Life expectancy in industrialized and developed countries will continue to increase in the near future. Consequently, over the last years, the incidence and social impact of neurodegenerative diseases have increased, highlighting an urgent need for new and more effective therapeutic strategies to counter these terrible disorders. While we tend to think about neurodegenerative diseases as conditions that are uniquely associated with the elder age, these diseases cover a diverse range across the entire lifespan, even affecting infants and children.

Treatment of patients with lower urinary tract symptoms （LUTS） secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH） may affect the quality of sexual function and ejaculation. The effect of new surgical procedures, which are currently available to treat BPH, on erection and ejaculation, has been poorly studied. This study aimed to assess the effect of thulium laser enucleation of the prostate （ThuLEP） on sexual function and retrograde ejaculation in patients with LUTS secondary to BPH. We performed a prospective study in 110 consecutive patients who had undergone ThuLEP to analyze changes in sexual function and urinary symptoms. To evaluate changes in erection and ejaculation, and the effect of urinary symptoms on the quality of life （QoL）, five validated questionnaires were used： the ICIQ-MLUTSsex, MSHQ-EjD, International Index of Erectile Function 5, International Prognostic Scoring System （IPSS） questionnaire, and QoL index of the intraclass correlation coefficients. Patients also underwent IPSS and flowmetry to assess the outcome of flow. Patients were evaluated before surgery and 3-6 months after ThuLEP, whereas those with previous abdominal surgery were excluded. The patients＇ mean age was 67.83 years. Postoperative urinary symptoms improved after surgery. No significant differences in erectile function before and after surgery were observed. As compared with other techniques described in the literature, the percentage of patients with conserved ejaculation increased by 52.7% after ThuLEP. ThuLEP positively affects urinary symptoms and their effect on the QoL of patients as assessed by questionnaire scores. While endoscopic management of BPH （e.g. transurethral resection of the prostate） causes retrograde ejaculation in most patients, those who undergo ThuLEP have conserved ejaculation and erectile function.

Sediment delivery ratio can be used as a measure of sediment connectivity and it can be linked to the structural connectivity(morphological unit, slope length, slope steepness, travel time) of a basin and to the functional connectivity(rainfall-runoff processes at morphological unit scale). In this paper the sediment connectivity approach was applied at basin scale both using Sediment Delivery Distributed(SEDD) model, which takes into account the hillslope sediment transport, and sediment yield measurements carried out at SPA2 experimental basin(Sicily, Italy). The expression of the sediment delivery ratio SDRi of a morphological unit was modified for highlighting two components corresponding to the structural(SDR_(L,i)) and functional(SDR_(F,i)) sediment connectivity, respectively. For SPA2 basin the frequency distribution of the travel time of each morphological unit was used to estimate the coefficient βL of the structural component of the sediment delivery ratio of each morphological unit. Then, using the sediment yield measurements carried out at the outlet of the experimental SPA2 basin in the period April 2000-March 2015, the SEDD model was calibrated at event scale for estimating the coefficient βF of the functional component of the sediment delivery ratio. At event scale the developed analysis stated that the functional connectivity is dependent on the magnitude of erosion events. Intermediate and high events, which were characterized by the lowest values of the functional coefficient, determine a more high functional connectivity and are characterized by a more efficient sediment transport along the hillslopes. Finally, at annual scale, the model was calibrated for the period 2000-2015 and relationships for estimating the coefficient βF,a of the functional component of the sediment delivery ratio taking into account the intensity of erosion events occurring in each year were determined. To quantify water erosion rates and annual soil loss in mountainous areas,two different empirical models were used to estimate the effects of soil erosion in a small mountain basin,the Guerna Creek watershed,located in the Central Southern Alps(Northern Italy).These two models,Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation(RUSLE) and Erosion Potential Model(EPM),were implemented in a Geographical Information System,accounting for the geographical,geomorphological,and weather-climate parameters,which are fundamental to evaluating the intensity and variability of the erosive *** characterization was supported by laboratory *** results(computed soil loss of 87 t/ha/year and 11.1 m^(3)/ha/year,using RUSLE equation and EPM method,respectively,and sediment yield of 7.5 m^(3)/ha/year using EPM method) were compared to other studies reported in the literature for different case studies with similar topographic and climatic features,as well as to those provided by the European Soil Data Centre(ESDAC).In both cases,the agreement was satisfactory,showing consistency of the adopted procedures to the parametrization of the physical processes.

Measurement and Comparison of Output Factors Using Two Detectors for NOVAC7 IntraOperative Radiotherapy Accelerator

The aim of this work was to evaluate and compare the performance of comparatively new synthetic PTW 60019 microDiamond with PTW 60017 Diode E detector in measuring the output factors (OF) of IntraOperative Radiation Therapy (IORT) electron beams. For a given electron beam, OFs are defined as the ratio of the dose for any applicator size at the depth of maximum to that for a reference applicator. IORT is an innovative treatment technique that delivers a large single fraction of radiation dose to the tumor bed during surgery. The electron beams considered in this study were generated by the mobile NOVAC7 system. This device produces high-dose-per-pulse electron beams with four different energies in the range from 3 MeV to 9 MeV. We performed measurements for two higher energies, namely 7MeV and 9 MeV. The beam collimation was performed through Perspex (PMMA) cylindrical applicators with different diameters. The accurate dose delivery of IORT tightly depends on the precision of measured dose by reference applicator and the output factors of clinical applicators. The output factors were measured using microDiamond and Diode E detectors. The microDiamond detector performance was compared with a Diode E detector. Determined output factors of two detectors were in good agreement. The maximum deviations of output factors for microDiamond were found 2.74%, and 2.17% for 7 MeV and 9 MeV, respectively with respect to the PTW Diode E. The microDiamond detector was shown to exhibit excellent properties for output factor measurements and could be considered as a suitable tool for electron beam dosimetry.

Low-temperature quantum transport in CVD-grown single crystal graphene

Chemical vapor deposition （CVD） is typically used for large-scale graphene synthesis for practical applications. However, the inferior electronic properties of CVD graphene are one of the key problems to be solved. Therefore, we present a detailed study on the electronic properties of high-quality single-crystal monolayer graphene. The graphene is grown via CVD on copper, by using a cold-wall reactor, and then transferred to Si/SiO2. Our low-temperature magneto-transport data demonstrate that the characteristics of the single-crystal CVD graphene samples are superior to those of polycrystalline graphene and have a quality which is comparable to that of exfoliated graphene on Si/SiO2. The Dirac point in our best samples occurs at back-gate voltages lower than 10 V, and a maximum mobility of 11,000 cm2/（V.s） is attained. More than 12 flat and discernible half-integer quantum Hall plateaus occur under a high magnetic field on both the electron and hole sides of the Dirac point. At a low magnetic field, the magnetoresistance exhibits a weak localization peak. Using the theory of McCann et al., we obtain inelastic scattering lengths of 〉1 um, even at the charge neutrality point of the samples.
