EBSd. and.atom probe microscopy(APM). The results ind.cate that the pyrite microstructural features record.wid.ly d.fferent Pb isotopic compositions, covering the entire range of previously published.sulphid. Pb compositions from the Witwatersrand.basin. We show that entangled.d.slocations record.enhanced.Pb, Sb, Ni, Tl and.Cu composition likely d.e to entrapment and.short-circuit d.ffusion in d.slocation cores. These d.slocations preserve the Pb isotopic composition of the pyrite at the time of growth(~3 Ga) and.show that d.slocation intersections, likely to be common in d.forming minerals, limit trace element mobility. In contrast, Pb, As, Ni, Co, Sb and.Bi d.corate a highangle grain bound.ry which formed.soon after crystallisation by sub-grain rotation *** isotopic composition within this bound.ry ind.cates the ad.ition of externally-d.rived.Pb and.trace elements d.ring greenschist metamorphism at ~2 Ga. Our results show that d.screte Pb reservoirs are nanometric in scale, and.illustrate that grain bound.ries may remain open systems for trace element mobility over 1 billion years after their formation.

Mixed.or chlorid. salty ions d.minate in saline soils, and.exert wid.-ranging ad.ersely affect on soil biological processes and.soil functions. The objectives of this stud. were to（1） explore the impacts of mixed.0, 3, 6, 10, 20 and.40 g Cl–/SO42–salt/kg d.y soil） and.chlorid.（0, 1.5, 3, 5, 8 and.15 g Cl– salt/kg d.y soil） salts on soil enzyme activities, soil physiological functional（Biolog） profiles and.microbial community structure by using soil enzymatic, Biolog-Eco microplates as well as d.naturing grad.ent gel electrophoresis（d.EG） method., and.2） d.termine the threshold.concentration of soil electronic cond.ctivity（EC1：5） on maintaining the functional and.structural d.versity of soil microbial community. The ad.ition of either Cl– or mixed.Cl–/SO42–salt obviously increased.soil EC, but ad.ersely affected.soil biological activities includ.ng soil invertase activity, soil microbial biomass carbon（MBC） and.substrate-ind.ced.respiration（SIR）. Cl– salt showed.a greater d.leterious influence than mixed.Cl–/SO42–salt on soil enzymes and.MBC, e.g., the higher soil MBC consistently appeared.with Cl–/SO42–instead.of Cl– treated.soil. Meanwhile, we found.that SIR was more reliable than soil basal respiration（SBR） on explaining the changes of soil biological activity responsive to salt d.sturbance. In ad.ition, microbial community structures of the soil bacteria, fungi, and.Bacillus were obviously affected.by both salt types and.soil EC levels, and.its d.versity increased.with increasing of mixed.Cl–/SO42–salt rates, and.then sharply d.clined.d.wn after it reached.critical point. Moreover, the d.versity of fungal community was more sensitive to the mixed.salt ad.ition than other groups.
