Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disorder affecting the central nervous system (CnS) through demyelination and neurodegeneration. Several lines of evidence support a role for oxidative and nitrative stress (OS and nS) in pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis. The mechanism of influence of OS and nS on blood-brainbarrier (BBB) has critical importance for evaluating antioxidant therapies. As far as we know, markers of oxidative and nitrative stress in MS patients have been investigated independently for their relationship with the state of the blood-brain-barrier. Blood plasma samples of 58 patients with relapse-remitting MS (RRMS) with normal (Group A, n = 48, 36.2 ± 10.5 years) and damaged BBB (Group B, n = 10, 38.2 ± 11.2 years) and of 44 healthy controls (39.2 ± 14.9 years) were analyzed. TAS (total antioxidant plasma status), lipoperoxides, protein carbonyls, 3-nitrotyrosine and uric acid were evaluated in each group. Our results confirmed decreased TAS (Group A: 1.35 ± 0.55 mmol/l, P e level of lipoperoxidation positively correlated with the state of BBB (P of protein’s carbonyls (A: 0.48 ± 0.11 nmol/mg protein, P nmol/l, P ed damage to plasma proteins, what was confirmed by their positive mutual correlation (P The level of uric acid was physiological and correlated negatively with protein’s carbonyls (P 0.05) while there was no significant relationship with 3-nitotyrosine. The results suggest the role of this antioxidant in the protection of the proteins against OS what was confirmed by its positive correlation with TAS

To investigate presence and extent of eosinophilic cholangitis (EC) as well as IgG4-related disease in patients with indeterminate biliary stricture (IBS).METHODSAll patients with diagnosis of sclerosing cholangitis (SC) and histopathological samples such as biopsies or surgical specimens at University Hospital Frankfurt from 2005-2015 were included. Histopathological diagnoses as well as further clinical course were reviewed. Tissue samples of patients without definite diagnosis after complete diagnostic work-up were reviewed regarding presence of eosinophilic infiltration and IgG4 positive plasma cells. Eosinophilic infiltration was as well assessed in a control group of liver transplant donors and patients with primary sclerosing *** hundred and thirty-five patients with SC were included. In 10/135 (13.5%) patients, no potential cause of IBS could be identified after complete diagnostic work-up and further clinical course. After histopathological review, a post-hoc diagnosis of EC was established in three patients resulting in a prevalence of 2.2% (3/135) of all patients with SC as well as 30% (3/10) of patients, where no cause of IBS was identified. 2/3 patients with post-hoc diagnosis of EC underwent surgical resection with suspicion for malignancy. Diagnosis of IgG4-related cholangitis was observed in 7/135 patients (5.1%), whereas 3 cases were discovered in post-hoc analysis. 6/7 cases with IgG4-related cholangitis (85.7%) presented with eosinophilic infiltration in addition to IgG4 positive plasma cells. There was no patient with eosinophilic infiltration in the control group of liver transplant donors (n = 27) and patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis (n = 14).COnCLUSIOnEC is an underdiagnosed benign etiology of SC and IBS, which has to be considered in differential diagnosis of IBS.

Although many studies have evaluated the efficacy of various agents, e.g. nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, octreotide,antioxidants, administered via various dosages, routes(oral, intrarectal or parenteral), and schedules(before or after the procedure), the results have been *** To evaluate efficacy of three pharmacologic prophylactic methods for prevention of *** In this prospective, single-center randomized trial, patients who underwent firsttime ERCP for choledocholithiasis were randomly assigned to three groups. The first group received 600 mg n-acetylcysteine 15 min prior to ERCP, and perrectum administration of 50 mg indomethacin both prior to and after completion of the ERCP. The second group was administered only the 50 mg indomethacin per-rectum both prior to and after the ERCP. The third group was administeredper-rectum 100 mg indomethacin only after the ERCP, representing the control group given the guideline-recommended regimen. The primary end-point was PEP *** Among the total 211 patients evaluated during the study, 186 fulfilled the inclusion criteria and completed the protocol. The percentages of patients who developed PEP in each of the three groups were not significantly different(χ2 =2.793, P = 0.247). Among the acute PEP cases, for all groups, 14 patients developed mild pancreatitis(77.77%) and 4 moderate. no severe cases of PEP occurred, and in all PEP cases the resolution was favorable. no adverse events related to the medications(digestive hemorrhage, rectal irritation, or allergies)*** The efficacies of split-dose indomethacin and combined administration(nacetylcysteine with indomethacin) for preventing PEP were similar to that of the standard regimen.

受到草地生物多样性实验研究植物多样性对初级生产力影响的启发,2018年建立的“作物多样性实验”旨在测试自然生态系统生物多样性的效应是否也适用于一年生作物系统,以及作物混合种植(简称作物混作)是否也能实现超产,即作物混作的产量超过作物单作的最高产量。实验的前3年结果表明,作物混作不仅增加了产量,而且通常也比最高产的作物单作产量高。作物多样性效应在环境胁迫下更显著,且通常是在与豆科作物混作时实现超产。然而,我们也观察到在有利条件下和没有豆科植物的混作中,也有超产现象。对产量效应的潜在机制研究发现,作物物种之间存在直接的互补关系和通过其他生物的间接效应。前者包括氮吸收中的化学、空间和时间互补性,水分吸收的根分布互补性,以及光利用的空间和时间互补性。在间接机制中,除了“作物多样性实验”中未研究但在其他研究得到证明的对害虫和疾病的互补抑制之外,我们还证明作物混作中对杂草的互补抑制和植物生长促进微生物的丰度更高。因此,“作物多样性实验”不仅支持了生物多样性实验所证明的生态过程,也支持了作物系统中的生物多样性的生态系统功能假设,而且作物物种多样化的作物系统为可持续生产食物提供了有价值工具。
