In vitro screening of probiotic properties of Lactobacillus plantarum isolated from fermented milk product

Objectives:The screening of traditional fermented products is essential for the assessment of safety,security,and further development of functional foods for the well-being of human *** aim of the present study was to isolate and identify bacteria from fermented raw milk samples that exhibit health benefits upon ***:In order to confirm the isolates as probiotics,several in vitro assays were conducted to assess the probiotic properties of isolated *** initial screening includes tolerance to acid,bile,pancreatin,and *** cell surface properties demonstrate their interaction with mucosal epithelium,which includes hydrophobicity and auto-aggregation *** assessment was done by performing haemolytic test and antibiotic susceptibility *** antagonistic activity of probiotic strain was further evaluated against some pathogenic ***:Lactobacillus plantarum(***)isolated from fermented raw milk was preliminarily identified by biochemical tests and further confirmed using 16S rRNA *** isolate designated as *** strain GCC_19M1 demonstrated significant tolerance to low pH,0.3%bile,0.5%pancreatin,and 5%*** the presence of simulated gastric juice(at pH 3),the isolate exhibited a survival rate of 93.48-96.97%.Furthermore,the development of ecological niches in the human gut and their successful accumulation have been revealed by auto-aggregation and hydrophobicity *** of haemolytic activity ensures the non-virulent nature of the *** plantarum strain GCC_19M1 showed susceptibility towards gentamicin,tetracycline,kanamycin,meropenem,and ceftriaxone and exhibited an antagonistic effect on pathogenic ***:The obtained results conveyed that *** strain GCC_19M1 has strong probiotic potential,and its presence in the fermented raw milk products may serve as a potent functional probiotic food.

Canopy openings have a vital role in forest structure,regeneration,and plant *** this study,we investigated and compared the species composition and densities of seedlings and saplings between canopy gaps(openings)and forest understories(in dense canopies)in a sub-tropical forest of *** objectively identified 42 canopy openings between transect lines and 42 main plots in dense canopies,sampled for regeneration and young tree *** the regeneration study,we placed 2 m×2 m four subplots in each canopy opening and the main plot of dense canopy,thus making a total of 336 *** species diversity of seedlings,saplings,and trees were significantly(P≤0.05)higher in the dense canopy than in the canopy ***,most dominant and frequent regenerating species such as Diospyros pilosula,Garcinia cowa,Brownlowia elata,and Lithocarpus polystachya were common in both dense canopy and openings,the canopy openings had the highest Importance Value Index,suggesting the significance of gap dynamics in the dominance of native floral *** dense canopy played an important role in forest compositions because 12 regenerating species,including Stereospermum suaveolens and Diospyros montana,were not found in the canopy openings,implying that rain forests must maintain a high canopy cover for regeneration.

Propagation of a strong cylindrical shock wave in a rotational axisymmetric dusty gas with exponentially varying density

Non-similarity solutions are obtained for one-dimensional isothermal and adiabatic flow behind strong cylindrical shock wave propagation in a rotational ax-isymmetric dusty gas, which has a variable azimuthal and axial fluid velocity. The dusty gas is assumed to be a mixture of small solid particles and perfect gas. The equi-librium flow conditions are assumed to be maintained, and the density of the mixture is assumed to be varying and obeying an exponential law. The fluid velocities in the ambient medium are assumed to obey exponential laws. The shock wave moves with variable velocity. The effects of variation of the mass concentration of solid particles in the mixture, and the ratio of the density of solid particles to the initial density of the gas on the flow variables in the region behind the shock are investigated at given times. Also, a comparison between the solutions in the cases of isothermal and adia-batic flows is made.

Efficient contraflow algorithms for quickest evacuation planning

The optimization models and algorithms with their implementations on flow over time problems have been an emerging field of research because of largely increasing human-created and natural disasters *** an optimal use of transportation network to shift affected people and normalize the disastrous situation as quickly and efficiently as possible,contraflow configuration is one of the highly applicable operations research(OR)*** increases the outbound road capacities by reversing the direction of arcs towards the safe destinations that not only minimize the congestion and increase the flow but also decrease the evacuation time *** this paper,we sketch the state of quickest flow solutions and solve the quickest contraflow problem with constant transit times on arcs proving that the problem can be solved in strongly polynomial time O(nm^2(long n)~2)where n and m are number of nodes and number of arcs,respectively in the *** contraflow solution has the same computational time bound as that of the best min-cost flow ***,we also introduce the contraflow approach with load dependent transit times on arcs and present an efficient algorithm to solve the quickest contraflow problem *** the claim,our computational experiments on Kathmandu road network and on randomly generated instances perform very well matching the theoretical *** a sufficiently large number of evacuees,about double flow can be shifted with the same evacuation time and about half time is sufficient to push the given flow value with contraflow reconfiguration.

Development and experimental investigation of duplex turning process

The aim of the present study was to develop a novel turning process with the simultaneous application of two cutting tools in place of a single cutting tool during machining of rotating surfaces. This process is referred to as duplex turning, and is used to eliminate the need for a secondary final cut operation following the turning process. To achieve this, a secondary （auxiliary） tool post is mounted on the cross slide of the centre lathe machine after fabrication. The secondary tool post is used to hold a secondary cutting tool that penetrates the workpiece from opposite side of the primary cutting tool to perform the finish cut operation during turn machining of the cylin- drical workpiece. The performance of the developed process was tested on AISI 1040 alloy steel, using two single point cutting tools made of high speed steel. The effects of cutting velocity, feed rate, primary depth of cut and secondary depth of cut were analyzed and discussed with regard to average surface roughness, and were also compared with normal turning process. From the results, it was concluded that duplex turning process was capable of providing better surface finishes compared to those generated by normal turning. It was also found that higher cutting velocity yielded better surface finishes within the determined ranges of the selected parameters.

Investigating the Dominant Source for the Generation of Gravity Waves during Indian Summer Monsoon Using Ground-based Measurements

Over the tropics, convection, wind shear （i.e., vertical and horizontal shear of wind and/or geostrophic adjustment comprising spontaneous imbalance in jet streams） and topography are the major sources for the generation of gravity waves. During the summer monsoon season （June August） over the Indian subcontinent, convection and wind shear coexist. To determine the dominant source of gravity waves during monsoon season, an experiment was conducted using mesosphere-stratosphere-troposphere （MST） radar situated at Gadanki （13.5°N, 79.2°E）, a tropical observatory in the southern part of the Indian subcontinent. MST radar was operated continuously for 72 h to capture high-frequency gravity waves. During this time, a radiosonde was released every 6 h in addition to the regular launch （once daily to study low-frequency gravity waves） throughout the season. These two data sets were utilized effectively to characterize the jet stream and the associated gravity waves. Data available from collocated instruments along with satellite-based brightness temperature （TBB） data were utilized to characterize the convection in and around Gadanki. Despite the presence of two major sources of gravity wave generation （i.e., convection and wind shear） during the monsoon season, wind shear （both vertical shear and geostrophic adjustment） contributed the most to the generation of gravity waves on various scales.

Impedance Studies of La_2Mo_(2-x)Sn_xO(9-δ) Oxide Ion Conductors

A series of compounds La2Mo2-xSnxO9-6 （x=0-0.3） have been synthesized by solid-state reaction technique. Materials have been characterized by XRD, SEM, DSC and impedance study. In the temperature regime 520℃-590 ℃, the specimens with x〈0.05 have the conductivity higher than La2Mo2O9. Conductivity of Sn-doped compound decreases consistently with increasing Sn-doping, compared to the undoped compound both below and above phase transition, barring the specimens with x〈 0.05, where conductivity values remains almost same as that of undoped specimen in high temperature region. In the intermediate temperature regime （520℃-590℃）, the conductivity of doped compounds increases for x〈0.05 as compared to parent compound. Also, there is no indication of phase stabilization with Sn-doping in this compound even with the highest doping level, x=0.3. Electric modulus analysis suggests that thermally activated oxygen ion hopping mechanism is responsible for the conduction in Sn-doped compound.

Structural reliability analysis using a hybrid HDMR-ANN method

A new hybrid method is proposed to estimate the failure probability of a structure subject to random parameters. The high dimensional model representation(HDMR) combined with artificial neural network(ANN) is used to approximate implicit limit state functions in structural reliability analysis. HDMR facilitates the lower dimensional approximation of the original limit states function. For evaluating the failure probability, a first-order HDMR approximation is constructed by deploying sampling points along each random variable axis and hence obtaining the structural responses. To reduce the computational effort of the evaluation of limit state function, an ANN surrogate is trained based on the sampling points from HDMR. The component of the approximated function in HDMR can be regarded as the input of the ANN and the response of limit state function can be regarded as the target for training an ANN surrogate. This trained ANN surrogate is used to obtain structural outputs instead of directly calling the numerical model of a structure. After generating the ANN surrogate, Monte Carlo simulation(MCS) is performed to obtain the failure probability, based on the trained ANN surrogate. Three numerical examples are used to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.

Impact of Planetary Wave Reflection on Tropospheric Blocking over the Urals–Siberia Region in January 2008

Planetary wave reflection from the stratosphere played a significant role in changing the tropospheric circulation pattern over Eurasia in mid-January 2008. We studied the 2008 event and compared with composite analysis （winters of 2002/2003, 200412005, 200612007, 200712008, 201012011 and 2011/2012）, when the downward coupling was stronger, by employing time-lagged singular value decomposition analysis on the geopotential height field. In the Northern Hemisphere, the geopo- tential fields were decomposed into zonal mean and wave components to compare the relative covariance patterns. It was found that the wavenumber 1 （WN1） component was dominant compared with the wavenumber 2 （WN2） component and zonal mean process. For the WNI field, the covariance was much higher （lower） for the negative （positive） lag, with a prominent peak around ＋15 days when the leading stratosphere coupled strongly with the troposphere. It contributed to the downward coupling due to reflection, when the stratosphere exhibited a partially reflective background state. We also analyzed the evolution of the WNI anomaly and heat flux anomaly, both in the troposphere and stratosphere, during January- March 2008. The amplitude of the tropospheric WN 1 pattern reached a maximum and was consistent with a downward wave coupling event influenced by the stratospheric WN1 anomaly at 10 hPa. This was consistent with the reflection of the WN1 component over Eurasia, which triggered an anomalous blocking high in the Urals-Siberia region. We further clarified the impact of reflection on the tropospheric WNI field and hence the tropospheric circulation pattern by changing the propagation direction during and after the event.
