Axonal regeneration in the central nervous system is an energy-intensive *** contrast to mammals,adult zebrafish can functionally recover from neuronal *** raises the question of how zebrafish can cope with this high energy *** previously showed that in adult zebrafish,subjected to an optic nerve crush,an antagonistic axon-dendrite interplay exists wherein the retraction of retinal ganglion cell dendrites is a prerequisite for effective axonal *** postulate a‘dendrites for regeneration’paradigm that might be linked to intraneuronal mitochondrial reshuffling,as ganglion cells likely have insufficient resources to maintain dendrites and restore axons ***,we characterized both mitochondrial distribution and mitochondrial dynamics within the different ganglion cell compartments(dendrites,somas,and axons)during the regenerative *** nerve crush resulted in a reduction of mitochondria in the dendrites during dendritic retraction,whereafter enlarged mitochondria appeared in the optic nerve/tract during axonal *** dendritic regrowth in the retina,mitochondrial density inside the retinal dendrites returned to baseline ***,a transient increase in mitochondrial fission and biogenesis was observed in retinal ganglion cell somas after optic nerve *** together,these findings suggest that during optic nerve injury-induced regeneration,mitochondria shift from the dendrites to the axons and back again and that temporary changes in mitochondrial dynamics support axonal and dendritic regrowth after optic nerve crush.

Neuropathic pain-like symptoms and pre-surgery radiographic severity contribute to patient satisfaction 4.8 years post-total joint replacement

AIM To investigate a comprehensive range of factors that contribute to long-term patient satisfaction post-total joint replacement(TJR) in people who had undergone knee or hip replacement for *** Participants(n = 1151) were recruited from Nottinghamshire post-total hip or knee replacement. Questionnaire assessment included medication use, the pain-DETECT questionnaire(PDQ) to assess neuropathic pain-like symptoms(NP) and TJR satisfaction measured on average 4.8 years post-TJR. Individual factors were tested for an association with post-TJR satisfaction, before incorporating all factors into a full model. Data reduction was carried out using LASSO and receiveroperator characteristic(ROC) curve analysis was used to quantify the contribution of variables to post-TJR *** After data reduction, the best fitting model for post-TJR satisfaction included various measures of pain, history of revision surgery, smoking, pre-surgical X-ray severity, WOMAC function scores and various comorbidities. ROC analysis of this model gave AUC = 0.83(95%CI: 0.80-0.85). PDQ scores were found to capture much of the variation in post-TJR satisfaction outcomes: AUC = 0.79(0.75-0.82). Pre-surgical radiographic severity was associated with higher post-TJR satisfaction: OR_(satisfied) = 2.06(95%CI: 1.15-3.69), P = *** These results highlight the importance of pre-surgical radiographic severity, post-TJR function, analgesic medication use and NP in terms of post-TJR satisfaction. The PDQ appears to be a useful tool in capturing factors that contribute to post-TJR satisfaction.

To date there is no treatment able to stop or slow down the loss of dopaminergic neurons that characterizes Parkinson’s *** was recently observed in a rodent model of Alzheimer’s disease that the interaction between the α7 subtype of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor(α7-nAChR)and sigma-1 receptor(σ1-R)could exert neuroprotective effects through the modulation of neuroinflammation which is one of the key components of the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s *** this context,the aim of the present study was to assess the effects of the concomitant administration of N-(3R)-1-azabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-3-yl-furo[2,3-c]pyridine-5-carboxamide(PHA)543613 as an α7-nAChR agonist and 2-(4-morpholinethyl)1-phenylcyclohexanecarboxylate(PRE)-084 as aσ1-R agonist in a well-characterized 6-hydroxydopamine rat model of Parkinson’s *** animals received either vehicle separately or the dual therapy PHA/PRE once a day until day 14 *** no effect was noticed in the amphetamine-induced rotation test,our data has shown that the PHA/PRE treatment induced partial protection of the dopaminergic neurons(15-20%),assessed by the dopamine transporter density in the striatum and immunoreactive tyrosine hydroxylase in the substantia ***,this dual therapy reduced the degree of glial activation consecutive to the 6-hydroxydopamine lesion,i.e,the 18 kDa translocation protein density and glial fibrillary acidic protein staining in the striatum,and the CD11b and glial fibrillary acidic protein staining in the substantia ***,this study reports for the first time that concomitant activation of α7-nAChR andσ1-R can provide a partial recovery of the nigro-striatal dopaminergic neurons through the modulation of microglial *** study was approved by the Regional Ethics Committee(CEEA Val de Loire n°19)validated this protocol(Authorization N°00434.02)on May 15,2014.

*** In July 2018,the Antarctic community came together to meet at the 13th Workshop on Antarctic Meteorology and Climate(WAMC)in Madison,Wisconsin,USA(Fig.1);and in the following year in June 2019,the 14th WAMC was held in Charleston,South Carolina,USA(Fig.2).With a growing history,the WAMC addresses the topics of Antarctic meteorology and climate(Kameda et al.,2008;Colwell et al.,2016;Lazzara et al.,2018)as well as weather-related issues of scientific and operational *** workshops bring together researchers,operational forecasters,numerical modelers,observational specialists,and *** themes of both workshops included Antarctic meteorological observations,Antarctic atmospheric numerical modeling,Antarctic meteorological and climate research,and Antarctic weather forecasting and operational *** 2018 and 2019 WAMC were both followed by a one-day focus on the Year of Polar Prediction-Southern Hemisphere(YOPP-SH),when preparations and follow-up discussions were made with regard to the YOPP Special Observing Period from 16 November 2018 to 15 February 2019.

Why Is Case Management Effective? A Realist Evaluation of Case Management for Frail, Community-Dwelling Older People: Lessons Learned from Belgium

Despite many attempts to evaluate the effectiveness of case management for frail older people, systematic reviews including experimental designs show inconsistent results. Starting from the view that case management is a complex intervention occurring in multilayered realities, we conducted a realist evaluation of case management in Belgium, where this type of intervention is new. Realist approaches are particularly well suited to evaluate complex interventions as they seek to investigate iteratively the literature and empirical data to uncover mid-range theories underpinning the intervention under study. As such, realist evaluations are works in progress which provide tools to describe how, why and for whom an intervention is supposed to work. In this paper, we describe two mid-range theories that can explain why case management can help frail older people to remain at home, through the lens of capacity and social support.

AIM: To determine the distribution of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotypes in Benin, and to clarify the virological characteristics of the dominant ***: Among 500 blood donors in Benin, 21 HBsAg-positive donors were enrolled in the study. HBV genotypes were determined by enzyme immunoassay and restriction fragment length polymorphism. Complete genome sequences were determined by PCR and direct ***: HBV genotype E (HBV/E) was detected in 20/21 (95.2%), and HBV/A in 1/21 (4.8%). From the age-specific prevalence of HBeAg to anti-HBe seroconversion (sc) in 19 HBV/E subjects, sc was estimated to occur frequently in late teens in HBV/*** comparison of four complete HBV/E genomes from HBeAg-positive subjects in this study and five HBV/E sequences recruited from the database revealed that HBV/E was distributed throughout West Africa with very low genetic divers ity (nucleotide homology 96.7-99.2%).Based on the sequences in the basic core promoter (BCP)to precore region of the nine HBV/E isolates compared to those of the other genotypes, a nucleotide substitution in the BCP, G1757A, was observed in HBV/***: HBV/E is predominant in the Republic of Benin, and sc is estimated to occur in late teens in HBV/E. The specific nucleotide substitution G1757A in BCP, which might influence the virological characteristics,is observed in HBV/E.

目的研究利用眼科用共焦显微镜鉴别诊断不同真菌性角膜炎的可行性。方法１８只新西兰白兔均分为３组，右眼分别接种白色念珠菌、烟曲霉菌和腐皮镰刀菌。接种时，去除角膜中央区５ｍｍ直径的上皮，滴新鲜培养的１×１０７个细胞／ｍｌ的白色念珠菌悬浮液，或涂上新鲜培养的烟曲霉菌或腐皮镰刀菌孢子，盖上软性接触镜，行睑裂缝合。在角膜感染后的第５，１０和１５天时，行共焦显微镜检查、真菌涂片检查和病理切片检查。结果感染早期（１～５天）炎症反应明显，中期（５～１０天）炎症逐渐减轻，１０～１５天角膜形成疤痕而自愈。烟曲霉菌和腐皮镰刀菌的病程较迁延，反应较白色念珠菌重。共焦显微镜下，感染的白色念珠菌早期主要呈现芽孢状，成高亮度结构，以后发展成具有大量分支的树枝状结构，再发展成链状结构。感染１０天后未见任何真菌结构。烟曲霉菌的菌丝在早期则呈较白色念珠菌菌丝粗但分支相对较少的明亮的树枝状结构。中期以后其分支减少并变长，它在角膜组织中保留的时间较白色念珠菌长。在感染早期，腐皮镰刀菌则表现为蚯蚓状结构，以后发展为分支很少的粗短树枝状结构，其分支在３种真菌中最少但直径最粗。真菌涂片和组织学检查的结果与共焦显微镜检查相符。结论

Endoscopic submucosal dissection vs laparoscopic colorectal resection for early colorectal epithelial neoplasia

AIM: To compare the short term outcome of endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) with that of laparoscopic colorectal resection(LC) for the treatment of early colorectal epithelial neoplasms that are not amenable to conventional endoscopic removal. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study. The clinical data of all consecutive patients who underwent ESD for endoscopically assessed benign lesions that were larger than 2 cm in diameter from 2009 to 2013 were collected. These patients were compared with a cohort of controls who underwent LC from 2005 to 2013. Lesions that were proven to be malignant by initial endoscopic biopsies were excluded. mid and lower rectal lesions were not included because total mesorectal excision, which bears a more complicated postoperative course, is not indicated for lesions without histological proof of malignancy. Both ESD and LC were performed by the same surgical unit with a standardized technique. The patients were managed according to a standard protocol, and they were closely monitored for complications after the procedures. All hospital records were reviewed, and the following data were compared between the ESD and LC groups: patient demographics, size and location of the lesions, procedure time, shortterm clinical outcomes and pathology results. RESULTS: From 2005 to 2013, 65 patients who underwent ESD and 55 patients who underwent LC were included in this study. The two groups were similar in terms of sex(P = 0.41) and American Society of Anesthesiologist class(P = 0.58), although patients in the ESD group were slightly older(68.6 ± 9.4 vs 64.6 ± 9.9, P = 0.03). ESD could be accomplished with a shorter procedure time(113 ± 66 min vs 153 ± 43 min, P < 0.01) for lesions of comparable size(3.0 ± 1.2 cm vs 3.4 ± 1.4 cm, P = 0.22) and location(colon/rectum:59/6 vs colon/rectum: 52/3, P = 0.43).
