In high seismicity areas, it is important to consider kinematic effects to properly design pile foundations.Kinematic effects are due to the interaction between pile and soil deformations induced by seismic waves. One of the effect is the arise of significant strains in weak soils that induce bending moments on piles. These moments can be significant in presence of a high stiffness contrast in a soil deposit. The single pile kinematic interaction problem is generally solved with beam on dynamic Winkler foundation approaches(BDWF) or using continuous models. In this work, a new boundary element method(BEM)based computer code(KIN SP) is presented where the kinematic analysis is preceded by a free-field response analysis. The analysis results of this method, in terms of bending moments at the pile-head and at the interface of a two-layered soil, are influenced by many factors including the soil-pile interface discretization. A parametric study is presented with the aim to suggest the minimum number of boundary elements to guarantee the accuracy of a BEM solution, for typical pile-soil relative stiffness values as a function of the pile diameter, the location of the interface of a two-layered soil and of the stiffness contrast. KIN SP results have been compared with simplified solutions in literature and with those obtained using a quasi-three-dimensional(3D) finite element code.

Italian music in the last decade is characterized mainly by the rise of rap,previously relegated to a niche of listeners,and an archipelago of musicians from the many talent shows on Italian television.The essay presents the results of a survey of a representative sample of 653 songs,478 of which come from the repertoire of rappers and 175 from musicians of various genres who have graced the stages of talent shows.The goal of the analysis is to penetrate,through text mining,the content that is most disseminated by rap and songs offered in talent shows,trying to suggest interpretive perspectives with respect to potential effects on listeners.It is in that form and content that can be read some kind of social distinction that passes through the transformation of audience tastes in music.

The scour process induced by plunging jets is an important topic for hydraulic engineers. In recent decades, several researchers have developed new strategies and methodologies to control the scour morphology, including different jet arrangements and structures located in the stilling basin. It has been found that multiple jets can cause less scouring than single plunging jets. Based on this evidence, this study aimed to investigate the equilibrium morphology caused by multiple non-crossing jets. A dedicated laboratory model was built and experimental tests were carried out under different combinations of jet inclination angles, by varying the tailwater level and the virtual crossing point location, which was set below the original channel bed level. It was experimentally shown that the equilibrium scour morphology depends on the jet discharge, the differences in non-crossing jet inclination angles, the downstream water level, and the distance of the virtual crossing point from the original channel bed level. In particular, the last parameter was found to be one of the most influential parameters, because of the resulting flow patterns inside the water body. Furthermore, the analysis of experimental evidence allowed for a complete and detailed classification of the scour hole typologies. Three different scour typologies were distinguished and classified. Finally, based on previous studies, two novel re-lationships have been proposed to predict both the maximum scour depth and length within a large range of hydraulic and geometric parameters.

Multiphase computational fluid dynamics(CFD)has become an alternative method to experimental investigation for predicting the fluid dynamics in gas-solid fluidized beds.The model of Brandani and Zhang,which contains additional terms in both the gas-and solid-phase momentum equations,is employed to explore homogeneous fluidization of Geldart type A particles and bubbling fluidization of Geldart type B particles in three-dimensional gas-fluidized beds.In this model,only a correlation for drag force is necessary to close the governing equations.Two kinds of solids,i.e.,fine alumina powder(dp=60 lm and qp=1500 kg/m3)and sand(dp=610 lm and qp=2500 kg/m3),are numerically simulated in a rectangular duct of 0.2 m(long)0.2 m(wide)0.5 m(high)size.The results show good agreement with the classic theory of Geldart.

This new era,shaped dramatically by technology developments and globalization,requires not just an overhaul of existing tax systems but a radical shift in the international tax perspective overall.As the national legislators and tax authorities struggle to keep pace with the evolving technology,an international and coordinated solution appears pivotal.Coordinated and coherent solutions have been put forward by the OECD and G20 countries with Action Plan(addressing BEPS with 15 actions to be implemented in domestic tax frameworks).As for the challenges arising from digitalization,further headway still needs to be made.Hence,one of the essential tasks of the OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework is to address such tax challenges arising from the digitalization of the global economy.Challenges like these are tackled with the socalled“Two-Pillar Solution”,which aims at ensuring that multinational enterprises pay a fair share of tax wherever they operate and generate profits.On the one hand,the“Two-Pillar Solution”ensures that profits are taxed where economic activities take place and where value is created while,on the other hand,it creates a level playing field for multinational enterprises as regards taxation.It is still though too early in the day to judge whether this Two-Pillar Solution will ultimately reach its goals.However,what is clear is that this solution amounts to a major change in international taxation or as I call it:“A‘Giant Leap’for Multinational Groups”.

Liver transplant(LT)outcomes have markedly improved in the recent decades,even if long-term morbidity and mortality are still considerable.Most of late deaths are independent from graft function and different comorbidities,including complications of metabolic syndrome and de novo neoplasms,seem to play a key role in determining long-term outcomes in LT recipients.This review discusses the main factors associated with late mortality and suggests possible strategies to improve long-term management and follow-up after liver transplantation.In particular,the reduction of drug toxicity,the use of tools to identify high-risk patients,and setting up a multidisciplinary team also for long-term management of LT recipients may further improve survival after liver transplantation.

More than twenty years ago, when I first started working on plasticity and regeneration in the peripheral nervous system, I had the feeling of being part of a little, though lively, scientific community that was rarther isolated in the world of neuroscience which appeared to me as almost only focused on central nervous system. Since then, things have progressively changed very much and, today, interest in the regeneration in the peripheral nervous system, and especially in its main component. Le. the peripheral nerves （Geuna S, Raimondo S, Ronchi G, et al. Histology of the peripheral nerve and changes occurring during nerve regeneration. Int Rev Neurobiol. 2009;87：27-46.）, is sprading tremendouslty among both basic and clinical neuroscientists.

Most researchers believe that neurogenesis in mature mammals is restricted only to the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus and the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricle in the central nervous system. In the peripheral nervous system, neurogenesis is thought to be active only during prenatal development, with the exception of the olfactory neuroepithelium. However, sensory ganglia in the adult peripheral nervous system have been reported to contain precursor cells that can proliferate in vitro and be induced to differentiate into neurons. The occurrence of insult-induced neurogenesis, which has been reported by several investigators in the brain, is limited to a few recent reports for the peripheral nervous system. These reports suggest that damage to the adult nervous system induces mechanisms similar to those that control the generation of new neurons during prenatal development. Understanding conditions under which neurogenesis can be induced in physiologically non-neurogenic regions in adults is one of the major challenges for developing therapeutic strategies to repair neurological damage. However, the induced neurogenesis in the peripheral nervous system is still largely unexplored. This review presents the history of research on adult neurogenesis in the peripheral nervous system, which dates back more than 100 years and reveals the evidence on the under estimated potential for generation of new neurons in the adult peripheral nervous system.
