This article situates the Pearl River delta market town of Jiujiang within a system of market towns and cities along the West River and its tributaries in southern China. Exploring the history of this town as an emigrant community, this article follows the upstream movement of officials, civil service examinees, merchants, and permanent settlers along the West River basin between the sixteenth century and the nineteenth century. The trajectory of migration from this market town was shaped by the geographical factors of the West River system. At the same time, migration, which was related both to strategies that Jiujiang families embraced for socioeconomic advancement and to policies that the Ming and Qing states adopted for controlling the southwestern frontier, played an important role in the historical construction of a unified region linked by economic ties and personal networks.

This review essay analyzes the historiography of Confucian academies(shuyuan)in imperial China,focusing on five representative books published in China between 2008 and 2014,including two new editions of books originally published in 1995 and *** five authors share a deep concern about the nature of academies,particularly their relationship with the state.A secondary theme that these books address is the impact that academies had on late imperial Chinese culture and *** together,these five works show how research on academies in imperial China has evolved over the past two decades.

As the use of Cannabis products as natural medicines burgeons,it is also appearing as a food *** is important to screen Cannabis samples as ingredients by profiling their chemical compositions,which is referred to as *** sets of botanical extracts were *** first set is referred to as Cannabis contained plant materials from 15 samples of the sativa,indica,and hybrids of the two *** second set contained 20 extracts from the variety of Cannabis sativa with low tetrahydrocannabinol(THC)concentrations,i.e.,below 0.3%,and,henceforth,will be referred to as *** ultraviolet(UV)microplate reader provides a cost-effective and high-throughput method for identifying chemotypes of plant extracts by their *** microplate reader affords rapid measurements of small volumes,e.g.,50μL,which demonstrates a potential to significantly reduce the analysis time and cost for Cannabis and hemp chemotyping or chemi-cal *** samples were measured on different days to demonstrate the robustness of the *** difference resolution(PDR)maps were used to visualize the separations among the *** multivariate classifiers,fuzzy rule-building expert system(fuRES),super partial least squares-discriminant analysis(sPLS-DA),support vector machine(SVM),and two tree-based support vector machines(SVMtreeG and SVMtreeH)were *** classifiers were validated with ten bootstrapped Latin partitions(bLPs).for the Cannabis extracts,the SVMtreeG yielded the best performance and the classification accuracy was 99.1±0.4%for spectra collected in the nonlinear absorbance *** the hemp extracts,the SVM classifier performed the best with a 97.4±0.6%classification *** results demonstrate that the UV microplate reader coupled with multivariate classifiers can be used as a high-throughput and cost-effective approach for chemotyping Cannabis.

We investigate numerical approximations based on polynomials that are orthogonal with respect to a weighted discrete inner product and develop an algorithm for solving time dependent differential *** focus on the family of super Gaussian weight functions and derive a criterion for the choice of parameters that provides good accuracy and stability for the time evolution of partial differential *** results show that this approach circumvents the problems related to the Runge phenomenon on equally spaced nodes and provides high accuracy in *** time stability,small corrections near the ends of the interval are computed using local polynomial *** numerical experiments illustrate the performance of the method.

Implicit-explicit （IMEX） linear multistep methods are popular techniques for solving partial differential equations （PDEs） with terms of different types. While fixed timestep versions of such schemes have been developed and studied, implicit-explicit schemes also naturally arise in general situations where the temporal smoothness of the solution changes. In this paper we consider easily implementable variable step-size implicit-explicit （VSIMEX） linear multistep methods for time-dependent PDEs. families of order-p, pstep VSIMEX schemes are constructed and analyzed, where p ranges from 1 to 4. The corresponding schemes are simple to implement and have the property that they reduce to the classical IMEX schemes whenever constant time step-sizes are imposed. The methods are validated on the burgers＇ equation. These results demonstrate that by varying the time step-size, VSIMEX methods can outperform their fixed time step counterparts while still maintaining good numerical behavior.
