The aim of the present paper is to characterize bioinspired chitosan （Cs）＋ hydroxyapatite （HA） coatings with various components ratio on a zirconium alloy with titanium. The coatings were characterized by FT-IR, sEM, hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance, adherence, roughness, electrochemical stability and in vitro cell response. Electrochemical tests, including potentio- dynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, were performed in normal saline physiological solution. Cell viability of MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts, lactate dehydrogenase, nitric oxide, and Reactive Oxygen species （ROs） levels, as well as actin cytoskeleton morphology, were evaluated as biological in vitro tests. The results on in vitro cell response indicated good cell membrane integrity and viability for all samples, but an increased cell number, a decreased ROs level and a better cytoskeleton organization were noticed for the sample with a higher Cs content. The coating with highest Cs concen- tration indicated the best performance based on the experimental data. The highest hydrophilic character, highest resistance to corrosion and best biocompatibility as well recommend this coating for bioapplications in tissue engineering.

Although it is a relatively new field of study, the animal cognition literature is quite extensive and difficult to synthesize. This paper explores the contributions a comprehensive, computational, cognitive model can make toward organizing and assimilating this literature, as well as toward identifying important concepts and their interrelations. Using the LIDA model as an example, a framework is described within which to integrate the diverse research in animal cognition. such a framework can provide both an ontology of concepts and their relations, and a working model of an animal＇s cognitive processes that can compliment active empirical research. In addition to helping to account for a broad range of cognitive processes, such a model can help to comparatively assess the cognitive capabilities of different animal species. After deriving an ontology for animal cognition from the LIDA model, we apply it to develop the beginnings of a database that maps the cognitive facilities of a variety of animal species. We conclude by discussing future avenues of research, particularly the use of computational models of animal cognition as valuable tools for hypotheses generation and testing [Current Zoology 57 （4）： 499-513, 2011].

This paper presents the integration of seismic refraction and multichannel analysis of surface wave(MAsW)measurements to investigate the anisotropy of P-and s-wave ***,synthetic forward modelling is presented as a tool for supporting seismic anisotropy *** geophysical measurements of cracks allowed to recognise the fracturing of a granite rock mass in a Paleozoic granite quarry(strzegom,Poland)and a dolomite rock mass in a Triassic dolomite quarry(Podlesna,Poland).Application of the forward modelling supports the interpretation of seismic methods,simplifying data processing and verifying the final results based on data from difficult seismic *** a result of direct measurements,two crack systems were determined in granite rock mass:nnE-ssW and nnW-ssE,and two in dolomite rock mass:nnE-ssW and ***,the numerical results show the relationship between the highest values of P-and s-wave velocities and separated crack systems which allowed an unequivocal interpretation of the direction of stress,resulting in the *** obtained information is promising to be helpful in mining exploration for optimising excavation works.

As-cast and heat-treated 400-18 ductile iron （DI） grade was obtained in different foundry conditions, as metallic charge, Mg-treatment alloy and inoculation. It was found that the Pearlitic Influence Factor （P） and Anti- nodulizing Complex Factor （K1） have an important influence on property of DI, depending on the Mn and P level, the metallurgical quality of iron melt, rare earth （RE） and inoculation. It was also found that the influence of Mn is depended on the phosphorus and residual elements level in ductile iron. Less than 0.03%P and 0.2%Mn and P〈2.0 are the basic conditions to obtain as-cast ferritic structure. At the same lower level of Mn and P, the increasing of residual elements （P〉2.0） determines presence of pearlite in as-cast structure, while ferrite structure is obtained after a short annealing heat treatment. Lower level of phosphorus （P〈0.025%） and residual elements （Px〈2.0） allow to use relative high Mn content （0.32%-0.38%）, in condition of ferritic structure, including in as-cast state. High P （0.04%- 0.045%） and Mn （0.25%-0.35%） content stabilized peadite, especially at lower level of residual elements （P 〈2.0）. Antinodulizing action of elements was counteracted up to K1=2.0 level, by RE included in Mg-treatment alloy, which are beneficial for K1〈1.2 and compulsory for K1〉1.2. si has a significant influence on the mechanical properties of heat treated ductile irons： an important decreasing of elongation level and a moderate increasing of yield and tensile strength and their ratio in 150-170 HB typical hardness field. A typical final chemical composition for as-cast 400-18 ductile iron could include 3.5%-3.7%C, 2.4%-2.5%si, max.0.18%Mn, max.0.025%P, max.0.01%s, 0.04%-0.05%Mg for Px〈1.5 and K1〈1.1. High purity pig iron, RE-bearing FesiMg and powerful inoculant are also recommended.
