For achieving Energy-Efficiency in wireless sensor networks(WSNs),different schemes have been proposed which focuses only on reducing the energy consumption.A shortest path determines for the Base Station(BS),but fault tolerance and energy balancing gives equal importance for improving the network *** saving energy in WSNs,clustering is considered as one of the effective methods for Wireless Sensor *** of the excessive overload,more energy consumed by cluster heads(CHs)in a cluster based WSN to receive and aggregate the information from member sensor nodes and it leads to *** increasing the WSNs’lifetime,the CHs selection has played a key role in energy consumption for sensor *** Energy Efficient Unequal Fault Tolerant Clustering Approach(EEUFTC)is proposed for reducing the energy utilization through the intelligent methods like Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO).In this approach,an optimal Master Cluster Head(MCH)-Master data Aggregator(MDA),selection method is proposed which uses the fitness values and they evaluate based on the PSO for two optimal nodes in each cluster to act as Master Data Aggregator(MDA),and Master Cluster *** data from the cluster members collected by the chosen MCH exclusively and the MDA is used for collected data reception from MCH transmits to the ***,the MCH overhead *** the heavy communication of data,overhead controls using the scheduling of Energy-Efficient Time Division Multiple Access(EE-TDMA).To describe the proposed method superiority based on various performance metrics,simulation and results are compared to the existing methods.

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries are one of the most promising modern-day energy supply systems because of their high theoretical energy density and low ***,the development of high-energy density Li-S batteries with high loading of flammable sulfur faces the challenges of electrochemical performance degradation owing to the shuttle effect and safety issues related to fire or explosion *** this work,we report a three-dimensional(3D)conductive nitrogen-doped carbon foam supported electrostatic self-assembled MXene-ammonium polyphosphate(NCF-MXene-APP)layer as a heat-resistant,thermally-insulated,flame-retardant,and freestanding host for Li-S batteries with a facile and costeffective synthesis ***,through the use of NCF-MXene-APP hosts that strongly anchor polysulfides,the Li-S batteries demonstrate outstanding electrochemical properties,including a high initial discharge capacity of 1191.6 mA h g^(-1),excellent rate capacity of 755.0 mA h g^(-1)at 1 C,and long-term cycling stability with an extremely low-capacity decay rate of 0.12%per cycle at 2 *** importantly,these batteries can continue to operate reliably under high temperature or flame attack ***,this study provides valuable insights into the design of safe high-performance Li-S batteries.

Spectrum of complications associated with Plasmodium vivax infection in a tertiary hospital in South-Western India

Objective:To determine the range and incidence of complications associated with Plasmodium vivax[***) ***:A retrospective analysis was performed of all patients of *** malaria admitted in kasturba Medical *** between January and December,*** with mixed malarial infection were excluded by appropriate tests. Clinical presentation and laboratory parameters were ***:Medical records of 213 individuals who satisfied the inclusion criteria were *** was seen in 65 (30.5%),leucopenia in 38(17.8%]and thrombocytopenia in 184(86.4%l *** and alanine aminotransferases were elevated in 86(40.4%).and 89(41.9%) patients respectively. Hypoalbuminemia was observed in 157(73.6%) *** serum creatinine was noted in in 59(27.5%) *** kinase was elevated in 30 nut of 59 patients(50.8%).Overall.107 (50.2%) patients fulfilled WHO criteria for sever=e *** of the patients succumbed to the ***:*** malaria is a potentially severe disease,and the term ’ benign" tertian malaria is a *** significant morbidity,with timely and appropriate treatment *** malaria has an excellent outcome.

Brucellosis and tuberculosis:Clinical overlap and pitfalls

Objective:To identify characteristic features of tuberculosis in patients with culture proven ***:A retrospective analysis was performed on patients diagnosed with culture proven brucellosis between January and December 2011,based on review of their medical *** with demonstrable co-infection with tuberculosis were *** features,laboratory parameters and tissue histopathology reports where available were ***:Thirty-two patients with brucellosis were included in the ***-one(65.63%)patients had chronic fever,thirteen(40.63%)had a productive cough,while significant weight loss,evening rise of temperature and night sweats were reported by eight(25.00%),eleven(34.38%)and five(15.63%)patients ***(28.13%)patients had at least three of these ***,hepatomegaly and splenomegaly were noted on examination in seven(21.88%),fifteen(46.88%)and twelve(37.50%)patients ***(25.00%)patients had hepatosplenomegaly,of these only two had associated significant *** examination was normal in all *** ESR greater than 50 mm/hr was seen in eight(25.00%),it was greater than 100 mm/hr in five(15.63%)*** was seen in eight(25.00%)*** marrow biopsy showed non-caseating granulomas in three(9.38%)cases,lymph node biopsy showed granulomas in one ***,three(9.38%)patients had known risk factors for tuberculosis,while six(18.75%)had risk factors for ***:There is a clear overlap between brucellosis and tuberculosis both in terms of clinical presentation and laboratory *** is essential to c-arefully rule out tuberculosis in all cases of suspected or proven brucellosis before initiating antimicrobial therapy,in order to forestall development of drug-resistant tuberculosis.

HIV-tuberculosis co-infection in an Indian scenario:The role of associated evidence of immunosuppression

Objective:To determine the relationship between tuberculosis and the degree of immunosuppression as determined by CD4 *** impact of immunosuppression on the severity of tuberculosis was also ***:A retrospective analysis was performed in patients newly diagnosed with HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy(ART)-naive patients with known HIV *** patients were diagnosed with active tuberculosis between January 2008 and December 2010,based on review of their medical *** on chemoprophylaxis for opportunistic infection were *** and severity of tuberculosis,associated stigmata of immunosuppression,and CD4 counts were ***:Of 140 patients satisfying the inclusion criteria.52 had mild tuberculosis with no other evidence of immunosuppression,52 had tuberculosis of variable severity with associated evidence of immunosuppression,and 36 had severe tuberculosis with no other evidence of *** CD4 count was highest in the first group[<109.2±99.9) cells/μL]and least in the second group[(58.4±39.8) cells/μL], and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.004).No statistical difference was observed in the CD4 count between those with mild tuberculosis and those with severe tuberculosis. Conclusions:In developing countries with a high prevalence of tuberculosis in the general population,the possibility of incidental tuberculosis in patients with HIV should always be ***4 count does not appear to influence the severity of *** presence of concomitant evidence of immunosuppression in the form of category B and C conditions is indicative of underlying immunosuppression and associated with a significantly lower CD4 count.

A study on zinc speciation of Tungabhadra River sediments, Kurnool,south India:A tool in metal pollution monitoring

The Tungabhadra River is one of the sacred rivers in south India. Industrial and mining operations on its banks generate enormous amounts of effluent that have led to substantial metal and nutrient contamination of the aquatic system. In the present investigation an attempt has been made to assess variation in the physico-chemical characteristics and speciation of zinc in the water and sediment of the Tungabhadra River. Most of the metal ions in the collected samples were in high concentrations compared to the applicable standards. The Individual Contamination Factor(ICF) of Zn was found to be more at Site-B compared to sites A and C. Zinc-bearing particles were characterized by the different morphologies measuring from large colloidal to small particles which were associated with biological structures or may be present in amorphous nature which were observed by Transition electron microscopy(TEM) with X-EDS(Energy dispersive spectrometry). In conclusion, the level of Zn contamination in the Tungabhadra River is increasing at an alarming rate due to industrial activities.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a hepatic mani-festation of metabolic syndrome. The spread of obesity worldwide in pandemic proportions has led to a rapid rise of NAFLD in developed and developing countries alike. There are no approved pharmacological agents to treat steatohepatitis or advanced fibrosis but obeticholic acid recently has shown some promise in phase III trial. Currently, NAFLD is the number one etiology for simultaneous liver and kidney trans-plantation in the USA, second most common indication for liver transplantation (LT) and projected to become number one very soon. LT for NAFLD poses unique challenges, as these patients are generally older, obese and more likely to have a number of metabolic risk factors. Bariatric surgery is an option and can be considered if a structured weight loss program does not achieve the sustained weight loss goal. Comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment and aggres-sive management of comorbid conditions are crucial in the LT evaluation process to improve post-transplant survival. Re-current nonalcoholic steatohepatitis after LT is not uncom-mon, and thus warrants primary and secondary prevention strategies through a multidisciplinary approach. Prevalence of NAFLD in a donor population is a unique and growing concern that limits the access to quality liver grafts.
